I yawn in boredom... The headmaster's speech being the usual entrance ceremony jargon that is said on all entrance ceremonies ever..
" And that concludes my many words of gratitude... I'd like to call for our student representative to take up the podium and give the opening remarks before the distribution of starter pokemon."
I stand up and i walk slowly to the podium...
And immediately turned back around and sat back at my seat, my action earning the laughs of my peers and the headmaster.
"Okay Mr. Chevalier, thank you for that humorous performance... But, in all seriousness. I'd like to call the Freshman representative, Julia Mortegana to the stage...
This time, i look over a black haired girl. We locked eyes for a moment before she waved her hand at me while she had a bright smile at her face, my previous stunt having an affect on her mood.
I nod in response giving her a proud smile as i watch her go up the stage. This time i listen attentively to her speech.
"Good day to you all. And thank you for the skit Shoto, as this is of course... The most important day for our journey as Trainers."
" Today! Is the day we start our Journeys. Soon we will meet our first partners, soon we will expirience the hardship, the fun, the joy, and the world of Pokèmon! Here I am, on befalf of our class of 40 soon to be trainers. Not as the best of us.. but the one chosen among us..."
"I am Julia Mortegana, your Freshman Representative.. I hope we all succeed on our future endeavors. Signing off, and may the starter distribution begin!"
I give the first clap, and its then followed up by our peers, Julia heads over to my seat and slaps my arm as a goodluck sign..
"May i call on Shoto Chevalier to the stage to receive his starter pokemon..."
I stand up, this time. For real... I go up to the podium and the headmaster hands over a Pokèdex and the list of available starters to me on a tablet.
"Congratulations on achieving the feat of the highest scorer.."
The headmaster then puts a hand on my left shoulder and i stare at the 27 options before me..
"As the highest scorer, you are the first to choose a partner. A E+ Ranked talent Pokèmon of your choice, a testament to your abilities.. "
In the distribution of starters, it is in alphabetical order of surnames. But there's an exception for the top scorer. As they always pick first..
It's more of a ceremonial thing as it doesn't matter much as the given starters are only level I to E+ Talent.. which are extremely abundant in the wild.
And the rank of the starter doesn't depend on your rank in class, its about your performance in the assessment test. For reference, i have five other classmates, including Julia. That also has the same privilege as me.
I hover over the 8th row and look over the available Grookey for taking until i find the one i want to take.

Most, if not all the starter Pokèmon given in the Distribution are wild pokemon. Which are essentially birthed out of nothing in the wilderness..
"Oh... A wise choice. I assume you picked Grookey because of its syngery towards your family's legacy Pokèmon no?"
I simply nodded and locked in my choice, a Pokèball materializing in the PC right in the middle of the stage. I pick it up and go back down., I sit next to Julia to gave me a thumbs up
I give her a thumbs up back and looked at the Pokèball in my hands... My first Pokèmon..
I watch over my peers collect their own partners, while i played with Grookeys Pokèball...
The ceremony finally ended after 2 hours. The closing remarks nearing, i listen to the speech of the headmaster.
"Now, as the law states. This shall be your Starter Pokèmon, I'll repeat this as it's important... It is illegal for any other Pokèmon you own to be of a higher level than your starter."
" This is implemented for those who will receive legacy Pokèmon from their families. It is to avoid said trainers to rely on the strength of their Pokèmon as a crutch to supplement the trainers lacking battle skill."
The skill correspondence law... A law enacted because of the decline of trainer skill due to the over reliance on powerful Pokèmon to win battles.
The law also happen to make the gap between those who have powerful backrounds and the less fortunate..
After the headmaster finished the speech. I slip away from Julia and from the venue to walk to my car.. my servant seeing me, opened the car door and i went inside.
The drive to my home was quick, lasting 5 minutes.. i go inside the mansion and walk to the dining table.. empty, but had an extravagant lunch, also with some Pokèmon food.
I let out the Grookey and it faced me.. tilting its head while looking at me curiously.
I kneel down to its level and i look at it straight and gently
"Hello Grookey.. I'm Shoto, from now on we'll be partners. I'm very exited to grow alongside you, i hope you take care of me.."
I raise a fist to the Grookey and it looks at my hand curiously..
"Gro-o-key?"
"It's a fist bump.. you go like this."
I fist bump myself to show it how it to...
It replies with enthusiastic nods and swiftly bumps my fist, signifying the start of our bond..
" Oh wait... I almost forgot.. Henry!"
Suddenly a gray haired butler appears before me and addressed me.
"Is this about the gift the Master has prepared for you young Master?"
The butler asks in a polite and dignified tone
" You know me so well Henry..."
I turn to Grookey and nodded
" You'll soon see a new team member Grookey!"
" Groo-?"
It tilts its head curiously once again and it's eyes shine as it internalized the information..
While i had been conversing with Grookey, Henry returns with a briefcase.. he opens it in front of me to reveal two eviolites and a Luxury ball in the middle.
"This..."
I approach the briefcase and picked up the luxury ball. And looked at it in awe
"I-I've been looking forward to this for so long!"
The nonchalant eyes of mine suddenly turned passionate and burning.. inside this ball, the Pokèmon i always dreamt of owning... The Pokèmon i looked up to and inspired me.. in this ball, i almost couldn't believe the day has finally come.
"Groo~!"
Sensing my exitement, Grookey also gets fired up and looks at the Luxury Ball exitedly.
My smile widens, and i throw the Pokèball into the air. Shouting out the name that has left my mouth already so many times...
"Come on out .... Honedge!"
