Chapter 5 - Chapter Five: “Reset Protocol // Epitaph of the Living”

—Only the forgotten remember what matters.

Scene: The Mirror Catacombs of the First Clock — Reality Layer -13

Kael stumbled forward, blood leaking from his nose, eyes, and fingernails. The mirror dimension was shattering under him — every step cracking time like glass.

"Who am I?"

He didn't know anymore. Not fully.Because with every mirror he broke, someone else vanished — names, faces, entire relationships, erased like chalk in rain.

Behind him, the sound of footsteps echoed. But not just one pair.

Thousands.

Kael turned.

And saw himself.

Versions of him, older, younger, scarred, mutated, dead-eyed, smiling, screaming, laughing. All of them marching toward him — a sea of what he might've been. The Verge Walkers. Time's failed reflections.

One stepped forward.

"You kept us locked in here so you wouldn't remember the truth. But the Reset failed. We're awake now."

Kael dropped to his knees.

"Why me? Why do I survive?"

The eldest stepped forward, eyes stitched shut with time-threads.

"Because you were meant to die. And the Clocktower cheated fate."

Scene: The Outer Sanctum – Cult of the First Timeline

A cathedral built of bones and melted hourglasses echoed with chants.

"All clocks return to zero."

The cult leader stepped forward, face hidden behind a stitched veil of time-paper.

"He is waking. The Destroyer of Futures. The Thief of Names."

"Bring the Echo Core. It is time to resurrect the First Timeline."

An acolyte wept as he opened a sealed coffin — inside, a relic pulsing like a heart.

A relic that whispered every name ever spoken.

Until one by one, they began disappearing.

Relic: ☠️ The Epithet Engine ☠️

A living paradox forged from the first moment humanity tried to forget. It doesn't kill people. It erases the idea of them.If it speaks your name, you are gone. Not dead. Not missing.Just… never.

The cult planned to use it to rewrite the world — one forgotten soul at a time.

Scene: Aelira & Finn, Clocktower Bastion

Finn panted, relics scattered at his feet.

"She's gone," he whispered. "Lira. I can't find her name in any record. It's like…"

Aelira nodded grimly.

"Someone used the Epithet Engine."

Finn snapped around.

"That relic's a myth. We buried it."

She didn't blink.

"Buried doesn't mean forgotten."

Scene: Kael's Collapse – Mirror Realm Fracture Point

Kael, surrounded by the screaming fragments of himself, clutched his chest. His heart wasn't beating.

It was ticking.

The Verge cracked open.

From deep inside him, the Vergewalker Core awakened — a relic fused to his soul. It didn't grant power.

It granted cost.

"You will pay for every second borrowed," it whispered.

Kael screamed as time exploded outward — a vortex of stolen futures, abandoned timelines, and erased regrets.

And when it cleared…

He stood alone.

Everyone else was gone.

Because for one breath, Kael had become the center of time itself.

Final Scene: Inside the Epithet Engine

A small voice whispered:

"Kael…"

He turned.

It was Lira's sister, Elene.

But she had no face. No voice. Just the shape of someone who once was.

"Save me… before I disappear for real…"
