Chapter 9 - King Asher

***Spoiler Alert: If you are reading The Gentle Maiden, this is a spoiler chapter.***

THIRD POV:

Asher watched as his daughter danced across the stage. She shined so brightly, her happiness in her element stoked warmth in his cold undead heart. Looking from the love of his life, Violet, and his daughter.

Odette took after him more than her mother, a control freak. Sword dancing was about control. She was the master, and her sword was the physical embodiment of her mastery. The entire dance, she kept her feet off the ground. Asher was thoroughly impressed with how much she had improved since their last sparring session.

Violet gazed at her daughter in awe. How effortlessly she moved. Every step was one of grace and elegance. Each move deliberate and intentional. The sword and her weaved together as one. She was so proud of her daughter's hard work and display of talent. Her heart fluttered like a butterfly and tears dripped from her eyes, it was beautiful to watch her.

After her performance Odette took her seat with the rest of her classmates. Asher was getting bored after, there were a few mediocre speakers came up, before finally, the dean congratulated the graduates, and they threw their caps up in the air shouting.

Everyone stood applauding and once the graduates started to exit so did the guests.

But as Asher was leaving something felt off, there was a scent of malice in the air. Asher looked around but he saw nothing out of the ordinary.

That was, until they went outside, and bright fireworks started blasting off.

Violet gazed upwards, watching as the vivid colors burst and changed in the night sky.

The crowd was so emersed in the view, that at first no one noticed the screams. But when one was close enough, everyone turned that way.

A woman was in the mouth of a beast.

A wolf that stood 5ft on all fours.

Blood dripped from its jaws. Screams erupted all around. It was a frenzy. Asher saw the carnage these wolves were doing and looked at his brothers and nodded. They were all in agreement. Kill the wolves. Leave no survivors.

Violet was raddled by the sight; she had a flash back of the dreadful night at gala during her kidnapping.

The dancing, the sudden sound of shattering windows and screams. Blood spraying her face blocking her vision. It was all so real, so familiar.

"My queen, listen." Asher yelled snapping Violet back into reality. "You need to find Odette and get you both to safety, you can control vampires, but not werewolves, and that makes you a target, love. But our daughter can use elemental magic and psychic magic, she can keep you safe, find a place to hide. Now go!" Ash shouted.

Violet nodded and took off back toward the stadium.

Asher watched making sure she got into the building safely before taking off at the first wolf he saw chasing a witch down.

This was something he enjoyed. Asher despised wolves, especially rogue ones who answer to no one.

Asher moved with incredible speed, his sharp claws and fangs extended, eyes glowing a crimson red, he launched himself on to the wolf taking him down. They grapple for a moment before he grabbed hold of the wolf by its mouth pulling hard, with a violent and loud crack, he ripped its jaw apart, making the wolf grow limp in Asher's hands. The light from the wolf's eyes drained out and glazed over, blood was pooling out of its mouth. He very much enjoyed watching the wolf takes its last breaths. After, he tossed the broken wolf on the ground.

He dashed toward another wolf, coming in low and steady, he shoved his hand through the wolfs chest ripping it's heart out.

The wolf howled a pitiful cry before hitting the ground hard. Blood leaking from its chest. Asher smiled seeing it wither and convulse without its heart. He squeezed it in his hands, the muscle turned into dark red putty.

He turned to another and ran full force toward it, he pretends to pass him only to reach around and grab the wolfs head as it went to snip at him. Asher yank it forward, springing on top of it and he hisses as he rips the head clean off its body. Chucking it at a wolf across from him, knocking it over. Oliver jumped on top of it, stabbing his claws through its neck. The wolf gurgled on its own blood, red seeped into its fur. They looked at each other exchanging twisted and sick grin.

They were having fun, he just hoped Violet could safely get to their daughter.

Wolf after wolf they destroyed. The attackers' numbers drastically decreased. Between all the Vampires, magic users, and other wolves not in on the attack, they were able to put in end to the bloodbath.

The few remaining started to retreat. Asher would be damned if he let a single one of those bastard's escape.

Except suddenly he heard a roaring scream coming from the stadium, the hair on the back of his neck stood and his heart sank into his chest.

That was his Violet screaming. Anxiety crashed into him. Asher immediately turned away from his pursuit of the survivors. Dodging and jumping over the dead bodies of wolves and guests, the scent of rusty iron clung to the air, it was the disgusting smell of wolves, filling his nose causing him to gag.

A reminder of the day he got Violet back. Having lost her to those monstrous abominations, it was one of the worst experiences of his life. The thought of losing Violet again put Asher in crazed state, he zeroed in on where he heard her voice coming from.

His heart was thundering as he booked it toward the location of Violet's scream. Wolf blood covered every inch of the front of his body, clinging to him. He felt dirty and disgusting. Their dirty blood drenched and ruined such a nice suit.

When he finally arrived out back at the door. He saw his beautiful queen standing completely drenched in blood. A horrified expression stained her face.

His breath hitched seeing his queen in this bloodied state. His eyes widened and scanned her body over, looking for any sign of injuries. He hoped that blood wasn't hers.

Just as he was about to ask, Violet spoke quietly in flat distant voice "They took her."

"Who, Violet? Who did they take? what happened? are you okay?" Asher asked urgently.

Violet's eyes widened and then she looked at Asher "They took her, Asher!"

She looked down at her hands that were stained with red blood and shook violently. "I killed him. I killed him."

"Violet, they took Odette?" Asher's voice was shaky as his cold blood turned to ice.

In that moment something snapped in Violet. Her organs began twisting inside her, throwing her chin up a roar that was deep and rugged ripped from deep within her chest.

She dropped her head suddenly and looked at Asher and her eyes glowed a vibrant magenta "I'm going to kill them," Her voice echoed in her chest like two of her were speaking and her head twitched to the side, "I'm going to kill them all, Asher."

Asher has never been scared of Violet before, she was always so calm and collected, but just now he felt fear in his heart. Looking at his once kind, gentle and forgiving wife, but now seeing this bloodthirsty and aggressive woman in front of him. Her aura went from feeling uplifting and light, to now it was dangerous and murderous. He's never seen what malice looked like in Violet, but he did now.

He was conflicted; he wasn't sure if he wanted to fuck her or if he should be extremely concerned.

Violet felt the shift inside herself, she felt more powerful than before, like she gained a new kind of strength and speed. Her teeth felt sharper, her body felt harder, but somehow also lighter. Her nails grew into much longer claws. She felt invincible.

Her heart ached relentlessly, she could feel nothing but pain, it consumed her entirely. Her raw untamed rage was fueling an energy inside she never knew she was capable of. Violet couldn't process anything other than the pain she felt inside. She had this insatiable appetite for blood and couldn't control it.

She was feeling something entirely new. Something she didn't even know was possible for her, even after everything she's been through. It scared her a little, but what really scared her… was how much she liked it. This feeling of fury and hunger for destruction. She enjoyed it.

"We'll find her Violet." Asher stated firmly.

Violet just stared at Asher with a distant look in her eyes before she quickly crooked her head to the side. Her face gradually widened, stretching into a wicked and deranged grin, show casing her new set of teeth and then slowly she said "I know."
