Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Andrew walked into the office with a blank expression. Assistant Ryan had been waiting for a while and quickly stood up when he saw him, respectfully handing him the divorce agreement.

"Boss, this is the divorce agreement." Assistant Ryan spoke cautiously.

Andrew frowned slightly, glanced at the agreement, then impatiently snatched it from Ryan's hands. As he opened it, his eyes landed on Katherine's neat signature.

In that moment, it felt like a tiny needle pricked his heart. But the feeling vanished quickly.

"Did she hesitate at all when signing this?" Andrew's voice was low and cold, with no hint of emotion.

Assistant Ryan hesitated, then decided to tell the truth. "No."

Hearing that, Andrew's face darkened with rage. He threw the divorce agreement harshly onto the table. Papers scattered across the floor.

Assistant Ryan quickly bent down to pick them up. Wasn't it the boss who agreed to the divorce in the first place?

Why is he angry now?

Andrew grabbed his phone angrily and dialed a familiar yet distant number.

Soon, Katherine's gentle voice came through the phone. "Hello, who's this?"

Andrew froze, overwhelmed by a hard-to-describe emotion.

She didn't even save his number?

Did everything between them mean nothing to her?

If Katherine knew what he was thinking, she probably would've slapped him hard.

Nothing to her?

He had been abroad for two years without a single message. Now he had the nerve to say that?

Besides, she had never seen this number before. The one she remembered wasn't this one at all.

"It's me, Andrew. Since the agreement is signed, let's go to the civil office now and get the divorce certificate."

He tried to keep his voice calm, but the anger and disappointment still showed.

Katherine caught the irritation in his tone. Her voice turned cold. "Now? I'm busy."

"Katherine, I'm warning you. This is your only chance. If you don't come, don't ever try to find me again." Andrew's voice grew sharper, leaving no room for refusal.

He hung up, sat down in his office chair, eyes showing a mix of emotions.

Katherine stared at her phone after the call ended, frowning slightly. She looked around the office. Only Nurse Sana was there.

She stood up and said, "Sana, I need to go out for an hour. If anyone comes looking for me, please help cover. Thank you."

"Sure, Katherine. Go ahead. I've got this," said Nurse Sana with a pat on her chest.

Katherine took off her work coat and grabbed her bag. "Thanks, Sana. I'll be back as soon as I can. Dinner's on me tonight."

"No need. Just go quickly."

She glanced at her watch. It was exactly 10 o'clock. If nothing unexpected happened, everything could be done in an hour.

She had already checked on all her patients. Their recovery after surgery was going well and didn't need special attention.

The civil office was only about ten minutes away. If everything went smoothly, she'd be back before 11.

She walked quickly to the parking lot, opened the car door, got in, and stepped hard on the gas. The car sped off and reached the civil office at full speed.

Just as she parked and got out, she saw Andrew standing nearby waiting for her.

Katherine sighed softly, lifted her feet, and walked toward him.

Before she could speak, Andrew coldly said, "Let's go. I'm in a hurry."

She wasn't surprised by Andrew's cold attitude. She didn't care anymore. She followed him without a word.

Maybe she used to have feelings for him. Now, there was nothing left.

They walked straight to the divorce registration counter.

The staff looked at them and asked, "Are you getting married or divorced?"

"Divorced."

"Divorced."

They both answered at the same time.

Looking at the handsome man and beautiful woman in front of her, the staff couldn't help but think they looked perfect together.

She hesitated and asked, "Are you sure? You two look like a great match."

"Why are you divorcing?"

The two weren't moved by her words at all.

Andrew answered coldly, "We hardly see each other."

Katherine added calmly, "No love."

When Andrew heard "no love," he slightly turned his head and looked at Katherine's face. His expression showed a flicker of emotion.

But he quickly looked away and returned to his cold look.

The staff didn't know what to say for a moment.

After a pause, she softly asked, "Do you have any property to divide? Or… children?"

"No." They answered in unison again, firm and clear.

Andrew was getting impatient. "What's the holdup? We're divorcing by choice."

The staff was startled by his attitude and quickly nodded. "Okay, okay, I'll process it now."

Two red booklets were exchanged for two different red booklets. This time, the words on the covers had changed.

They walked out of the civil office, one after the other. Katherine looked at her watch and found she was actually ten minutes ahead of schedule.

Just then, Andrew, who had been walking in front, suddenly stopped without warning.

Katherine, lost in thought, nearly bumped into him.

She quickly stopped herself.

Confused, she looked up at Andrew. He turned around and stared at her coldly. His tone was icy as he said,

"Katherine, don't ever show up in front of me again."

The words stabbed her heart, but her face stayed calm.

She lifted her chin slightly and sneered with sarcasm.

"That's exactly what I want to say to you, Mr. Zhou. I hope we never meet again."

With that, she didn't look at him again and walked firmly toward her car.

If Andrew had been paying closer attention, he would've seen that Katherine…
