Damon's POV
"You know, Emily, in medieval times, a couple had to consummate their marriage in front of all the wedding guests, just to make sure no one backs out after the wedding." I said.
"Yeah, but there's no wedding and no guests here, just me trying to put something on." She replied.
"I know that." I said. Looking away, not because her cheeks were terribly red with embarrassment, but also because I wanted to give myself some sense of suspense.
"Damon, please just go back and wait for me on the bed." She chuckled nervously.
I heeded this time, for both our sakes.
"Was that so hard?" She asked sarcastically as she re-entered
If anyone had told me that this was all I needed to do to turn things around with Emily, I'd have done it right after the wedding.
For two months, I'd lived in a hell I created for myself.
I literally never pictured her smiling so freely and being unrestrainedly happy in my presence.
"You look so beautiful with that smile on your face." I said, smiling like a smitten fool that I was.
"Come on!" She blushed and tutted playfully.
"What should we do?" I asked her.
"What do you want to do?" She replied
I could bet she had no ideas.
"I don't know. Whatever makes you happy. I have a lifetime." I replied to her.
"That's a lot of time." She smiled to herself and picked out invisible dirt under her pretty nails. "Let's see the rooftop?"
"Weren't you there just yesterday?" I asked her. I left out who it was she went with. "You're not tired yet?"
"I don't know if I could ever be. It's so breathtaking." She replied. "Plus, I want to see it with you." She added.
I wish she'd have looked into my eyes while she said it.
She looked so cute, so innocent, so beautiful.
"Let's do it! With pizza?" I offered.
"Now, that would be a party." She quipped.
"But it's just the both of us." I said, just in case in some other timeline she's having thoughts of making it an actual party, crazy, but just in case.
"Of course!" She exclaimed. "Let me change into something that'd make me look extremely wind kissed when the evening breeze blows." She chuckled and went back in.
I still had my trousers and shirt on, the suit jacket was strewn away on Emily's bed.
"I'm ready!" She said,
I stood up and took her hand, my wife's hand, and we headed out of her room.
Coincidentally, opposite us, in front of Dathans room, on the corridor, was Dathan, and some lady.
He leaned on the railings while she patted his back and held a cup. I wondered what was up, but thought better than to ask.
I didn't want to grace them with a second look. I made up my mind to ask Fahr who the lady was.
Emily waved stiffly, as her hand got a bit sweaty in mine.
We took the elevator, none of us had the strength for over a dozen flights of stairs.
"How did it go?" I asked Emily in the elevator.
"Uhm. What? How did what go?" She seemed jittery, nervous. Not like she'd been in the room just a few minutes ago.
"With Dathan." I replied.
"Oh! He's alright." She quipped and laughed nervously.
"But he's there leaning over the rails with that girl."I said, frowning a bit.
"He said I could go." She replied, looking at her feet.
"Really?" I asked her. "Emily, I could always see whatever happens in any part of this palace on my phone, at whatever time I want to. Please tell me the truth."
"Dathan saw his wolf. Just as soon as I caught up with him behind the house, I had to give him CPR cause he wasn't breathing and I didn't want to bring him in or raise an alarm. Then my friend, Zyna, came. I swear I never knew she was coming, Dathan invited her, she walked in on us, so I left them both, ran in, changed my clothes and the part where you woke up was where I was taking my bath." She rapped breathlessly.
"And you were gonna keep all these from me?" I asked in disbelief. "Emily, we're a couple!"
We'd gotten to the last floor, and so the elevator opened, exposing us to the breezy up-house Emily so badly wanted to be in.
She stepped out first, then I did. It was sometime around seven pm. The sun had set, but there was still enough light to make out tiny humans, as they appeared from above, as they squirmed about.
"He said not to! He didn't want anyone to know he'd seen his wolf yet." She replied, pleading with her eyes
"You have my word." I swore to her solemnly, and dramatically made a show of zipping my lips and tossing away the key.
"Thank you." She heaved a sigh of relief. "Can we please put that past us now and enjoy this sinfully beautiful scene?" She asked.
"Would you like to see a movie while at it?" I asked her, smiling and pulling her closer to me.
"Well, my initial thought was to watch the sunset, and watch the city's nightlife erupt." She said,
"You can barely even see the city properly from here. We're boxed away." I protested.
"Too far away." She added. "Don't you think you should be closer to the people you represent?" She chuckled and turned to me
"Well, I need my peace, and solace, and private time with the one who means the world to me." I replied.
She caught the drift and once again, her face flushed very hard. I didn't think I could ever get tired of making her blush.
"What movie do you want to see again? And how are we going to?" She asked me, desperately trying to change the subject.
"Fifty Shades." I replied to her. "I could send for my Mac." I winked effortlessly.
