Chapter 29 - 29

After Dong Miao left, the villagers didn't leave either.

Since Julie hadn't spoken yet, no one dared to go.

No one wanted to end up like Li Yajun.

At least not now—who knows what would happen later.

Julie wasn't good at talking. Seeing that everyone was still waiting for her to say something, she thought for a moment and said, "Live your life properly. Meeting dismissed."

After saying that, she stepped down from the platform and prepared to go home.

The whole morning had been delayed, and now that she had the land deed in her hands, she was ready to start building her house.

She didn't plan to build a mud house. If she was going to build, she wanted a brick house.

If it was going to be a place to live for a long time, it had to be done properly.

As soon as she left, the villagers slowly started leaving in small groups. Li Yajun was already in so much pain that she was about to faint, so she quickly had her two little husbands carry her to see the doctor.

But the two little husbands were too weak and couldn't carry the tall Li Yajun.

They had no choice but to ask the nearby villagers for help, and finally managed to get her to the doctor.

Meanwhile, Bailee, Haven, and Lorrie followed Julie back home.

Julie walked quietly the whole way, not saying a word.

Once they got home, she went straight to her room and started drawing and writing.

She thought, since the land was big enough, she would make good use of it. She had chosen a spot at the foot of the mountain, not far from the thatched house. First, because it was peaceful; second, because it was close to a place full of spiritual energy, good for cultivation.

She planned to build a big house, with a back garden and a main hall. She would dig a well in the backyard to make it easier to get water.

A toilet was also very important. In ancient times, toilets were usually just pits or buckets.

You could imagine how bad they smelled.

The main problem with building a toilet was the water supply and the pipes. Julie had found a few natural springs when she climbed the back mountain before, so it wasn't a problem to bring water down.

The only thing that gave her a headache was how to set up the flushing pipes.

For now, she decided not to think about it.

When she couldn't figure something out, she didn't like wasting time. She preferred to handle everything else first, and deal with the hard part later.

She started drawing other parts.

She would live in the main house, and her three husbands would stay in the side rooms. She also planned to build three extra rooms, so when they had children or needed servants later, they would have a place to stay.

After she finished the drawings, a whole hour had passed.

She wanted to act quickly—start building early, move into the new house early.

So she said a few words to Haven, who was feeding the chickens, and without even eating lunch, she rode her horse to town.

Professional things had to be done by professionals.

She didn't even think about finding villagers to do it.

From the memories of the original owner, she knew the village didn't have anyone skilled in construction, so why waste time and effort?

Riding the horse was really fast. In less than the time it takes to burn one stick of incense, she arrived in town.

Julie asked a couple of people and finally found Liu the carpenter's house.

The place was a bit hidden, and would've been hard to find without asking.

She got off the horse and knocked on the door.

Soon, a man in his thirties opened the door.

He looked kind and gentle. "Hello, what can I help you with?"

"Is Liu the carpenter here? I want to hire her to build a house."

As soon as he heard it was business, the man's face lit up with a big smile. "She's here, she's here! Please come in. This is your horse, right? Don't worry, I'll tie it up and feed it well." As he spoke, he reached out to take the reins.

Julie knew her horse, Little Black, didn't like strangers.

Looking at this weak-looking man, she worried Little Black might kick him.

So she said, "No need, I'll do it. This horse doesn't like strangers." If Little Black kicked him, he might really get seriously hurt.

The man happily stepped aside and welcomed her in, then shouted loudly, "Wife! Wife! Come out! We've got business!"

Julie led Little Black to the backyard, tied it up, and gave it some hay.

Following the man inside, she thought to herself, Who would've thought? This gentle-looking man actually has such a loud voice.

It was completely different from the gentle image he showed at the door.

From inside the house came a woman around forty years old. She was tall and strong, and had a fierce-looking face.

But when she spoke, the way she talked was completely different from her appearance.

"Oh my, we have an honored guest! Dabo, serve the best tea we have! Come, come, come, honored guest, please come into the main room and have a seat!"
