Vae took care of the payment for our stay at the inn but I did pay attention to everything around us. I'm not entirely sure what's safe or not safe around here since I only ever knew the area around my home.
The main room of the inn was packed with people who just wanted to drink and enjoy themselves while a couple paid close attention to the group.
"Probably best we head up." Vae suggests while beginning to lead the way.
No one argued with Vae's call to head up to the room since she seemed to be good with her calls so far. This was proven to be the best option for the time being anyway.
Click. Creeeek. Mason opens up the door to the room and sees two beds inside the room for them to stay in.
He let's out a sigh before speaking. "You two take the beds, I don't mind the floor." Mason speaks before sitting his stuff down on the floor.
"You sure?" Vae asks.
"I'm sure." Mason answers before putting a bed roll down on the floor.
I brought a bed roll with me so that way I was prepared in case we had to make camp somewhere out in the wilderness. It doesn't bother me to give them the beds but I'm definitely a little worried about how the night will go.
It's the first night in a place I've never been before with people I haven't known very long yet. There's a lot of different things that I'm thinking about here.
Click. The lights go off in the room as everyone gets comfortable in their beds and Mason in his bed roll. "Goodnight guys." Vae says before turning over in her bed.
"Goodnight." Mason and Aria respond.
Personally I didn't really plan to go to bed just yet since I want to tinker with the device a bit more. I've gathered some of the parts I needed from that shop so this is the perfect chance to adjust it.
He waited an hour or two before he began to work on the device since he was being mindful of his companions.
Placing this crystal in the mix who help with enhancing some of the process but I can't guarantee it necessarily. Some of this was originally designed by my father so it's a bit difficult to make certain changes without him.
I don't know if I'll ever be strong enough to fight against an army of magic users if I can't make this thing work. Normal people like me don't seem to stand a chance in a world dominated by magic.
Clack. Clank. He began to move more parts around on the device as a slight glow starts to emit from it. A light blue glow came from every crevice of the device before lighting up more of the room.
I don't necessarily know what this means yet since I've never seen this happen before. I'll have to keep an eye on it for a little bit.
A few more hours went by. The night wasn't far from ending, nothing else appeared to be happening with the device but Mason stayed up to monitor it.
There's a lot that he still has to learn about how it works and what to avoid with it in the future. The blue glow had finally gone away but there was a lot in question still.
I haven't slept at all yet but I don't think I'll be able to with how uneasy I feel about this device. I'm sure it won't hurt anyone here but there's always a chance for issues to occur.
Sigh. I'll have to mess around with the crystal chamber a bit more tomorrow, that could be the main reason it glowed like that. It could've just been an effect from the crystal working properly.
Dad I'm trying my best to make something useful with the instructions you left behind but it's not easy. His blueprint for this didn't go past what I did to it so this is where I'm stuck.
He really was a smart man and my mother was even smarter. I wish they were still around for me to ask questions.
Mason feels a hand slightly touch his shoulder before he quickly turns around to face whoever it was. As he turns around he's met face to face with Vae. "You should get some rest Mason." She suggests with a bit of worry in her voice.
I do feel tired but I'm not sure I can just leave this device unsupervised. I trust my work and what I did to the device but something feels off.
"I do want to get some sleep, it's just that I've been working on this thing and don't want to leave it unattended." Mason responds quietly.
She looks at Mason with a bit of concern visible in her expression. "I can watch over it if you are worried about it." Vae says with a reassuring tone.
Vae isn't someone that I should be worried about so I guess I could trust her with watching over the device. I've not traveled with them that long but she is the reason we came here.
If she had some sort of ulterior motive I think she would've killed me back at the town we met in.
Town or village? I can't remember exactly what it was but that's not the point right now anyway.
"Yeah, that'd be great." Mason replies while rubbing his eyes.
She gestures for him to just lay back towards her. "You're already on the floor and I can sit for awhile anyway. I don't mind, you did save my life after all." Vae says while trying not to wake up Aria.
I ended up laying my head down on her lap for awhile before I finally dozed off for a bit. It was nice and soft, I never laid on a woman's lap before.
At least the first night wasn't so bad.
