Chapter 3 - CHAPTER THREE

Ashley.

Tyler's friend, Mark, opened the door of the BMW car that they came with and Tyler laid me inside the car.

Mark went over to the driver seat and started the car. Tyler sat with me at the back pacifying me and telling me that everything will be alright as long as he is always with me.

I feel blessed to have him in my life and even taking the bold step of asking him to marry me. Not all ladies will be able to do that.

But I did it anyway to protect my sanity. We arrived at a mansion and my eyes widened in amazement. "Is this where Tyler lives?" I gasped.

He carried me in a bridal style and went into the house. He laid me on the Mahogany bed and I slept off immediately due to exhaustion.

I woke up the next day fully energised and so I used the opportunity to inspect the house and its value, since I will be paying for it.

"Oh, this must be really expensive." I muttered stupefyingly

I shivered when I heard Tyler's voice, "How are you feeling now?" I wasn't expecting to see him and he was literally standing in front of me.

Thank God it was him and not a stranger. Besides, a lot of people might be sharing the house with us.

The two of us can't just be staying in this big house. "I'm feeling better now." I expressed. "Thank you." I met his eyes and gave a nervous laugh.

"You are welcome, anytime." He breathed. I noticed his face flush in embarrassment.

"How much is the rent?" I asked him expecting him to call a lower amount.

"One million dollars." Tyler revealed

I almost fell out of place when he said that. "This is a lot of money. My salary is not even half of that amount. I can show you my account." I confessed, hoping he would understand.

"The thing is, this is my friend's house and he allowed us to stay here for the meantime till we find a place." He narrated. I felt relieved when he said that.

"Alright, no problem." I said with a curved smile on my face.

Later in the day, my mother came visiting and I was surprised to see her at my new home. She was all smiles, and was inspecting the house. Probably, she must have forgiven me.

"Mum, how are you doing?" I asked, gazing at her and waiting for her responses.

"I'm fine, my dear." She replied, as a faint flush tinged her cheeks.

"Where is your husband?" She enquired.

"He went to work." I answered.

"You mean, he went to sell food at the next town" She roared, quizzical brow arched above her left eye.

"Yes mother." I replied. Is there an issue?

"No issues at all." She shrieked. "There is something we need to discuss."

I just hoped she wasn't trying to tell me to divorce my husband for that old thing. I urged her to go on with whatever she wanted to discuss with me.

"Why don't you consider birthing a child? Your father and I need grandchildren." She suggested, a smile spreading over her face.

"Are you serious right now?" I asked, surprised that it was coming from her. My eyes narrowed as I searched her face.

Few days ago, she was hell bent on telling me to divorce Tyler, and now, she needs a child. I don't even know what to believe anymore.

Having a child would be a nice idea but Tyler and I are not financially stable. So the tendency of having a child now wasn't in the picture.

"Mum, we are not ready yet for a child. Besides, this place was given to us by a friend for us to stay here for the meantime." I said soberly.

She scoffed, It's alright. "Do have a rethink because it would be of great help and would do you good."

Tyler.

I had returned from the United Kingdom after so many years. I hurriedly went to my mother's store where she normally sells her food.

Nobody would believe that she was my mother because she sells food and doesn't really dress like someone whose son was a billionaire.

When she saw me, she let me into a tight embrace and then nudged me into getting married since I was eligible to get married.

As for marriage, it was really difficult to see any lady who would love you for who you are. Instead, they pretend and go with the flow when they see that you are swimming in money.

I went into the kitchen to help my mother and within minutes, she was telling me to quit whatever I was doing to come sit with a long time friend.

If being anxious was a person, it would be me. I was eager to know who this friend was and got flabbergasted when I saw it was no other person but Ashley.

I went over to sit with her and we exchanged pleasantries. She narrated her ordeal to me and pleaded with me to get married to her so she could escape getting married to someone she doesn't want in her life.

I wondered if my mum had told her about my financial status. After giving it a thought, I agreed to do it for her sake.

I was surprised to see her call. I hurried to her place immediately after the call and I met her supposed parents at the door.

They asked me who I was looking for and I told them that I came to take my wife. I presented to them a parcel that contained some dollars.

I was surprised that they told me that she wasn't around. And that was when I believed wholly what Ashley had been telling me.

I heard Ashley scream my name and I knew she was inside. I pushed my way into the house and let her out.

At home, Ashley asked me about the worth of the rent. I couldn't bring myself to tell her that it was my mansion. I wanted to keep my financial status a secret and I lied to her about my friend giving us his place to stay for the meantime.

I wanted to know if she truly loves me for who I am without having any notion that I'm a billionaire. I just wanted the feelings to be borne out of love.
