The hanged posters on the wall depicted a coloured sketch of a man, wearing a white cloak holding a sword in his hands and a sinister smile hiding behind the cloak covering the face.
"That's how I look when I fight? I think underestimating my looks until now." Silver read the description below the poster,
The man was found near the northern region just after a small avalanche at the snowy mountain tops. The person's identity is unknown and he has fled the while being actively hostile. Any trace of a man like this will result in a big reward.
Caution- If you find him, flee on the spot unless you are a warlord or a experienced mage/fighter.
The details were quite vague, which allowed Silver to breath a sign of relief. The other thing that pique his interest was that, there was no mention of any attack in the north, just a small disaster it was.
"The beat up warlord, couldn't have remembered my face. I would have been in much trouble he had remembered, most probably already locked up behind bars."
It also
"The poster has been there for two weeks. I think this has the longest in while for a poster to be out here."
"The person looks strong. Was he hiding in the mountains? or is he part of the another organisation."
The gossips were happening with men and women alike, taking about the new thief or maybe killer running wild. The fact that he was not caught on time was even scarier in the minds of the few.
"I don't know, I think they should close the city. If such a big threat is arising, we should prioritise our security over the trading, the coffers are full and business can take a minor loss for some security." In the crowd, there was a boy taking all scared, making his friends sweat.
"Don't worry, kid. I am sure the killer won't try anything between these walls. The security is quite well done." Silver pushed into their conversation. The boys took a good look at his overly-casual attire before they talking again. Silver prayed that kids don't ask the forbidden question.
"This is not so good of a attire that you are wearing, not have I seen you where before. Are you from another district?" And so they did ask.
"You can say that. I recently came here when Alsana-"
"The thief will be killed soon!" A old grumpy old man, dressed in checked shirt and a blue pant came walking and talking aloud from behind. Just like the grumpy man he was, the took the center of the conversation and began telling his own stories.
"The will definitely be killed. He just isn't a big enough of a problem for Lord Mathers yet. When he becomes big enough; he will disappear forever." he told all the boys and Silver.
"Lord Mathers, our king can catch the thief in the blink of his eye if that is his wish. Just is a believer in redemption and second chances, the thief should be careful what he does next. Oh! You kids don't know, you aren't born then where, when Lord Mathers wiped clean, the Kalkahnika. You kids haven't seen anything." In sort of a prayer, he praised Mathers every deed next. Silver was quite annoyed standing and hearing all the stuff; so he left the old man alone with the boys.
Although, there was a bit of fear that was instilled inside his head, what powers did Mathers have to track him without ever seeing his face or, coming in his vicinity.
"!"Then he remembered what Alsana had left for him, began to look up at the sun unbounded by all clouds and shining bright in the sky. "I have to put it to the test sometime."
Walking with this current attire felt a bit cumbersome, since he was aware that his attire was entirely weird, but in other ways it was blessings proving that he was outsider with no knowledge of the capital's culture.
Silver striked a elbow with a passerby, he quickly left with an apology, as if he was in a hurry. A note fell from his pockets, which Silver picked up from the ground.
He took a good look at the peculiar blank black paper. Then, he put it back in his pocket, he moved around the town, seeing churches, small restroom to shift to, a stable to find some good horses, and finally something special...
The building was quite large for it's vertical and horizontal scale. The big entrance of the building was titled " A household for the homeless."
Silver didn't bother to enter and check what was going on, there was a lot of noise inside the building. Silver didn't want to believe it, "This might be the best place to shift to, if we run out of money."
At the end of it all, Silver choose to step inside a church and see the god the of the people for himself. It was painted white in full, like anywhere. But when he stepped inside,
Once he stepped inside the entrance of the church, a message appeared on his screen.
「Warning: All mana based abilities and traps stop working in the vicinity. Are you sure you want to continue.」
"That's surprising. How does this work now?" Silver had to analyze how did that work, but he couldn't do it in the open, "I have to try to brute force it within the building."
「Activating Skill: God's eye」
"Argh!"
「Skill activation failed. You are trapped in a no mana zone, please exit the area to use the skill.」
The powers of the anti-magic in the church was much stronger than he expected, even thinking about activating another God's eye made him tried, so he tried to look around for what he came for.
The church was filled with glassware, and artistic pieces from all sides. Deceptions of a small baby covered in golden light shepherding humanity, just beside it was woman holding her child, but there tears in her eyes, there was more in other art Silver saw.
"It seems, they are rather artistic about their faith. Hmm... they should have left something for other people to see."
He didn't hate it, but in contrast, Silver's side, churches were quite minimal, with a single statue of a the great eye of god, that looks upon the humans and multiple faiths. The difference his side, told no fake stories about their god.
Still he walked forward, and there was no benches to sit. There were mats placed on the ground, and the benches were only present for the elderly as per the sign on the walls.
In the end of the it all was the two more artistic works, instead of stories these ones showed how the god was. "One of the picture of two mysterious hands blessings a child." The child was most probably from the old piece in the back.
The second was the pic was also two hands, trying to give their light to humanity, but it didn't reach as the light faded right before it could reach them, and the pleading humans were in the dark.
Under the two was small statue, of the crying woman holding her child. But this time the child was glowing bright.
"?" Everything he saw left, Silver a bit puzzled. There was a hidden story and connection between all of these, Silver tried seeing around the church to see if there was more picture, but there no other picture that he was able to analyse and make sense of.
Silver took a sigh and ground mat, he was walking left to right since the morning, and still he had found nowhere to work and earn for himself. "I can't cook, clean, fight (due to him being on the wanted poster), write poetry, run a business. What can I do to earn then?"
Silver put his hands back into his pockets, and felt the paper in his hands. The blank black paper that had dropped from the in hasty man. He brought it out of his pocket.
"Huh? It has turned white? and something is written on it."
"Come to the church in the third district with all your jewels, in exchange for your daughter or we will kill her before you can ask any warlord for help."
The message was interesting to say the least.
"Oye, what are you going here?" The grunts wielding knives, and clubs in their hands came walking by from all sides.
"Don't you know the church is closed today."
Silver tried to run away from the towards the gate, as he wasn't much far away. But the grunt caught him first, and pushed him down to the ground.
