Chapter 4 - A Trial It Is

Jayden came out of the house looking so relaxed compared to when she entered inside; she leisurely sat inside her car to reapply her makeup. She couldn't help remembering her discussion with her mother, how smoothly everything went contrary to her expectations of her mother. No-no stance, she wonders what brought the change out of her always neutral mom. Anyways, it's nothing much in as much as her so-called husband-to-be is not that mysterious, and there's still the benefit of getting to know each other, or else she'll rather stay single or drag the marriage out for as long as she can. She sighed and took out her phone, calling her best friend, now a business partner, to know if there's anything on her schedule for the day.

The young lady on the other end picked up with just a ring of the mobile. Hey, with this your immediate pick up today , hope no be say you're spying on me , asked Jayden. Spying on you? Madam Jayden, when did you add imagination to the list? You know I have better things to do than spying, right? Even if I decide to spy on you it because I'll love to be the first person to hear the good news, Ann retorted.

Which good news are you talking about? I'd rather say it's bittersweet news because who practices an arranged marriage in this century? But you see, that great Mr. Cole of mine is all over my neck to get me married. Do I say I can not find a man for myself? I'm just not ready. I don't think it's that difficult to understand, but no, he won't just get me. Even my no-nonsense, neutral mother consented to this and even threatened that my father might have to use the family rule; at this stage, I really think they do want a loveless, lifeless marriage for their daughter.

Jayden you cannot talk like this , no matter what we both know your parent loves you , they are only trying to do their part with your best interest at heart, I mean how could a grown up 28 years woman will just be with no man , even if not marriage at least they'll feel at peace knowing you're seeing someone but you kept refusing every suitor that comes your way over the years , don't tell me you still can't get over that matter ? You really have to put everything behind you and live your best life when you're still in your prime; don't wait until you're all wrinkled and all bone before you realise what everybody is trying to say.

Alright, thank you. What can I ever do without you? I also know they have my best interest at heart; moreover, no parent will be at ease with me having no man, especially with my past experience. You know, I've tried to move on many times and put everything behind me, but it's easier said than done, but I think I am now ready to find my own happiness. At least if it doesn't work out in the end, I'll know I did my best.

Now that's the positive energy and mindset you should have. Don't take things too hard on yourself. I know you're only pretending to be strong; you're still a young girl at heart. Before we know it, you'll be rubbing your love all over us. Go for it, girl. I wish you the very best luck.

Ann, I really appreciate this, although I called to know my schedule for today, but I think I'll take the day off to relax my mind and know how to start all over again, but mind you, all this doesn't mean I have to accept this arranged marriage of mine; I only promise not to make things difficult again and keep an open mind towards it; if he doesn't meet my standards, I'll stand by my word and drag it out for as long as I can or elope with anybody next in line. Remember, this is just a trial.

Alright, don't let me hold you up; go back to your business. We'll see tomorrow to discuss the next project and also the progress of the ones we have at hand. Enjoy the rest of your day. Bye 👋🏻👋🏿👋. Jayden hung up; she adjusted her mood and drove off.
