Chapter 27 - Dreadwood Forest [4]

Seeing as the goblin was getting away, Zane immediately casted another spell. He raised his wand, aiming at the goblin wearing a dirty-ripped cloak. He then fired an ice shard, peircing the goblin from behind.

Zane let out a sigh of relief. He then wiped the sweats that had accumulated on his forehead. He was actually getting tired this time, for some reason, the monsters just keep coming non-stop. Zane might have a high amount of mana capacity, but he couldn't say the same with his stamina.

Clap!

Clap!

Hearing a 'clap' sound, Zane looked behind him, he stared at Velrath who had a genuine smile on his face.

[That was brilliant, Zane. Honestly, I didn't expect that from you. However, you should probably get moving now, I think monsters could easily sense you because of your large amount of mana.]

Zane paused for a while, a hint of confusion showing on his face. Although he had read many books, regarding about mana, he hasn't really read that much books, regarding about monsters.

[Huh? Why is that?]

[Monsters are sensitive when it comes to mana. That's how they are able to sense a human being, when they are nearby. However, it works differently for humans. The stronger you are, the more you will be able to sense a person's mana. That's why, despite your large amount of mana, no one could tell your sudden transformation. I can't say the same for your father though, considering he is the current strongest mage in the kingdom of Ashveil, he could probably sense the large amount of mana within you. So, I suggest that you learn to hide it, well.]

Zane stared at Velrath for moment, a bit surprised by his statement. He never thought of hiding his large amount of mana, thinking that all he had to do to hide it, was simply not tell anyone. But, I guess he was wrong.

Sighing, he immediately started to get moving.

'Damn it, that means I might attract more monsters as time goes by.'

Zane wasn't prepared for this, this was simply above his expectations. Although the monsters that lurks around here are mostly D-rank below, they are still dangerous. Monsters can be cunning and ruthless sometimes, however, as long as he had Velrath with him, protecting him. The chances of him getting killed isn't really that high.

Although the chances are low, he could still get killed. He's just hoping a monster that is as fast as a sound wouldn't appear out of nowhere, as things would definitely go bad for him. After all, Velrath doesn't have his physical body, that means, he can only use spells that doesn't involve his physical body.

If a monster that is much faster than him, decided to kill him. Velrath wouldn't be able to stop him, simply because he doesn't have his physical body anymore. Velrath's spell is too destructive after all, if a monster as fast as a sound were to get close to Zane, he wouldn't be able to cast a spell, as it woud also destroy Zane.

That's why, this is actually getting really bad. Zane had already went deep in the forest, going back might take an hour. Honestly, he didn't even want to be here anymore. He wanted to go here to gain experience, not to get himself killed.

If monsters could easily sense him, he would have to fight them non-stop. Hell, he doesn't even want to imagine it. He expected to fight fewer monsters, after all.

Seeing that Zane was walking in the direction where he had been walking earlier, a hint of confusion started to form on Velrath's face.

[Hey, Zane? Are you going back already?]

Zane then responded without looking back at Velrath.

[Yup, this is too dangerous, honestly.]

Velrath couldn't really disagree, although he wanted to see more actions, he also needed Zane alive. After all, he would also die along with him, erasing his soul from existence. Which he doesn't want to happened.

And plus, he was against of this in the first place. But, seeing Zane's determined eyes. He couldn't really stop him.

[Alri-]

Hearing Velrath stutter, Zane couldn't help but be confused and look towards Velrath. However, what he saw horrified him. Velrath's face had never looked so scared before. Horror was all over Velrath's face. What could have terrified a demon king?

However, before he could respond. Velrath spoke first, with a tone that sent shiver down Zane's spine.

[Zane, Run!]

Hearing, Velrath's horrified voice. He asked with confusion.

[Huh? Why?]

[Don't ask anymore questions! Just ran on the opposite direction, on where you were heading!]

Not asking anymore more questions, Zane immediately head off, running with all his might. He didn't know why Velrath was being like this, but he knew it wasn't any good.

"What the hell was that?"

Velrath was left behind, for some reason he just stayed still there, he looked like he was about to cast a spell. As Zane run, he could finally hear it. He could finally hear the sound of the bushes, not just bushes but trees as well, moving rapidly. As if... as if hundreds of monsters were going after him.

"Crap, crap, crap!"

Zane could feel his heart beating faster as seconds go by, he could feel his sweat dripping in his body even more. This time... he could actually die. If Velrath failed to stop all of the monsters that came after him, that means he would have to fight off the monsters that went past Velrath.

Zane gritted his teeth. As he kept running far away from the monsters. He could hear it, Velrath's destructive spells. He could the sound of the monsters getting mutilated. It really reminded him how terrifying Velrath was.

Zane could also feel his legs hurting, he could feel his stamina getting drained as he kept running away from the monsters. He had been walking around the forest for almost an hour now, he was almost at his limit. Hell, he had never been so glad to be physically active before.
