Damon's POV
"What is wrong with you?!" I screamed at Emily as soon as the car door closed us from the outside world.
"I don't think I know what you mean." She replied, looking out her window.
"I think you do." I said to her, "And I'd very much prefer if you looked at me while we're having a conversation."
"I did not think this was gonna be a conversation." Emily said.
"I can't believe you." I said. "How did we get here?" I asked
"I'm sorry." She apologized.
I didn't expect it.
She picked at her nails, and looked so hard at them while at it. But her calm was suspicious.
Then I heard her sniff.
"Babe?" I called out to her, passing my hand over her thighs.
"I don't mean to be that way." She added.
"I know, I know, babe." I put her head on my shoulder.
"It just seemed like you weren't so proud of me." Emily said.
"Come on!" I rubbed her back, "That's not possible. You know it's been awfully long since I saw Adrian, I didn't know what to say and what not to. I apologize, I was shy."
"It feels funny to hear you admit that." She laughed between sobs.
"But it's not a bad thing, is it?" I asked her, laughing too.
From the car's rear view mirror, I could see Farh smiling contentedly.
"It can't be." She replied, raising her head up to meet mine.
"Forgive me, Emily." I apologized again, and she blinked in agreement.
"Back to the office, is it?" She asked.
"Yeah. I got to show you how things work around there. I need you to know what to do, if ever, I'm not around." I said to her,
"And what could make you 'not around'?" She looked at me, like a little pet.
"A lot of things, mainly work related." I replied to her.
"That would be scary. And very intimidating." She shuddered.
"I know you'd do just fine." I assured her.
"How close are we to the office?" She asked.
"You don't sound too excited." I chuckled.
"No I'm not." She shot back. "How would I? I'm taking over someone's job. I have to do a nine to five that I have absolutely no interest in, more so, I don't have any experience whatsoever. It seems like you're just setting me up for embarrassment."
"You don't mean what you're saying." I kissed her forehead as we arrived back at the office.
The surface of the building wall that sent light back into the car confirmed it.
"Well, we're back now." I said.
"Oh, I'm excited." Emily replied sarcastically.
"You will be. We'll be using my office together for now." I said.
"Didn't your former assistant have an office of her own?" She asked, looking at me cheekily.
"Well, you're more than just an assistant?" I asked in a sing-song voice.
"I guess I should have taken you more seriously when you said you wanted to spend more time with me." She said,
"Yeah. Now come on, you've got work to do." I said.
I got down from my side of the car and turned round to open hers.
Lending her my hand, she got out of the car, and we both headed up.
"Let's get started." I said to Emily, after I had her sit opposite my swivel chair, where clients sat.
I explained all I had to to her. Handed her different calendars, my schedule, my books and a list of our clients.
We went over it again, making sure to let every detail sink in, explaining things as uncomplicated as possible.
"What do you think?" I asked finally after talking almost non-stop for about two hours.
"Let's just get started." She replied. "I'd love to meet your secretary, that's if you're okay with it."
"Sure, anyone. As long as we know what to say and what not to." I gave her a knowing look.
"I'll just meet her tomorrow." She gave up. "I'm not in the mood to have my tongue in cheek."
"You'll kill it, I'm sure." I said to her, flashing a tired but determined smile.
"So what do I have to do now?" She asked me.
"Just look at my schedule for tomorrow, send mails to every appointment you see in the book, confirming my presence between nine and three pm, that's all. After which you tick off all clients I've met today, the ones we couldn't, well, fix some other date that works for us both." I said to her,
"And how would I know what dates to fix?" She asked, wide eyed. It could be intimidating, I knew.
"Well, you just keep checking with both sides. Make sure it works with me though, that's your job." I smiled.
"Alright, boss." She sighed.
"It's weird to have you call me that." I chuckled. "Hurry now! We're closing as soon as you get done."
"You get to close anytime?" Emily asked me.
"That's why I'm the boss." I smiled proudly.
Emily bit a finger, looked at me, and got started with what I asked her to.
I watched her, in silence, content with every decision I've made that led me there.
"Thank you for today." Emily said to Fahr as we arrived back home.
It'd been a long but eventful day. And I was sure the rest of the day would hold more drama.
I wanted to spend the evening with Emily, go as far as she felt comfortable. I wanted to catch up on all the moments I'd, we'd, lost.
"Hello, Dathan." Emily's voice rang, as she left my side.
I closed my eyes and reminded myself to breathe. After all, it's not as if Dathan, my own brother, was a competition in the way I thought him to be. He's the one who gave me the idea of getting closer to Emily.
"Hello, Little brother." I said, slinging my hand on his shoulder.
"Was just about to take a walk." He said, and walked out on us both.
Emily and I looked at each other in confusion.
