[ Chapter XIV (14): "THE NEEDED REASSURANCE" ]
[ "Huh-?" ]
That's it?
Did Felix hear that correctly, or incorrectly. English is after all not his first language, but instead his second language. So compared to a native speaker— an american, of course his dissemination of words would be slower.
But after a few seconds he finally realized what Mrs. Blake had just said to him... A wish from her to prove that he can protect her son— which is looking at the side in awe, not believing that his mother would agree that easily to this unknown variable in front of them.
For when they first-hand witnessed magic, the matriarch of the family was the first to be skeptic, and also the strongest critique of it in the family of four.
But they— the father, son, and daughter of the family looked closely, and realized that this is rooted in fear; of her for her family's safety in being exposed to magic which is supposed to be fairytale, to the son of the family especially because he is the one who is supposed to be able to wield magic.
May that magic be bad, or good; they don't know. But from what they experienced so far, it doesn't seem to be bad, especially with the supposed Headmaster chatting at them freely, not blasting them with evil curses, or speaking in weird tongues.
Even the appearance of the said Headmaster surprised them, they knew he was coming in-between the month. But they didn't know that would be today, the exact day wherein they received the said letter congratulating the family's son on being accepted to study at Hogwarts— also confirming that he is a wizard.
And the fact that the said Headmaster would be a young man in his early 20s and not a sage with white beard, wearing a pointy hat, loose robes and wielding a wooden magical staff on hand— just like how wizards in movies are shown.
Surprised them at the point of stupor.
[ "N-no offense, Mr. Harp... But p-please, we need the assurance." ]
[ "Please..." ]
[ "Okay." ]
Since entering this humble home, he hasn't shown anything magical. And probably without the help of the Hogwarts Letter that landed here prior to his arrival, then the family would have surely outright not believed everything he said.
Instead of magic, Felix had shown the family nothing other than his weirdly colored eyes, mismatched colored clothes, and weird mannerism that'll be confusing to others.
Just like tradition: to reassure the mother of the family, he needs to do a little magic right here, right now. If not... Why not?
He pulled out his wand, a standard black dull wand— don't ask why he doesn't have one with a core, or a named wood in it. Due to the System's presumed hatred for him, he unlike the others couldn't wield a normal wand.
May that be because he is still technically in some sense considered a no-maj, or because the System isn't fully upgraded yet; he doesn't know. So with little knowledge about magic he has, he pointed to one end of the messy apartment, then to another end; [ "rehPAHroh..." ]
Which caused a faint light to come out from the tip of his wand, which then disappeared before the family of four could look at it closely; but the effect is indeed there.
[ "Wow!" ]
Under the watchful eye of the Blake Family, which was a little skeptical; all that disappeared as they watched their once previously messy apartment clean itself... Like magic.
The shoe that looks alone, doesn't have a pair, found its pair as it then organized itself on a corner of the room; flying away. So does anything and everything inanimate in their apartment.
The tables that have been slightly crooked, fixed itself. The sofa that has been subtly, fixed itself. The destroyed objects and princess dolls of the youngest, reorganized themselves.
The dust around the room, disappeared. The cracks in the wallpapers caused by play fights are now, gone. The crayons drawn on the walls slowly recede until it is completely gone.
In awe, the Blake Family watches their messy apartment get cleaned in one motion, and incantation from the mysterious wizard in front of them; the wizard which is calmly sitting, drinking coffee with delight...
Acting like the act he just did was normal, or perhaps it was normal, and that the Blake Family are just exaggerating things... Can you blame them? They have witnessed magic... True magic and not street show magic.
They watched carefully as everything around them flew around... Even the youngest of the family is in awe, noticing one of the uncleaned utensils in front of her flying, before being cleaned, then placed in a drawer.
So do the plates, so does everything. Before finally, with no less than a minute... Their extremely messy apartment is now cleaned as new.
[ "H-how?" ]
[ "That's magic." ]
Felix answered the confused son's questions. To be more precise, the spell he cast is one of only spells he knows, and could afford at the moment— he broke, and aside from Apparation this is the only thing he could use without harming or petrifying another person... Definitely wouldn't want to use those.
He drank more coffee and watched the reaction of the family... Which after recovering started bombarding him with questions after questions that ranged from absurd, to outright confusing...
