The greatest concern when traveling at night was undoubtedly the bandits lurking in various regions.

Recently, the Balak Kingdom, in collaboration with the Spirit Hall, had launched a campaign to suppress banditry within its borders.

Most of the bandits in the kingdom had been eliminated, but a small number had managed to escape in time and were still alive.

Yu Xiaogang, however, was unaware of the bandit problem.

For nearly two decades, he had never left Nuoding City. Before that, he had always been accompanied by Bibi Dong or Liu Erlong, so his safety had never been an issue.

Naturally, Yu Xiaogang didn't think there would be any problems with traveling at night.

Unfortunately, his luck was poor today. In order to take a shortcut and reach Shrek Academy as quickly as possible, he happened to run straight into a group of fleeing bandits.

Instinctively, Yu Xiaogang wasn't afraid of them. Pretending to be unfazed, he walked past the group.

"Boss, we've been on the run for a while, and our money has already run out. What do you say?" One of the men, clutching his empty stomach, couldn't help but ask.

The leader glanced at Yu Xiaogang, feeling uncertain.

Seeing him unafraid and traveling at night, could this man be a powerful soul master?

Already being hunted by the Balak Kingdom's army, if they offended a strong individual, they'd have no chance of survival.

While they hesitated, Yu Xiaogang, not paying attention to a stone on the ground, tripped and fell flat on his face.

A powerful soul master's perception was extraordinary—how could he possibly trip over a stone? Even if he did fall, a true expert wouldn't land face-first like that, right?

Realizing this, the leader immediately understood: Yu Xiaogang wasn't a powerful soul master at all. He was just a fool pretending to be calm.

Under the leader's orders, the group immediately turned around and surrounded Yu Xiaogang!

"What do you want?!" Yu Xiaogang instinctively became alert.

As a soul master, ordinary people wouldn't stand a chance against him.

The leader stepped forward and laughed loudly. "So it's just some old geezer."

"What? Seeing us brothers, you don't even bother to greet us?"

Yu Xiaogang thought to himself, 'I don't know you people—why should I greet you?'

Before he could speak, the others were already closing in on him. Armed with long knives and glaring fiercely, they certainly didn't look like good people!

Yu Xiaogang let out a cold snort, and two yellow soul rings appeared beneath his feet.

Luo Sanpao appeared beside him, letting out a series of "luo luo" sounds.

Seeing that he was a soul master, the group instinctively took a step back. But upon seeing his martial soul, they burst into laughter. "What kind of powerful martial soul is this? It's just a pig martial soul!"

"Haha, kill this pig and we'll have an extra dish tonight."

With the leader's command, his subordinates charged forward without hesitation.

So what if he was a Great Soul Master? With such a useless martial soul, how much power could he really unleash?

Among the subordinates, a few had one-ring strength. Facing Yu Xiaogang, the Great Soul Master, they showed no fear.

"Second soul skill: Fart Like Thunder, Roaring Heaven-Splitting Luo Sanpao."

Yu Xiaogang quickly put on a mask.

Pfft~

Luo Sanpao released a cloud of earthy-yellow gas, and a foul stench immediately filled the air.

Such concentrated stench, if ignited, would have considerable explosive power—enough to scare these people. Unfortunately, Yu Xiaogang didn't know physics or chemistry, so he hadn't thought of this possibility.

Surrounded by the stench, the bandits were overwhelmed, their eyes watering and their stomachs churning.

"The old geezer does have some tricks," the leader sneered, as white and yellow soul rings appeared beneath his feet.

Though both were Great Soul Masters, this man's soul ring configuration was inferior to Yu Xiaogang's.

But during the fight, Yu Xiaogang could only command Luo Sanpao to charge forward and hold off the opponent.

Luo Sanpao was the weakest of weak martial souls. Once the supply of foul gas in his body was depleted, he had no offensive capabilities left.

The leader's martial soul was a gray wolf. Effortlessly, he subdued Luo Sanpao completely.

Without any surprises, Yu Xiaogang was captured by the group.

At this moment, he was forced to kneel before the leader.

He felt extremely angry and indignant.

The son of the former patriarch of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Family, once the young master of the family, was now being humiliated like this.

If no one he knew was around, he might have slammed his head into a tree trunk and ended it all.

"Old geezer, we're civilized people. But you—instead of greeting us, you farted at us? Tell me, how are you going to resolve this?"

They were already wanted criminals, so they naturally didn't dare to take a life.

The leader didn't intend to kill Yu Xiaogang either—extorting some travel money from him would suffice.

But Yu Xiaogang didn't know their intentions and believed he was about to die here.

He kowtowed repeatedly, slapping himself a few times. "Don't kill me—I'll give you all my money!"

The leader laughed. "If you had said this earlier, it would've been settled. We're not bandits—we don't rob and kill. But since you attacked us unprovoked, you do owe us some compensation."

"Alright, hand over all your money, and we'll call it even."

Yu Xiaogang nodded frantically and pulled out a money pouch from his chest.

Over the years, he had been freeloading at Nuoding Academy, so he hadn't earned any income.

The money he had came from the subsidies provided by the Spirit Hall for soul masters.

Inside the pouch were more than a hundred gold spirit coins, along with some scattered silver and copper coins.

"This old geezer is too poor!" one of the subordinates muttered under his breath.

The leader glared at Yu Xiaogang. "Old geezer, if you're not honest, don't blame us for being rough."

Yu Xiaogang was already terrified, and a foul smell emanated from between his legs.

Trembling, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a golden soul card worth a hundred gold spirit coins.

More than two hundred gold spirit coins would be enough for their group to enjoy themselves for a while.

Seeing that Yu Xiaogang had nothing left to offer, the leader sneered disdainfully. "This old geezer can't even handle a little scare. Get out of here—go!"

Yu Xiaogang felt as if he had been granted a reprieve. Without looking back, he ran far away.

In reality, he still had some money stored in a bracelet-type soul-guidance device.

Because the bracelet looked so shabby, the bandits hadn't noticed it, leaving him with some travel funds.

…

After the time it took to burn a stick of incense, seeing no one pursuing him, Yu Xiaogang finally leaned against a rock to rest.

In just thirty minutes, he had unleashed an unprecedented primal strength, running more than ten miles nonstop.

"These bastards—just wait until I catch them someday," Yu Xiaogang muttered angrily, glancing back as he caught his breath.

If Flender had been by his side, he wouldn't have had to grovel and lose his money like this.

This humiliation—his uncle could tolerate it, but his aunt couldn't.

One day, he would make these guys pay with blood!

After this encounter, Yu Xiaogang never dared to travel at night or take shortcuts again.
