Goddess pov now Selene
I had never been hungry before.
Back in my kingdom, I was above such things. Food? Water? Sleep? those things are pointless. I was eternal. A goddess of the moon, infinite and untouchable.
But now?
Now, something inside me twisted. It was an unbearable, agonizing emptiness, a gnawing force that wouldn't let me think.
At first, I thought I had been cursed. Had I been cursed? Has someone cast some vile mortal spell upon me?
Surely, this was a cruel spell, a trick of the universe.
But as I wandered the streets, I saw humans stuffing things into their mouths. They were biting, chewing and swallowing them.
They were shoving things into their mouths and sighing in pleasure. It was disgusting. Barbaric. Yet… they seemed relieved afterward.
I narrowed my eyes.
They weren't dying.
I think it's called feeding, according to few prayers I've listened to
So right now I need to feed.
The mall was bright, way too bright and loud. But the place was full of food.
Different scents swirled around me, some rich and greasy, others sweet and nursing. My stomach made a noise, one I had never heard before.
It growled.
I gasped. It was talking?!
Perhaps it was possessed. Perhaps hunger was a curse, and my stomach had become its demonic vessel.
I pressed a hand to my midsection and whispered, "Fear not, little one. I shall rid you of this suffering."
A man at a stall handed a human a round, golden thing dripping with red and white stuff at the top.
That was it, I think that thing was the cure, so I walked up and took it.
The man blinked at me. "Uh… hey, lady, you gotta pay for that."
Why are these people so obsessed with paying?
I just frowned and reminded them who I was. "I am the Goddess of the Moon. I do not pay."
He blinked again. "Right… Well, Moon Goddess, that'll be $4.99."
I ignored him and bit into the food.
It was heavenly, until it burned my tongue.
I screamed and threw it into the air.
The humans gasped as it sailed through space, twirling and spinning, before it finally fell.
But it landed on a glowing metal box, which immediately burst into flames.
A woman shrieked. A man dove behind a table. While another one grabbed his child and whispered, "Don't look, sweetie. She's possessed."
A moment later...
Alarm were blaring, even the ones they call sirens
People were screaming.
"FREEZE!"
I turned slowly.
Ah. The guards. Again.
Their weapons were drawn and their faces were twisted in terror.
I sighed. "Is it illegal to be hungry here?"
"Hands where we can see them!"
I crossed my arms instead. "You DARE raise your weapons against a goddess?!"
The tall guard grabbed his radio. "We need backup. The suspect is claiming to be a deity."
I gasped. "I AM A DEITY."
That was when a hand grabbed mine.
"Run!"
I turned to see a girl with wild brown hair, a wicked grin, and eyes filled with madness.
Oh, I liked her.
She dragged me through the streets, past stunned onlookers, over fences, between buildings, until finally, we collapsed behind a dumpster.
She was laughing.
"You.. oh my god, you" she gasped between breaths. "That was the dumbest, most reckless thing I've ever seen!"
I grinned. "Thank you."
She blinked. "That wasn't a compliment."
I wiped soot from my arm. "Your laws are foolish. I am not a criminal. I am.."
She raised her hand. "Let me guess. The 'Moon Goddess.'"
I smiled proudly. "Yes!"
She smirked. "Alright, Goddess, do you have a name?"
I paused.
A name?
The stars had once whispered my true name, a song older than time itself. But in this world, among these mortals, I needed something simpler.
Something that fits.
I straightened my shoulders. "You may call me… Selene."
She raised an eyebrow. "You just made that up, didn't you?"
I grinned. "Yes."
She snorted. "Alright, Selene. I'm Mira. And you, my celestial friend, are a walking disaster."
I beamed. "You are the second person to tell me that today!"
Alright, Moon Girl," she said, stretching. "You can't stay out here. You'll probably set another building on fire or something."
I gasped. "Can hunger do that?"
She groaned. "No, but you apparently can."
I shrugged. "I'll try not to."
"Yeah, no. You need supervision."
I tilted my head. "Supervision?"
She grinned. "Lucky for you, I work in the best place for crazy strays like you."
I blinked. "Where?"
Her grin widened. "The Alpha's palace."
Mira was strange.
Not human. Not entirely. She moved too fast, her reflexes too sharp, her scent… different.
Not that I cared. She had rescued me, and I had nothing else to do, so I followed her as she led me beyond the city, beyond the noise, into a world thick with magic.
I felt it the moment we stepped through the barrier.
The air hummed. The trees whispered. The moon, oh, the moon, it sang to me for the first time since I arrived.
Mira grinned as she watched me shiver in delight. "Yeah. Feels different, huh?"
I nodded. "It is alive."
She gave me a curious look but said nothing.
Ahead of us, a fortress rose from the shadows. Stone walls. Iron gates. The scent of wolves.
I inhaled deeply, smiling.
This…
This would be fun.
