Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Creating Bonds

Jenn's POV

I almost froze in the kitchen when I heard his confession.

"What do you mean, you like me?" I asked, my voice slightly raised in disbelief. "We've just met—twice—and not even properly. Please don't think I'm stupid," I added aggressively.

"Kainaat, try to understand," he said calmly. "I don't know why I'm so interested in you. I've never felt this way about any girl. I don't even know you properly yet, but there's something about you that keeps pulling me in. I'm not asking for an answer right now, but at least trust me—as a friend."

"But I can't even trust you as a friend," I replied. "It's just been two quick meetings, Andres."

He looked into my eyes, his tone soft but serious. "I know, Kainaat. But please, let's meet a few more times. If you still don't want anything to do with me after that, I promise I won't bother you again."

I didn't say anything. I turned back and resumed cooking.

"I'll go check on Jas. You can sit in the living room," I said, heading toward Jas's room.

"Jas, are you done? Can you come out now?" I called out.

"Yes, Jenn, just a second. Okay Mom, I'll call you back," she said, hanging up the call.

I immediately pinched her cheeks. "Why did you ask him to come up?" I scolded her.

"Oh, shut up, Jenn. That guy is too handsome to ignore. If you don't want him, I'll gladly take him," she added with a mischievous smirk.

"Yeah, you wish," I muttered.

"Ooh, someone's jealous now," she teased, wrapping her arms around me.

We both laughed and walked back into the living room, where Andres was sitting. He looked a little sad—I hadn't replied to his request yet.

I went back to the kitchen, plated the food, and brought it out. We all sat down for dinner. For some reason, I didn't like seeing that sad expression on his face.

"Okay, so where are you taking us tomorrow, Andres?" I asked, flashing a smile.

I could see his face light up instantly.

"I know so many places! Just let me know when I can pick you up," he replied eagerly.

"Oh wait—Jenn wakes up late," Jas jumped in. "You can come around 12."

We finished our dinner. Andres even helped me with the dishes—unlike Jas, who was still sprawled on the sofa, enjoying something on TV.

"Okay, I'll leave now. Thank you for the coffee and dinner," Andres said as he headed toward the door.

"You're welcome," I replied.

He said goodbye to Jas and left.

I returned to Jas, and we started our usual late-night gossip session. But deep down, my heart was still racing from what he had said. I was smiling. Blushing, even. I wanted to tell Jas everything—but something inside me said to wait. Maybe I'll share it once I feel a little more comfortable around him.

Will I be able to create any bond with him? I wondered.
