Zane rose up from the ground. It was still quite dark at night, so Ronin could barely see him in the dark. The only reason why Zane could tell the carriage was in front of him, was because of the torches that was in the carriage.
Zane then walked, heading to the carriage. Although he didn't really fight that many monsters, he already felt tired. Well, not that surprising, considering Zane wasn't really that physically active. However, he may have not fought that much monsters, he gained a valuable experience.
As Zane got closer to the carriage, he could see Ronin even clearer than before. For some reason, Ronin's face looked horrified. Zane's eyes furrowed, it was unusual to see Ronin like this. After all, he was an assassin.
As Zane got even closer to the carriage, he could see Ronin's face soften. A gentle smile appeared on Ronin's face, he then said.
"Thank goodness, young master. I heard a loud sound coming from the forest, I thought a high rank monster was chasing you down! I was about to come there to see for myself."
Zane paused for a while. He was deciding whether he should tell the truth or not. But, he decided against it, what happened back there was simply too valuable of an information. And he can't just really tell him that monsters were chasing him down because of his large amount of mana, and Velrath the former demon king was the one holding all those monsters down.
Saying all of this information to a carriage driver on Ironveil just sounds so absurd. He simply couldn't let anyone know about Velrath, as well as his large amount of mana, since, Velrath was connected to why he had a large mana pool.
Zane had actually been thinking about it for a while, how is he going to make an excuse for his large mana pool once he gets discovered? After all, Zane was known for having the lowest mana pool, not just in the Thaleward clan, but in the Arcana Magic Acadamy as well.
"About that, I heard it too. That's why I hurried to get away from the forest as fast as possible."
Ronin stared at Zane for a moment. He was suspecting Zane to be the root of the loud sound coming from the forest, but how can that be? From Ronin's measurement, the current Zane wasn't that strong enough to cause such destructive spells.
Ronin was starting to dread what was happening in the forest, the only thing in his mind was that they had to get out of here. Aside from that, he got thousand of questions he wanted to ask Zane. It was really unusual for him to just suddenly get stronger. He had to make sure, that Zane didn't make a contract with a demon.
Making a contract with a demon was a crime, enough to sentence you to death. Not only would Zane be sentenced to death, but it would also ruin the reputation of the Thaleward clan. That's why it was such an important matter.
"Hmm... alright. Let's get going already, then."
Zane then immediately got inside the carriage. As he finally got to sit down in the carriage seat, he couldn't help but release a heavy sigh. Dark circles could be seen on Zane's eyes, indicating that he hadn't been sleeping well in the past few days.
The moment Zane got inside the carriage, Ronin also immediately sat in the front, controlling the horse. For some reason, he looked like he was in a hurry. He then set the carriage to move, heading to Zane's acadamy.
Ronin was also quite the whole ride, he seemed to refrained his self from asking Zane any questions. A sense of dread could be seen on his expression, it seems that he didn't really want to know the truth.
He really wanted his thoughts to be wrong, that's why for now he will observe Zane, and see if he truly made a contract with a demon. Zane could also feel that Ronin was suspicious of him. But, he was too tired to deal with that right now. For now, he will focus more on the important part.
Zane's eyes was closed, his body was leaned against the seat. He then raised his right hand, then opened his eyes and stared at his forearm with a strange mark embedded on it. Zane could feel immense power coming from it, although it was vague, he could sense it. That's how he was able to tell that the strange mark embedded on his forearm was the divine egg that Sylvaris wanted to give to him.
It seems that Sylvaris had planted the mark on his forearm without him realizing it. Curiosity was all over his face, all of the things that happened to him recently, was simply out of ordinary.
Meanwhile, Velrath who was still observing Zane, stared at him strangely. Velrath had actually tried to peek in Zane's memory earlier when he was in Zane's body, but Zane resisted it, and he wasn't able to see anything because of that.
He was starting to wonder why Zane kept looking at his forearm. Considering Zane's behavior since earlier, Velrath had suspected that something out of ordinary had definitely occurred. Basing on Velrath's measurement, at least hundreds of monsters came after Zane earlier.
That strange phenomenon was enough to tell, how large Zane's mana pool is. But, that wasn't what he was curious about. What he was truly curious about was why he suddenly disappeared, the moment he got into a far distance from Velrath.
Velrath really wanted to find out, and so he decided to ask Zane.
[Hey kid, how about you just tell me what happened earlier? And you keep looking in your forearm, it just makes you so much more suspicious.]
Hearing Velrath's voice, he slowly looked towards him. 'Ah, right. Should I tell him?' Zane had also been thinking about this. Many of the so called deities, didn't really like the demon race, simply because of their nature, demons also didn't like the deities. But at the same time, some deities accepted the demon race, however Zane couldn't say the same for Velrath.
Zane honestly had a hard time, deciding whether it was alright to tell him about Sylvaris. However, knowing Velrath's nature, it couldn't be much of a problem right?
