Chapter 8 - No one is coming to save you

ODETTE'S POV:

I had been sitting in this dark cell for who knows how long. With no window, I can't even tell what time of day it is. It was disorienting. I was hungry and thirsty and tired. I missed the comforts of home. I missed her parents; I even missed my mom's stupid mean cat Midna. Most of all I missed Kal.

The door to the dungeon room creaked as it opened, alerting me to an intruder.

"What do you want?" I asked sharply.

"Is that anyway to talk to your better?"

Raven… I knew that taunting voice anywhere.

"Come to rub it in my face that you helped kidnap me? You know when my father gets a hold of you're toast right? My father will rip you in half." I sneered.

"Ha! You think I'm scared of a powerless little vampire like you? You've got to be kidding me. You're as powerless as a human you aren't a threat to anyone, let alone me." Raven mocked my current circumstances.

"No one is coming to save you." She sneered.

"Yet, even despite this dusty cell you have me in, or this collar around my neck that stops me from using my power, I'm still a princess, I'm a psychic vampire, a rarity. Nothing you or that coward you came with can say or do that will change the fact the blood that runs in my veins is pure and you're just dirty dog trash." I spit out.

I'd be damned if I let this second-class bitch talk down to me, "When I get out of her, which I will. I'm going to destroy you."

"Oh, pretty pet, that's if you survive long enough to see daylight again. I'll be counting the days until then here's a little something to remember me by." Raven said pulling out her pocket was a small device with a knob.

Once she cranked the knob, pain erupted from my neck. Electrical shocks pulsed through my entire body. Agony was the only feeling my body could process, the feeling it had any room for. I screamed in pain. My cries echoed through the whole tower. I crumbled and convulsed as Raven stood watching in delight as I squirmed in pain. My limbs contorted into wild positions. My bones twisted and bent. I couldn't stop screaming long enough to breathe, my vision blurred, and spots danced in her eyes. The shocking was relentless. I couldn't even speak to beg for Raven to stop.

"Raven, that's enough. Release her." A mans voice said, "Her screams could be heard through half the castle."

"Why do you care?" Raven snapped, still pressing down on the nozzle, keeping the current going through my body.

"Raven…" The mans voice got harsh quickly.

Raven huffed but released the knob and tossed the remote to the man. "Here Damon. Don't get too friendly with her, she is only a pet."

Raven's footsteps recede, telling me she's gone.

I laid on the floor whimpering and panting. I've never experienced such pain before. My head was spinning, I felt nauseous and achy. Everything from head to toe ached, my bones and brain felt fried. I just wanted to cry in my mother's arms, and all my pain taken away.

"I'm sorry about that. She… well… she didn't have parents to teach her any manners. She's also spiteful and mean, but it's mostly a front, she's actually not as bad as she pretends to be." The man said.

I rolled her eyes, I was struggling to process everything after having my brain fried, but what stuck out to me, was the fact he's the first, at least half decent, person I've encountered since I woke up here. What did he want? What was this good cop bad cop?

"What do you care?" Glanced over to see a tall strikingly handsome man. He had soft blue eyes and tussled blonde hair. A chiseled chin with a strong jaw line. He was built like a brick wall. A stark comparison to his buddy I met earlier, my guess was, he was the ringleader and this man in front of me was a close second.

"Apologies, speaking of manners, where are mine? I'm Beta Damon Slavinski, I brought some food and something to drink." He approached the cell slowly and cautiously.

I didn't sense any malice from him. But still, I didn't speak, just laid on the floor staring up at him silently, feeling him out.

"You haven't healed you? That's surprising." Beta Damon looked her over. "You know, you're nothing like what we expected."

"I've been holed up in a cold cell, in the dark, without food or water, for oh, I don't know how many days. Yeah, I imagine it might take a little longer than usual to heal." I snapped. I wasn't just hungry for food; I realized it's been days since I actually fed. My body was in anguish, not just because of the shocking experience, but because I was literally starving. I couldn't tell that to him, the less they know about me the better. I was confident nothing good would come of anyone knowing how I feeds. Human food could nourish me, but it wouldn't help me keep up my strength. I needed strength, if I planned on escaping.

"You're quiet." He said breaking the silence.

"And you talk a lot." I responded quickly.

"Yeah, I've heard that before," He chuckled.

"I guess what I'm saying is, I'm surprised you're not begging to be released? Most people would. You haven't even asked for help." He slid down the cell floor now at level with me.

I was surprised to say the least. I wasn't expecting him to get on my level.

"What good would it do if I begged, or pleaded? Nothing. So, why should I waste my breath? Embarrass myself." I pointed out.

"Fair point. I know you're hungry. Here" Damon said pushing the bowl over of rice and chicken.

"Are you trying to poison me?" I glared sharply at him.

Beta Damon let out a deep hardy laugh "No, princess, I wouldn't dare."

"The way you people keep saying princess. It's like an insult more than a title. Why? Why am I even here?" I asked sitting up reaching for the bowl.

"That question isn't one I'm allowed to answer." He said pleased to see me eating.

"Why are you here? Talking to me?" I asked skeptically.

"Honestly, because I'm not as cruel as everyone else. I wanted to see for myself this white-haired princess with crimson eyes." He answered, with what looked like genuine honesty.

Yet again, more people who want to observe me like I was some king of zoo exhibit. It's like I can't exist as my own person; it was exhausting. Even here in a cell away from the politics and the drama, I'm still just something to look at and wonder about.

I hated that, feeling like something that needs to be examined and monitored.

"You really are beautiful, I see why he's so obsessed with you." Beta Damon smiled. But it wasn't one of lust or devious, but one of pleasant curiosity.

"What are you talking about? Who's he?" I peered over at him moving toward the bars of the cell.

"Nothing really, just getting a clearer picture for myself is all." Beta Damon answered vaguely.

I was confused about what he was talking about. Who's obsessed with her? Kal?

"I'm going to get you a real bed and blanket, the draft in here is a bit much." Beta Damon told me.

"Why?" This is so weird; I've been kidnapped and I'm being held prisoner, why is he treating me nicely?

"Because even the children of monsters deserve a place to sleep." Beta Damon said flatly.

Monsters? Why did they keep calling my father a monster?

I said nothing just simply nodded and continued eating. They sat in silence the remainder of the meal. After I finished, he collected the bowl and cup and got up to leave.

"Hey, wait." I yelled but then paused.

"Hmm…" He asked.

"Thanks." I pushed the words out if even though they tasted bad.

"You're welcome. I'll have a bed brought in soon." He winked and left.

I was once again alone, in her cold sad cell. And now my body ached something fierce.

"That fucking bitch. I'll kill her."
