After dealing with cops and forensics Elijah pulled out his phone, "Niklaus."
"What is it?" asked Klaus.
"You're going to want to see this, and bring the others," said Elijah looking at the massacre.
The event first unfolded outside, where the heart of a large man had been viciously extracted. As one's eyes moved to the shattered tinted windows, they were drawn to the blood trails that led into the interior, accompanied by clear drag marks that indicated a violent retrieval. Inside, the situation was even more horrific, with multiple bodies found mutilated, their limbs, hearts, and the remains of various vampires scattered throughout. The extent of the destruction resembled that of a bomb blast.
"How did you manage to find this?" asks Klaus upon arriving with Kole and Rebekah in tow.
"Stumbled upon it in my search for Mother and Finn. It was a local vampire hot spot," said Elijah, "This," Flipping over one of the bodies with his foot, "Was Alex. A 664-year-old vampire. I knew him well; he was always so ambitious."
"Brutal, if I didn't know better, I'd have thought it was one of us, who knew he had it in him," said Kol.
"What do you think they did to him?" asked Rebekah with furrowed brows.
"What do you mean? What can they possibly do to him?" asked Kol confused.
"You don't think he'd do this for no reason do you?" asked Rebekah.
"You think it's part of Mother's plan?" asked Klaus, which made her roll her eyes.
"I don't see how, too messy to be a part of any spell, and it seemed like he enjoyed it," answered Kol kicking a limb.
"Could you not," said Rebekah disgusted, which made him grin.
"I agree with Kol, this," Elijah said, waving his hands around at the place. "This doesn't seem like any spell, although it doesn't seem like Finn either. I don't know what to make of it, but whatever this is, it's disturbing, to say the least, whether it be something of Mother's design or if our dear older brother has lost his mind," said Elijah, thinking of the box.
"Well, then we better find them, haven't we?" Klaus stressed. It was about time he brought back his hybrids; feeling like he would need them now after having kept them safely hidden from his sibling's wrath upon their awakening.
…
It was late evening by the time Finn got around to visiting the coven.
Mary invited him in, and he could see Ana fuming in the back just glaring at him.
After giving them one of the lesser grimoires of no great note, but likely greater than anything they had, he left taking the next few days off to relax, and to let Niklaus stew.
When he revisited the coven, the compound was in shambles.
Ana stormed out, "You asshole! Where were you, why didn't you answer your phone?"
"Turned it off, had to get a new one, siblings wouldn't stop calling. What happened here?" He asked looking around at the damage.
"The Night Garden," answered Mary stepping out, "Somehow, they learned about our new grimoire and attacked hoping to get their grubby little hands on it. Thankfully we were prepared after the last time, so they didn't make it far, though they escaped with their miserable lives," she spat.
"Need help?" asked Finn.
"In time perhaps, but for now this is a good lesson for us. Come inside, I assume you didn't come because of this," said Mary, leading him in. She wanted him in their debt not the other way around.
"No as I told Ana, new phone," said Finn, ignoring her huffing behind him.
"So just came to give us your new number?" asked Mary, brushing debris off the counter to fix a pot of tea.
"No, it was about time I started my revenge, I've wasted enough of it. Who knows how many more hybrids have been made," said Finn, realizing he may have been a bit too passive the past few days.
"Well, if he needs werewolves to make them, you may be in luck since there aren't any major packs around here," said Mary.
"If I'm lucky, Niklaus will still be in Mystic Falls consolidating whatever meager power he's managed to scrounge up before stretching his claws outwards," said Finn.
"What do you need from us?" asked Mary, eager to put them back on even footing since receiving that spell book.
"A locator spell, I need you to find my sister Rebekah for me," said Finn. Taking her first would infuriate the others.
"Simple enough, I assume you have something of Her's that we can use," said Mary, pouring a cup of tea for her and her guest.
"Will this be enough?" He asked, handing over some garments.
"As long as she's not protected by anything," said Mary, indicating for Ana to take it, whose mood soured further. Intending to dump the work onto her sister.
…
On the road back to Mystic Falls his phone rang, "This is Finn," he answered.
"Eva here. It looks like your sister is leaving town and heading towards the bridge," she said, looking down at the glowing mark on the map.
"That's convenient. Thanks, I'll stay on the line for now in case anything changes," he said, stepping on the gas, pleased to be speaking to Eva instead of Ana.
"Sure thing," said Eva, happy to help.
"Hmm, something's wrong," said Finn as the bridge came into view. It looked like it was under construction.
"Everything okay?" asked Eva.
"Yes, but I have to hang up now, I'll call you if I need you," said Finn, shutting off his headlights.
"Sure, I'll be here. Bye," said Eva chipperly.
Hanging up, he pulls over, watching from a distance as his sister dismantles the bridge's wooden underpinnings, plank by plank, and piles them up into a great big bonfire.
Exiting his vehicle, he walks towards her in a way so that the scaffolding obscures him as a car comes speeding from the other side.
He didn't know what was going on between his sister and one of the doppelganger's guard dogs, and it didn't matter with his first target insight, beginning to vamp speed away.
Just as he was getting ready to make his move, he spotted movement in the nearby woods on the other side, where another could be seen watching as well, a familiar redhead who took his breath away as she came out to confront the elder Salvatore.
"Sage!" he gasped.
