Chapter 30 - Chapter 30

Emily's POV

"Rise and shine, beautiful." I opened my eyes a little, to see Damon's white set of teeth sending the sun rays in my direction.

"What morning is it?" I grunted.

 "Wednesday?" He asked, laughing.

"Do I have to go to work?" I asked, stretching my luck.

For the past two weeks, I'd been my husband's personal assistant.

Largely, it's been about arranging his affairs, organising his schedule, picking up after him. I didn't think it would be something I'd enjoy, but so far, I have.

"Well, the clients can go to hell then." Damon said and next to me.

I knew he was being sarcastic. We had people from the UK coming in, and there's no way we could miss the mouth watering deal I saw on the paper just yesterday.

"You aren't serious, are you?" I asked, my face half buried in the bed.

"As long as you are not." He said, snuggling close to me.

"Ugh. I hate Wednesdays!" I replied.

"I think you hate everyday you've gotta get up early and go to work." He laughed jestfully.

"I don't think you're wrong. But work lunches are the best." I said.

"Because you have them with me?" Damon gloated.

"Tough or fluff?" I asked him

"Tough. Always. I can handle anything." He said.

"No." I replied. " It's not just because I have them with you. It's because I have them with you, away from the palace." I added.

"Well, so far I'm the only one, then that's fine." He said, rubbing my back lightly. The day had already fully broken. If I was to guess the time, I'd say sometime around seven am. "What about here makes you uncomfortable?" He asked me. "And dare I say, I noticed you've been withdrawn from, well, you know who."

"Just say his name already. He's your brother." I chided.

"Well, yeah, but I don't want to aggravate you." He replied.

"You won't. Our paths just do not align anymore." I explained, vaguely.

"It never did. You were born to be mine." Damon said, lightly biting my ear, making me squirm.

Anything he believed was far better than his knowing the truth.

Zyna and Dathan had gotten close, too close! The kind of closeness where she comes to the palace everyday, sleeps in it, without even checking on me. The kind of closeness that makes her walk out with a slight limp every morning. The kind of closeness that makes the breeze bring in wafts of their happy times together into my room. The kind of closeness that makes me so livid, so, so jealous.

And every single time I feel that way, I remind myself that I've got Damon, someone who's equally as mad over me.

Dathan and I had never crossed paths since that afternoon when he saw his wolf, which was strange actually, but I liked it like that.

I didn't know what to say to him yet, but I was sure it would be something good.

"Emily, come on! We've got work to do." Damon said, after we cuddled quietly for about twenty minutes.

I finally dragged my tired body up.

It's been so difficult getting up early.

"I'll be waiting downstairs." Damon said as he got up.

"Alright." I replied from inside the bathroom.

The naughty little girl in me questioned why he'd rather wait downstairs, than stay in my bed, and ogle at my body while I got dressed.

I quickly dismissed the thought, and got into my work-morning-mood. A quick shower, a quick dress up, not leaving out the essentials though. The kitchen would send a bottle of yoghurt to the car for me, so I didn't need to go there.

I wore something that complemented Damon's suit. It was an unspoken rule between us. He never asked me to do it, and I never asked him to either. He just always got dressed first, came in to check on me, I'll take a mental picture of his fit for the day and mentally raid my wardrobe for something that'd go with it. And both of us seemed to enjoy it.

"Hey babe." I announced my presence in the garage. But only Farh was in the car. I felt a little embarrassed, but not too embarrassed to greet him and ask where Damon was. He said Damon dropped his phones and bag and went somewhere around the back.

I tried to think of what he could be doing, without his phone, and nothing came up. Farh and I gave him about five more minutes before I set out in the direction Farh pointed, in search of him.

Farh was right, he was tired, but not alone.

I couldn't quite make out who it was but as I approached, I heard two voices, Damon's, and a female's voice. It was hushed whispers, so I couldn't make out who the lady was.

"Hey." I announced my presence. I didn't just want to sneak up on them, Damon would not have liked it, and I'd rather not do anything to be on his bad side.

The lady, veiled, opened the door, which he led from outside the house to the kitchen, and vice versa, and it soon shut close behind her.

"Who was that?" I asked Damon.

My glasses were in the car. I should've worn them.

"Uhm, just one of these girls." He said with a wave of his hand.

"She looked bigger than that, bigger than me." I said, politely, not buying his story.

"They grow fast, Emily." He cut me off. "Now let's go where we are needed and leave them to do their thing." He said, over the sound of clattering pans and pots and dishes.

I knew that it was a command, not a suggestion, so I turned right back and led the way to the garage. Angrily, bunched my hair, which I'd just combed and straightened out, in a careless ponytail.

"Emily?" Damon called me the first time, I didn't answer. I, at least, had a right to be mad.

"Emily!" He called again, this time, I quickened my steps, opened my own car door, entered and slammed it.

Farh, wondering what was up, looked between Damon and I, and soon took his eyes off.

"Can we go now?" He asked, politely, like he did every morning.

"Yes Farh." Damon replied to him. "We can."

I pulled my phone and headphones out of my bag, put some music on, so loud I couldn't hear or feel anything.
