'When a person thinks nothing will go wrong, something or the other will go wrong.' or in even simpler words "Don't tempt Fate"
I, Light, a college student, got a first hand experience of the saying.
It was my birthday today! So I had started my day wishing everything goes good today, and I will have an awesome day as today was also the beginning of the next semester at my college.
Everyone wishes that their feel happy on the day they were born. But it looked like my luck was not with me on this day.
The first thing that went wrong was I that I had forgotten to bring my smartphone while going to college and I found out about it when I was almost near my college, an entire 30 minutes of travelling wasted, and due to returning home to grab my phone missed the first two classes, and the first two classes were coincidentally none other than English, which was taken by my class teacher/ Mentor.
I had listen to her lecture for 30 mins straight delaying my lunch.
And then when finally buying lunch at the cafeteria, someone pushed me from the side, making my favorite pizza fall to the ground and ran away just waving his hands at me, like it was supposed to mean something, not even apologizing properly.
"Bastard" I yelled at him, which only made the students in the surroundings look at me.
I bought a standard meal set consisting of cold sandwich slices and a few stuffed buns, the pizza I had just gotten was the last one apparently and once again scolded the bastard.
I had to hurry and finish my lunch next was the physics class, in which I was scolded, for not doing the holiday assignment.
I finally understood and made a note to myself, always be prepared for the worst and not to miss any assignments from next time.
I had to stay back after classes to complete the assignment and hand it over, I swear, it locked like the physics professor was out for me. The two to three people I could call friends had already handed over their assignments earlier, so I could not even copy and had to do the entire assignment by myself.
I gave a pat to my back in my thoughts, at least I understood something more about physics, that is for every action there is a reaction, Newton's firs, ahem Newton's third law of motion.
I handed in my assignment, the glare of that professor not leaving me till I was out of the door. I stepped out of the college gates and just five minutes later got soaked by the sudden rain.
I, of course like any sane individual would, would not have brought an umbrella to the college when the entire last week was sunny.
I had to find a shop to take shelter at, and damn just as I stepped in the shop's entrance, the shopkeeper said that he was closing his shop due to the rain.
I then really felt that everything was really literally going absolutely against me, I made up my mind that tomorrow when I woke up, I would think what a bad day it is and see if it goes the opposite.
I had to exit the shop, to get soaked in the rain once more, which was had now turned into a heavy downpour.
I looked for other shops or stores nearby, it was like every last one of them had communicated with each other or something, all the stores were closed.
Bracing myself, I walked through the rain, imagining that I would be sleeping the entire day tomorrow due to cold.
A 20 minute walk and with my home in sight, now I just had to cross one more road and take a left turn, then home sweet home, and then a hot bath and a cup of maybe coffee? Tea?
As I was daydreaming about what to drink after a hot bath and started to cross the road, I did not see the car coming at me through the rain, and it was not my fault, it was pouring heavily making the surroundings darker and also which idiot drives through the rain and does not turn on the car's headlights.
*BAMMM*
Then all I remember was me trying to jump to the side trying to evade the car, followed by feeling a quick second of pain and then nothing.
...
As soon as I opened my eyes the next second, I was standing in a street full of people walking wearing clothes that looked from the middle-centuries, and the strange thing was some of them had features which made them different from the people/normal humans from my world, men and women with longer ears, people with half the size of an adult, men and women with cat/animal ears and tails?, and the more stranger thing was they were all armed with weapons and wearing armors too.
The surrounding buildings completely different from the modern landscape I was used to, the few street vendors shouting out their wares in high pitched voices.
"Buy this dagger, it'll help you till you reach Level 3"
"Buy this armor, it may not be comparable to the ones from the Hephaestus Familia, but it's only a little below them in quality"
"Buy this potion, it'll the first of it's kind, it'll help you in your nighttime combat"
The hell, I knew the people I was looking at were elves, beast human and maybe dwarves? not sure about that one, but, 'Dagger? Level 3? A level in some game? And then armor? Hephaestus Familia? Also potion? nighttime combat?'
I could understand the words but not the context, and another thing that struck me was they were not speaking in any of the languages I knew, but I was still able to understand them.
It was a just a brief minute of confusion, because I suddenly had another set of memories in my head, which quickly helped me understand the situation.
Those with longer ears were really called elves, those half the size of an adult- pallum not dwarves, they were more stockier or bulkier than these thin sticks, and those with animal ears and tails- beast humans, others who I still had not seen, dark elves, etc.
The Level 3 the merchant was referring to was the Adventurers, who have received Falna from the gods and can level up like in an adventure game.
I quickly turned around and went back to 'home' or what this body called home to understand the situation I had found myself in.
I was able to easily point out the directions towards home and was soon standing in front of a small two floor house. The house was painted in yellow color, with strips of orange around the corners and near the roof.
I took out the key from my pocket, opened the front door and entered inside locking it behind me almost like muscle memory.
I sat on the only sofa in the living room, taking a moment to calm down. The first thing that came to my mind was, why the hell am I so calm? even when I'm thrust into a different world, why am I taking everything in without any panic.
It was almost like my mind does not think there's anything wrong with the current state of my thoughts to panic.
After going through the memories one more time, I was able to get to know the reason why there was no panic, and I finally understood that it was not the memories of this place were the extra, it was the memories of myself from earth that were suddenly added into my mind.
I was not from earth, but it was just the memories of the place called earth being suddenly appearing in my mind, and disorienting my thought process.
And due to impact of memories suddenly being added to my mind I felt that memories of earth was the main ones and the memories of this world were the extra.
But now I that I had calmed down, my thoughts were cleared, I am Light, a resident of Orario, and had just completed the adventurer training classes and was on my way to the dungeon, when a new set of memories appearing suddenly had confused me and almost made me lose my identity.
The person from earth was also known as Light and it was hard of me not to get confused because that person also had red pupils and yellow hair similar to me.
Ah, no no, it felt like he was not similar to me but maybe it was my own previous life according to the earth memories, yes I decided to call the memories of the person from earth as earth memories, don't ask me why.
My previous life was on earth and I had awakened my memories of my previous life in this life, almost similar to the so-called reincarnation.
Taking a small break to recover and re-organize, I went through my earth memories and was surprised to find that there was no magic there nor was there the threat of monsters and gods were just beings of myths and did not walk the land of mortals like they did here, and that there were many differences about the gods from earth to here, like the Goddess Loki here is female and in Earth Loki is a male god, same with Hephaestus and gods of different pantheons were all mixed up here.
As a result of gods not walking the earth, there were no Familia, which was almost disorienting to me as someone who had been brought up in Orario, because as far as the city of Orario is concerned, the Familia's make up the entire framework of Orario and are also active in each and every field, from medicine, to producing food, to the city's security and the most important thing, fighting against the monsters from the dungeon.
'But enough of that, now it's time to dive into the dungeon, and get the sweet-sweet lout? No loot after fighting monsters.' I once again gripped the sword sheath on my left side, and stepped outside my house, heading towards the tower that looked like it was piercing the sky, also known as the Tower of Babel, below which lay The Dungeon, the one and only in this entire world.
Locking the front door again and looking at the tower of Babel, the usual excitement was gone, as there were buildings taller than the Tower of Babel in the earth's memories.
