Ning Rongrong and Dai Mubai sought out the only food-based Soul Sage in the academy—Shao Xin.
By the time they arrived at the scene, they found Zhao Wuji had already activated his True Body martial soul and was carrying Ning Tianchen's unconscious body.
Ning Rongrong panicked and shouted without thinking, "You'd better let big brother Tianchen go! Are you not afraid that Grandpa Sword will kill you?!"
Dai Mubai reminded him, "Teacher Zhao, the incense has already burned out."
Zhao Wuji landed, gently placed Ning Tianchen down, and retracted his True Body martial soul. Irritably, he said, "Mubai, are you itching for a beating? I haven't finished my fight yet—do you want to practice with me?"
Dai Mubai was startled and quickly hid behind Ning Rongrong.
She didn't pay any attention to his cowardly behavior. At this moment, her mind was solely focused on Ning Tianchen's safety.
After examining him, Shao Xin said, "He's not injured, just completely drained of soul power, which caused his body to collapse."
As he spoke, a sugar pill appeared in his hand, which he promptly placed into Ning Tianchen's mouth.
The strength of a food-based Soul Sage was immense. Not long after, color returned to Ning Tianchen's face, and his consciousness gradually recovered.
Seeing Ning Rongrong's tears, he reached out to wipe them away. "Rongrong, I'm fine."
Ning Rongrong finally calmed down and praised him, "Big brother Tianchen, you actually forced a Soul Sage to use his True Body martial soul—you're amazing!"
Zhao Wuji, still present as the subject of this praise, felt a bit awkward.
With Shao Xin and Dai Mubai still around, wasn't this embarrassing for him as the vice-principal?
"Cough, cough, since there's no issue, Mubai will take you all back to the dormitory to rest later."
"Um… Teacher Zhao, since the incense has burned out, does that mean we've passed the assessment?" Ning Tianchen couldn't help but ask.
Zhao Wuji didn't answer directly. "Rest early. Tomorrow is the opening ceremony."
Upon hearing this, Dai Mubai understood—Ning Tianchen and the others had officially become his classmates.
In fact, as long as Ning Tianchen and the others hadn't backed out of the sparring match outright, regardless of the outcome, Zhao Wuji would have let them enroll.
Only a fool would turn away such geniuses.
…
"Wow, so what Boss Dai said was true—you actually forced Teacher Zhao to use his True Body martial soul?" Oscar looked at Ning Tianchen with admiration.
"Cough, cough, stop talking nonsense. Quickly give me and Rongrong each a sausage—we need to recover." Ning Tianchen urged.
Ning Rongrong had expended most of her soul power during the earlier assessment and indeed needed to replenish herself.
Oscar was very straightforward and immediately agreed.
"By the way, there's an empty bed in my dorm. Why don't you stay with me?" Oscar smirked mischievously.
After some thought, Ning Tianchen decided to accept.
Compared to Dai Mubai and Tang San, Oscar was a breath of fresh air.
Next came the dormitory arrangements.
Li Yusong assigned the three girls to a large dormitory. As for Tang San, he was placed in a room with Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun.
The living conditions at Shrek Academy were undeniably "harsh" for a young lady like Ning Rongrong.
In the evening, she found Ning Tianchen and couldn't help but complain.
In the original timeline, she had been all alone, unwilling to return home, and had no choice but to endure everything silently. One could imagine how bitter she must have felt.
After listening to her vent, Ning Tianchen comforted her. "Rongrong, there's an old saying: 'When heaven bestows a great responsibility upon someone, it first tests their resolve, tires their muscles and bones, and starves their flesh.' This is also a test for you."
"In other words, if even a prince like Dai Mubai can endure this, why can't you?"
Ning Rongrong muttered, "It's not so bad, I guess. Big brother Tianchen, what do you want to eat tonight? I'll have someone from the village run errands and buy it for us."
Having someone run errands was Ning Tianchen's idea.
There were many young men in the village where Shrek Academy was located. These were simple farmers, and having them run errands provided them with extra income.
"We shouldn't eat alone—we should know how to share."
Ning Rongrong nodded repeatedly and eventually found a man who appeared honest and kind to help with the errand.
…
As the sun set, Ning Rongrong sat by the roadside and couldn't help but complain:
"It's all Tang San's fault. If we hadn't listened to him, Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing wouldn't have gotten hurt."
Tang San's performance had indeed been unscrupulous. While Ning Tianchen was restraining Zhao Wuji, Tang San had seized control of the team.
This was akin to a general leading troops into battle, only for the emperor to suddenly replace him right after the fight began—and completely reject his strategy.
Just thinking about it made one feel stifled.
But what's done is done. It was important to get along well with classmates.
Ning Tianchen even planned to subtly win over a person or two. There was no need to let tensions escalate so soon after the start of school.
"Forget it, we're all classmates now—there's no need to dwell on this. Tang San might have issues, but his intentions were good, right?"
Ning Tianchen never expected that one day, he'd be defending Tang San.
But he had no choice. Tang Hao was lurking in the shadows. With his insight, he would surely realize that Ning Tianchen and Ning Rongrong were the future leaders of the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect.
If they harbored hostility toward Tang San from the start, once they fully took over the sect, would Tang Hao and his son still have a chance to survive?
In the original timeline, Gu Rong dared to kill Tang San; Tang Hao might not hesitate to kill them either.
In short, it was better to tread carefully.
However, Tang Hao wouldn't stay here for long, so there was no need to remain overly cautious.
Before Ning Rongrong could continue, the errand runner arrived, pushing a cart full of food to them.
Ning Rongrong gave him ten gold spirit coins, instructing him to buy whatever food he wanted, with the remainder as his running fee.
This man was incredibly honest. When Ning Tianchen saw the bill, he was shocked.
"You spent all ten gold spirit coins on food? Don't you want your running fee?"
Used to deceit and cunning, Ning Rongrong was deeply moved upon encountering such a sincere person for the first time.
She picked up a plate of chicken from the cart and handed it to him. "Take this dish home and eat it."
The man shook his head. "Noble guests, there's no need. I bought so much food that the shopkeeper gave me a plate of stir-fried meat as a gift. I've already taken it home—it's enough to add some meat to tonight's dinner."
With that, he turned and ran off.
Ning Tianchen and Ning Rongrong had just pushed the cart into the academy gates when Oscar and Dai Mubai walked out.
"Oh, I was planning to treat you guys to dinner, but it seems you've beaten me to it," Dai Mubai said with a wry smile.
Of the five new students, three were lying in bed, so he definitely couldn't host a meal today.
Oscar's eyes lit up at the sight of so much food.
However, he didn't dig in right away and instead asked, "Tianchen, is this food for us?"
Ning Tianchen chuckled. "We're all classmates—no need to stand on ceremony. However, there's too much food for just the four of us to finish. The others are still severely injured and may not wake up anytime soon. Let's send the extra food to the teachers."
"Generous!" Oscar gave a thumbs-up.
