Ashley.
Today is my wedding day and I'm beyond thrilled to be getting married to the love of my love.
I had arrived earlier than my would-be-husband, Robinson. I went to an empty seat where I lay my butt to wait for him before the registrar walked in. Although I was anxious.
I was jittering happily with the flowers that were enclosed in my hands. Robinson walked in after an hour. I walked excitedly towards him but the energy he gave doesn't seem to be normal at all.
Probably he must have been sad for arriving late for our wedding, but I don't mind. As long as we would spend our lives together as one.
"You finally arrived, I have been waiting patiently for you." I said, feeling euphoric as my hands took hold of his.
Withdrawing his hands from mine, he said, "I need to tell you something." I could feel the uneasiness in his voice.
"What is the matter? Hope you are okay?" I asked as I cradled his face in my hands..
"I…I…" he stammered.
"Talk to me, I'm your wi…." I was interrupted by my best friend, Silver as soon as she badged into the registry.
"He is mine and not yours." She hissed, pushing the blond hair back from her eyes.
"You are joking right?" I asked, my teeth glinting in a friendly smile.
"Do I look like a joke to you?" She thundered in a deep voice that seemed to vibrate along her nerves.
"I don't understand you Silver, you are supposed to be my chief bride's maid. Now you are saying something else." I hesitated, baffled.
"What part of English don't you understand? Silver asked, exasperation in her voice. Robinson is getting married to me.
"The both of you ain't even close nor lovers. So it's not possible." I spat. She came closer clutching Robinson's arm. They tilted their head to each other as they both smiled at one another. "Should we tell her the truth?"
"Everything she said is the truth." Robinson admitted, trying to sound genuine. I was taken aback, tears were about to flow but I controlled it from showing itself.
"You guys betrayed me." I yelled. "How on earth would you do this to your best friend?"
"You don't expect me to be without a man. Besides, he loves me and not you. You failed to see that." Silver huffed as she approached me.
I gazed down into her eyes, "you are pitiful, wicked and a shame to the female folks." His palm connected with my cheek, the sound echoing through the room.
My hand shot out, clasping with her cheek in a sharp crack. Her head snapped to the side, her eyes wide with shock as she stumbled backwards, clutching her face.
Robinson sprawled in between the both of us and I glared at him.
You were going to be with an old man your parents arranged for you. Why can't you deal with that? Silver puffed, her face crinkling in annoyance.
My heart broke into pieces as I left the registry with my bag. I went to a building close by and allowed the tears to flow like a river.
My parents had arranged me with an old man, old enough to be my father just for hundred million dollars. It's heartbreaking.
I thought of what to do and where to go from here because my life at this point is a mess. I stood up, dusted myself and walked along the road having nowhere to go in mind.
As I walked, I bumped into Mrs. Clara, and she wrapped her hands around me in a tight embrace. "My child, it's been a while. How have you been and where are you headed to."
I couldn't control the tears that came trickling down my cheeks. "Why are you crying, is everything alright?"
"Nothing is fine with me. I was supposed to get married today but I received the greatest shock of my life that I won't be getting married to the man of my dreams."
"My best friend who was to be the chief bride's maid betrayed me and took my man." I said, as tears welled into my eyes uncontrollably.
"It's okay my child, wipe your tears. Everything will be fine and fall in place in due time." Mrs. Clara offered, trying so hard to pacify me.
"Okay ma'am."
"My son just came in. Let me call him for you."
"You mean Tyler?" I asked, curiosity wearing me like a crown.
"Yes dear. Tyler Tyler." Mrs Clara called out on top of her voice.
"Yes mummy." Tyler answered, as he popped his head out of the small opening that served as a window. I was surprised to see him after a very long time. We stared at each other for a brief moment but not without a sweet smile.
"Your friend Ashley came here not quite long. Come and keep her company so that I can finish up what I was doing." Mrs Clara demanded politely.
Mrs. Clara got up and Tyler came to sit with me. He was wearing an apron and he looked dashing. I inhaled his scent as it flowed through my lungs.
"How are you doing?" He asked.
"I'm not really fine." I said, gazing at him with so much admiration in my eyes.
"You look good and refreshing." I complimented and a blush popped on his cheeks.
"What happened?" He asked and I narrated everything to him without failing to mention the forbidden.
"Will you do me a favor by getting married to me?" I pleaded. "Please do this for me and save me from marrying that old fool."
He opened his mouth to talk but I interrupted him in the process, "Do not worry about anything. I will provide everything and that includes the place we would live too."
I noticed that he was still wearing the fancy clip that I gave him years back when we were kids.
"He still wears that." I muttered within me as I reminisced about our moment together as playful pals.
I waited for his response wondering what it would be. If it's a YES or a NO.
