Chapter 3 - Understanding

The library stood in the centre of the city towering over many buildings. The morning air felt refreshing as I made my way over. The streets were quiet, with only a few people going to their respective locations.

The world was standing still. Peacefull. The night sky was being illuminated by the sun. The stars were disappearing. Morning had fully arrived and so had I - at the library.

The inside of the library was like a whole new world. The books were stacked onto shelves that towered to the sky. The spiralling staircase in the center made it even more magical, as elemental particles floated around it.

This library wasn't at all in the game. Yet, here it was. I started browsing through the books. My goal to come here was simple - to understand my traits. Especially the [understanding] one.

A book then immediately caught my attention: "Beginner Magic Theory".

"Should be easy. Let's start with this." I muttered to myself while grabbing the book.

I made my way over to the study area.

The library was quiet but I could hear the sound of turning pages. Was it the librarian? As I made my way over to the study area I noticed the figure of a person about my age - or Caelum's age for that matter.

With midnight blue - black hair, glasses that seemed to hide two crystal like eyes and beauty that would knock someone unconscious - one of the female leads- Aria Gravis.

Luckily because of [Power of calm] I didn't lose my cool. I sat down at the table next to the one she was using and started turning the pages of the book in my hands.

I read the first page.

Then the second.

Then fifty more.

I blinked. Five minutes had passed.

[Understanding] in effect: Information compressed, 84% retained.

[Prodigy] synergy detected: Applying learners structure to new theories...

I checked my mana again.

[Mana:1200/3690]

"That took way more mana than I expected" muttered to myself quietly, because of [Manacrosis] I can't use mana for as long as others.

Now it was time to check out how much prodigy applied. I closed my eyes, and held my hand out before me.

[Prodigy] activated... recalling learnered memories.... Applying theory... Recalling magic circle - Fire bolt...

It felt like something was moving through my body. A cooling, refreshing force. Focusing on that force I tried to channel only fire and lightning attribute elemental particles into my hand, this wasn't easy as I had failed a couple of times, but thanks to [prodigy] I could master anything twice as fast as a normal person.

I could vividly picture the magic circle for fire bolt in my mind's eye. A beautiful magical pattern weaved itself before me. According to the book it would only require 12 lines to complete.

I completed the first one.

Then the seventh one.

Then the eleventh one.

Only one more... Suddenly my flow was disrupted, and the last line failed.

I was so close. I was exhausted.

I got up, and took the book. Just as I was about to leave. An enchanting voice pulled my attention.

"You should probably filter more Fire magic particles if you have the fire elemental affinity". It was the Aria, with her face buried behind one of the books.

"Yeah, sure thanks." I replied walking out of the library. Those words were helpful to some degree. Caelum could wield every element to some degree, he didn't specialise in any one element.

This was double edged, it was versatile but also limited his potential to a certain degree, unless he could find a cure for [Manacrosis] that is.

I left the library and headed to my apartment. I have to practice the basics so that I can at least survive class. Luckily I already took out a few books:

"Mana control :beginners"

"Basics to defensive magic"

"Magical theory volume 1: elements"

"This will take me about two days to fully learn with my mana" I pondered and got to work.
