Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 : The Only Thing That Matters

Third Person :

The island was… nothing like the movies.

There was no cozy little hut, no fruit trees ripe for the picking.

Just endless sand, sharp rocks, and a jungle that looked ready to swallow them whole.

Jay Jay stumbled after Keifer as they made their way inland, her soaked sneakers squelching with every step. The salty wind tugged at her tangled hair, and her arms ached from the swim.

"You okay?" Keifer asked over his shoulder, voice softer now.

"Peachy," Jay Jay muttered, wiping at the cut on her cheek.

Keifer slowed until he was walking beside her, his hand brushing hers — not by accident.

"You know," he said, a teasing lilt to his voice, "if you wanted to get me alone, you could've just asked."

Jay Jay rolled her eyes. "Please. You're not that irresistible."

Keifer chuckled — a low, rich sound that made something tighten in Jay Jay's stomach.

"Give it time," he said, flashing her a grin that was way too confident for someone stranded in the middle of nowhere.

They found a small clearing under a large tree — dry enough to set up some kind of shelter. Keifer immediately went to work, snapping branches into poles.

Jay Jay tried to help, but she was shivering so badly it was hard to focus.

"You're freezing," Keifer said, dropping the sticks.

Before she could react, he was pulling off his drenched jacket and wrapping it around her shoulders.

It smelled like him — warm, clean, and a little like saltwater.

"Keifer, I'm fine—" she started.

"You're not," he interrupted, stepping closer.

So close she had to tilt her head back to meet his eyes.

"You think you can survive without me?" he whispered, smirking. "Cute."

Jay Jay's heart thudded painfully against her ribs.

"You're such a flirt," she managed to say, voice shaking for reasons that had nothing to do with the cold.

"Only with you," Keifer said simply.

Silence stretched between them — heavy, electric.

Jay Jay could feel his breath against her skin, could see the droplets of water clinging to his lashes.

Before she could think better of it, she stepped back. "We should… we should find food or something."

Keifer didn't move. He just stared at her, eyes darkening, jaw tightening.

"You don't get it, do you," he said roughly.

"Get what?" she whispered.

"That I'm not thinking about food," he said. "I'm thinking about you."

Jay Jay opened her mouth — to argue, to laugh it off, to do something — but she never got the chance.

Keifer's hand cupped her jaw, tilting her face up — and then he kissed her.

It wasn't gentle.

It was desperate, hungry, as if he'd been holding himself back for years and the dam had finally broken.

Jay Jay froze for half a second — shocked, breathless — and then melted into him, clutching at his soaked shirt as the world around them disappeared.

It was heat against cold, want against fear, two hearts crashing harder than any wave that had thrown them here.

When they finally pulled apart, Jay Jay was dizzy, her lips swollen, her heart hammering.

Keifer rested his forehead against hers, breathing hard.

"I'm never letting you out of my sight again," he whispered.

Jay Jay laughed shakily, burying her face against his chest.

"Good," she whispered back. "Because I'm not planning on going anywhere."
