Chapter 15 - I won't make it easy for you

ODETTE'S POV:

What the hell was that? Ugh. Wonder if my Jerry will find me here, having a little kitchen now means I can cook my own food and share with my little mouse friend.

I curl back up on my bed, pulling the covers over me and find sleep pretty easy.

The sunlight beating in, fresh in the morning woke me up bright and early. I check and the door unlocked.

I turn on the sink and wash my face and rinse my mouth, since I apparently don't have a toothbrush, before heading to explore the palace, maybe find the kitchen.

The halls were surprisingly quieter than I expected a werewolf pack palace to be. Walking passed Alpha King Ambrose's room; I could hear moaning from the other side of the door. Is he having sex this early in the morning? I felt a ping of jealousy hit my chest.

I shouldn't be jealous. He can screw whoever he wants for all I care. I don't why I'm so flustered.

Storming off I make a break for the stairs when I see Hector walking up.

"Good morning, Hector." I said greeting him first, putting on my fakest smile.

"Morning?" He questioned, raising an eyebrow at me.

"Would you have the time to accompany me to the kitchen I'm hungry. And a little nervous of going unsupervised. If I can be honest."

Hector chuckled lightly; "I was coming to get you for breakfast anyways. You'll be Ambrose personal servant, so after breakfast, you'll have to change into your, uh, uniform and report to Alpha King Ambrose's room."

"I seriously have to wear those dresses, if that's what you can even call them." I asked in disbelief.

"Yes, Ma'am." Hector answered.

Did he just use the ma'am word to me? I don't know if I should feel insulted or appreciate it.

"Call me Odette. No title and no formalities please. I'm a prisoner here so, I'm beneath even you." I said tilting my head.

"You're nothing like what I expected when I knew my king finally had you." Hector said.

"Yeah, I keep hearing that." I brushed off the comment, not really wanting to keep discussing everyone's low opinion of me.

"I'm glad your different. Your kind are responsible for so many orphans, I'm glad you aren't like other vampires I've met." Hector said causally.

Was it that easy to be cool with him?

"Thanks for just talking to me, like a person, ya know?" I mentioned.

"Same." He responded with a light manner.

Walking down the steps through massive doors and down a hallway and through another set of double doors and we arrive in the kitchen.

It was a massive kitchen with its own little round table surrounded by men and women eating breakfast.

Once I entered the kitchen everyone frowned going silent. Six people sat around a table staring at me. The first girl to say anything to me had soft brown hair and grey eyes. She had a sweet smile, and kind, approachable aura.

"Hi, new here? I'm Emalea, what's your name?" Asked Emalea the soft brown-haired girl.

"Why are you asking her name, you know it, everyone here knows it. The daughter of a monster." One girl with maroon hair said sharply.

I frowned. If it's not being compared to my mother, now it's my father. Great. Just great.

"That one is Tersea, she bites." Emalea joked.

"If your father wasn't a chief guard, I'd make your life hell Emalea, I can't stand you." Tersea aggressively.

"What did you have for breakfast? Carnation Instant Bitch? Or do you just wake up with your panties in a twist." I shot out before I could even think.

Everyone's mouth dropped before the red-haired man busted out in a hysterical laugh.

"God damn, Hector does she always have this much bite? Shit." The red-haired man said between laughs.

"This, this is just my bark. I bite a lot harder. Trying to find out." I snapped back.

"Scary. I like scary, names Ezra." The man said extending his hand for me to shake.

If I'm trying to play nice and actually make friends, I should shake it. He gives me such sleezy vibes. Definitely don't wanna be alone with him, the way his gaze landed on me, lusty and perverted.

I shake his hand back. "Names Odette, good to meet you Ezra, I'm a hostage here, but guess I'll volunteer to help out. Keep busy. Beats sitting in a plain room on my ass." I shrugged. It was half true.

The blue haired girl and Tersea both scoffed.

"Sure, you're serious. You probably came here to mock us." The blue haired girl said.

"You guys sit here and judge me thinking I'm judging you. And if I'm just bored? What because I'm a princess, boredom escapes me? If you don't want my help, fine I'll just go screw off somewhere." I refrained from the roll in the grass like a dog comment I wanted to use.

"I don't need help from a bloodsucker like you." Tersea spoke harshly her words laced with venom.

"I don't drink blood, idiot, I feed on energies. Wanna find out?" I licked my lips at her and took a step toward the table.

"Okay, that's enough. I don't need anyone fainting before lunch. Make room, she's sitting with me, I'm meant to watch her, orders of the Alpha King." Hector stepped forward putting an end to things before they could get worse. He saw what I did with that prisoner and the other guard with him.

They moved over some, and Hector grabbed a chair for the two of us and we sat down. I waited until Hector reached first for food and followed his lead. It was hard navigating breakfast with such a large group of people. I was trying desperately to keep my heart from beating too fast. I'm used to only eating with my mother in the morning, my father's almost always gone for work by then, he left early since he took over the music label and stepped into my grandfather's throne and became king.

This was all new to me and I don't really know how to act. This is so overwhelming and stressful. Am I sweating? Can they see me sweating? Oh, goddess, what if they see me sweating.

"So, Odette, do you need to eat food like we do, or is it just an enjoyable pass time like other vampires?" The girl Emalea asked nicely; I could tell she was trying to make conversation. I'll take the bait.

Okay here we go, show time.

"Yes and no. I won't starve to death, but I can become very weak and lose a lot of weight, I can still look like a shriveled-up skeleton with skin. I have different biology than other vampires. Maidens are built different to say the least." I answered back.

"Why are you being so open with us? What do you stand gain from this?" The blue haired girl asked.

"Entertainment, I've told you, I'm bored. It's boring sitting and doing nothing but stare out a window or at a wall. Cheese and rice, are you guys deaf? Or just deliberately ignoring that part?" I was getting annoyed with the same question asked six different ways.

Then the atmosphere just changed, and the a blonde girl spoke, she looked gentle and sweet "Excuse me, Odette, could you pass me the butter by you, Rose here took the last of the table butter that was over here."

I couldn't but smile, her accent was cute "Yeah absolutely. Here." I grabbed a hold of the white gravy bowl and passed it to her.

She smiled and said "Thank you." And proceeded to pour gravy on her biscuits.

I couldn't help but notice and had to ask "Are you from the south? That's a southern breakfast dish."

"Yeah! I moved here when I was smaller with my brother, he got a job here in the palace as a scholar, so we moved here now Hector's mom always makes sure there's some home dishes here for me." She answered happily.

"I loved southern foods, the bakeries have so much soul in them." I shared. Keep making myself look like a person. The humans have said before, the dog is good to good people.

"Yeah, we have some real good food where I'm from." She said.

"Can I ask where you're from?"

"Oh, excuse my manners, I'm Jenna. My brother is Jacob he works in the library and study halls." She introduced herself finally.

So, it's Emalea, Tersea, Rosie, and Jenna. Only one girl left.

"There's a library here?" I asked excitedly. I have one back home, but it's not as big as a real one. It's just a room full of books.

"Yeah! I don't spend much time there unless I'm with my brother." She answered.

"Don't you have things to do, Jenna?" the blue haired girl jumped in, clearly displeased with our conversing. Her scowl was wholly unnecessary.

"Oh, speaking of, Odette, would you like to accompany me to get the sheets from the hanging line out back? There's quite a few." Emalea asked.

"Yeah, I can do that. When do we leave?" I asked.

"As soon as you're done eating." She answered.

I watched as Tersea just rolled her eyes at me. Can't win 'em all I suppose.
