Chapter 20 - Sinner Eula

8 o'clock in the evening.

For Mondstadt, which is set in a medieval Europe, this time is neither too early nor too late.

Most of the shops were still open, but there were not so many pedestrians on the streets. Those who had work to do the next morning had already washed up and were getting ready for bed.

The lights from thousands of houses shone through the windows onto the slightly quiet streets. It was in this slightly dim orange light that Eula returned from outside Mondstadt, exhausted.

After dealing with the difficulties posed by the gatekeeper knight, Eula walked into Mondstadt.

"8,000 Mora, this is the reward for your mission. Please take it, Miss Eula," Catherine handed over a small bag containing Mora with a professional smile.

"Thank you for your trouble, Miss Catherine," Eula thanked her politely.

8,000 Mora is not a lot, but for Eula now, it is already very precious.

After all,

Although she had basically severed ties with the Lawrence family, in the eyes of most Mond people, she was still a sinner.

Even though she had changed her career to become an adventurer, whenever she went to the Adventurer's Guild to take on a mission, there would always be someone who interfered and took the good commissions first.

The mission she completed this time was to defeat a group of Hilichurls 50 kilometers outside Mondstadt.

Rather than saying that she was lucky to have received this time-consuming, laborious, and low-paying task, it was more like those people stayed behind to deliberately make things difficult for her.

But it doesn't matter.

In the years since she left the Lawrence family, she had long been accustomed to this kind of difficulty.

From time to time, couples and friends walked together on the street, which formed a sharp contrast with her, who was alone.

But it doesn't matter.

She had been used to being alone for so many years.

The lights in the tavern were shining brightly and there was a lively noise coming from inside, but the fragrance of the fine wine and the charming lights had nothing to do with her.

But it didn't matter.

Even the tiny glimmer of light that peeked through the window made her feel very beautiful.

"It's decided. Let's use this money to go to the Deer Hunter Restaurant for a good meal! We've had a lot of trouble in the wild this time."

Eula stretched lazily. Her tattered cloak and old clothes could hardly hide her proud figure. She happily made the decision to reward herself in her heart.

However…

"Sorry, our chef has gone off work," Miss Sarah said apologetically.

"..."

Eula's expression froze.

But it doesn't matter.

This is also a common occurrence.

Her life was never quite what she wanted.

Eula had a purse in her hand and was going to the grocery store to buy some ingredients.

Although the store owner would always raise the price by 30 to 40 percent whenever she went to buy something, it didn't matter, as at least she could still feed and clothe herself.

But the accident still happened.

"Hey, isn't this the bastard from the Lawrence family?"

"Haha, look at how miserable she is. She looks like a dog."

"It's what they deserve. It's their fault that the Lawrence family oppressed our ancestors. This is retribution!"

While she was doing business with the shop owner, a few Knights of Favonius, who were burping and seemed to have just come out of the tavern, came over and talked.

One of them even walked up to the grocery store counter and tapped the table with his hand:

"Hey, hey, you don't want to sell the things to this person, do you? Do you know who she is? She is a sinner in our Mondstadt. How can you sell things to such a person?"

"My lord knight, I have raised the price by 40%," said the grocery store owner.

"40%? I think 100% is enough!" the knight laughed and said. "Back then, the Lawrence family plundered so much of our Mond people's blood and sweat. It is only right that they pay it back now!"

"——!"

Listening to their conversation, Eula couldn't help but clench her fists.

A few weak Knights of Favonius who drank so much alcohol that they could hardly stand. She didn't even need to use elemental power to deal with such people. She could easily knock them down.

But she knew she couldn't do that.

Even though she had tried her best to distance herself from the Lawrence family, she had already been marked by the Lawrence family.

Once she took action against the Knights of Favonius,

This would turn into a "counterattack by the old aristocracy against the Knights of Favonius."

By then, not only she, but many people would be implicated.

Just when she was about to swallow her breath and leave quietly——

"Bang!"

"Bang!"

"Bang!"

"Bang!"

Four loud slaps were heard.

The four Knights of Favonius, who were laughing and joking just now, staggered and almost fell to the ground after being hit.

When they finally stood firm and wanted to retaliate, they looked up and saw the figure who had slapped them, and their pupils couldn't help but shrink.

"Lord Yilan."

"That's outrageous!"

Even though he was just wearing casual clothes, with his straight figure, Yilan still exuded a profound and majestic aura.

"Tell me, what are the three virtues of a knight?!" Yilan asked loudly.

"Humility, integrity, and self-discipline."

The four Knights of Favonius hung their heads. Not to mention revenge, they didn't even dare to look at Yilan's face. Yilan's face, which was intimidating without even being angry, seemed to possess a demonic nature, which made them feel terrified.

"Tell me, what is Article 3 of the Knights' Instruction Manual?!"

"Please do not show laziness and boredom in front of the citizens. A qualified knight should always be ready to dedicate his sword and sweat to the people. Therefore… Therefore, when you are resting or having fun, you should also show the demeanor of a qualified knight and be ready to work at any time."

The four Knights of Favonius stammered in their response.

"So where is your chivalry?

You are drunk as hell, and you still talk about self-discipline… Look at your current state. If monsters invade right now, can you still hold your swords firmly?!"

"…I'm sorry, my Lord."

Surrounded by many people, the four Knights of Favonius lowered their heads in shame.

"Go tell this to the people of Mondstadt who support you." Yilan glanced at them and said, "Now, go to the detention room. I will report what happened to Captain Jean."

The four Knights of Favonius left in disgrace.

Eula couldn't help but glance at Yilan standing in the crowd. He was so dazzling, as if he was radiating light all over.

In comparison, she looked like an ugly duckling in her tattered adventurer's clothes, and she couldn't help feeling ashamed of herself.

"As for you."

Yilan looked at Eula, who was still in a daze, with his deep black eyes.

"We should not inflict the hatred of the past on people today, but we will not forget what happened in the past. I hope you can remember the mistakes your ancestors made in the past and not repeat them."