[ "What do wizards and witches eat?" ]
[ "I eat dinosaur meat, the others eat normal meals; like steak." ]
He didn't lie, he does eat dinosaur meat. Unlike the other inhabitants of the Hogwarts Castle, he is an exemption.
The Professors and other school faculty can freely eat whatever normal food they want... But Felix can't, which leads to him having to kill and hunt dinosaurs, boards, wolves, and anything to survive. Worse of it all, he has to cook it, too.
[ "Then can you guys fly?" ]
[ "We can't, not yet that is... But we have alternatives like flying carpets, and broomsticks that we use." ]
He remembers knowing about wizards that can fly, in the movie version of Harry Potter that is... So to say that flight is impossible, would be incorrect.
And about the latter part? He didn't lie, wizards and witches of other countries do use carpets, it's just that it isn't in this universe; but somewhere else. About the broomstick part? Currently they don't own any, but soon that'll change.
[ "Is it true that witches sacrifice people to gain power?" ]
[ "Untrue, we wizards and witches don't do that. We learn magic through memorization of spells, repeated training, and by imagining things to life." ]
[ "Wow...!" ]
Felix silently thought of the original Harry Potter Universe, wherein his powers and abilities are based... And the fact that in the old times sacrificing people might be true, scares him slightly; because evil witches and wizards do exist... Just not in this universe, so, he can say no.
Questions after questions came and went. Most coming from either of the children which he has gotten to know also. Bernhardt "Buddy" Baker that'll be a future student of his, a 10-year old kid; and the daughter of the family, a 7-year old Anissa Baker.
Both of the children have a rich imagination as the former wants to be a Knight... Which is now redirected to wanting to be a Wizard-Knight... A good thing. While the latter wants to be a Princess-Witch.
Which is... Plausible, yeah; [ "Yeah that's plausible." ] In the future he'll see what he can do. If in some way, shape, or form can he manipulate the Book and Quill to admit a chosen student by him.
Then Anissa Baker would be on the top, closely followed by named characters in Detective Comics that he can remember... Which are little to none.
After a torrent of questions, an hour past... And with reluctance, the now fanatical Blake Family let him go; but not before reassuring Felix— the Headmaster that the family's son would study at Hogwarts.
Which came as a surprise to Felix; no family other than the Blake Family had accepted magic, the letter of admittance to Hogwarts, and even becoming a fan, all in under a day.
To say that Felix wasn't happy, would be dumb... He is extremely happy; [ "Oh... Oh, gosh, Mrs. and Mr. Baker it is... Thank you." ]
[ "Here, have this... This is a book, please tell the two children to study before school starts." ]
[ "And... Thank you again." ]
He grabbed a book from the inside of his suit's pockets— to be more precise on a pouch that is enchanted to care more things inside it; in this case a book titled The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1; knowing that Buddy couldn't do magic without a wand, he happily gave it away.
Which the other party received with frightening reverence in his expression. That slightly scared Felix, causing him to retract his arms; and quicken his goodbye to the family... He after all needs to visit about a hundred families more before the first-ever official school year starts.
[ "Please, Mr. Harp, let me call you a taxi." ]
[ "Thank you, Mr. Blake... But that wouldn't be necessary." ]
Under the watchful eye of the family... Felix disappeared suddenly, which was collided by a loud disgusting cracking noise that they heard.
They stared out the door, then simultaneously they looked out to left and right, outside their apartment's door; but couldn't see any lingering trace of the said powerful wizard.
[ "Teleportation!" ]
The son of the family yelled out loud, which the parents realized that must be the case. Living in the modern day, in the 21st century, they aren't foreign to such things, especially when in fiction there are hundreds of ways this said teleportation could happen.
They just couldn't believe that teleportation in real life is just that... Disappear suddenly without anything extra, and reappear somewhere else... This revelation opened their eyes wide.
And the two children of the family instantly wanted to learn all about it; [ "Mom, I-I'm gonna be a wizard!" ]
[ "And I'm a witch!" ]
Then the family's gaze paused and lingered on the magical heavy book given to them by the wizard, one that Buddy is holding with great difficulty at the moment.
[ "Huh...?" ]
[ "W-wait, this is my book...!" ]
And they instantly fought amongst themselves for it... This ultimately ends with them simultaneously agreeing to study the spells inside the book, without fighting that is... Gasping in awe every time they turn a page over.
To them, this is the closest thing they could have to a family bonding— for the Blake Family that is.
