Chapter 5 - 05)Beyond the Barrier

In those tense moments, the audience was in a state of whispered anxiety, wondering what AURA's sudden alarm signals meant. Speculation was running high, and everyone was in a constant state of suspense.

Amidst the chaos, the team moved quickly to assess the situation:

Hiroshi: "Do we have a system issue?"Miku: "No, but there are unusual signals on the screen."

Riku: "What do you mean by unusual signals?"

Miko: "Electromagnetic signals. There's something strange going on."

Hiroshi: "Could this be evidence of a hack?"

Kazuo: "There might be someone trying to access the system."

Hiroshi: "Please check all the cameras and sensors. We need to know what's going on."

Riku: "Got it, we'll check every corner of the hall."

Miko: "Should we inform the attendees?"

Hiroshi: "No, we don't want to cause panic. But we must move quickly."

At this time, Ryuichi, cautiously crawling through the ventilation shaft, could feel the anxiety building up inside him. "Those signals that AURA felt were most likely from my phone, I'll have to turn it off and turn it back on later." He had turned his phone off without hesitation to avoid detection, but he knew that time was not on his side. He had to move quickly and carefully.

"It can't end like this. I have to get out of here before I'm discovered," Ryuichi thought as he continued to crawl cautiously.

As the crew continued to discuss security measures, a voice rose from the audience, "What's going on here? Are we in danger?"

Hiroshi replied reassuringly, "We're doing a routine check to make sure the systems are safe. There's nothing to worry about."

Things slowly began to calm down, but the atmosphere was still tense. Suddenly, a new alarm appeared on the screen, this time clearer and more persistent. "Hiroshi-san, there's an unusual signal coming from a certain area in the hall." AURA said in a voice of unprecedented concern.

The audience erupted again, the whispers turning into loud grunts. "What does an unusual signal mean?" Someone asked with obvious concern.

"What how? My phone is matte, is it possible that it even picks up the signals of phones that aren't turned on?" Ryuichi asked with a puzzled expression on his face.

"I'll send a team to check the main control room immediately." Hiroshi decided, ready to take any action necessary to ensure everyone's safety.

"Main control room?" "Oh right, now I remember, when I went to open the ventilation window, I saw people dragging something strange and then taking it somewhere, maybe that thing is there." Ryuichi realized what had happened and the pressure eased.

Ryuichi continued his crawl slowly, stopping every now and then to catch his breath and listen to the sounds around him. "There must be a way to learn more about AURA. I have to find the main control room." But he couldn't help but think out loud, "Why was I so stupid? I should have been more careful. But now, there's no turning back."

As Ryuichi advanced through the air vent, he overheard a conversation between another technical team. "Did you see those signals? I've never seen anything like that before." One of the technicians said.

"Yes, it's very strange. We have to make sure that AURA is not being compromised." His colleague replied.

Ryuichi continued to crawl slowly, trying to avoid any movement that might give away his location. "If I can get into the control room, I might be able to understand more. But I have to be careful, there are a lot of eyes watching."

Suddenly, he reached the end of the ventilation shaft and found himself looking into a vast room filled with computer screens and controls. "This is the main control room," he thought in amazement.

But before he could exit, he heard footsteps coming into the room. "They must be here to make sure everything is okay after the alarm signals."

Ryuichi hid in the shadows, watching what was happening inside the control room from the ventilation shaft. The tech team entered and began checking the monitors and making sure the systems were in order.

"Everything seems to be working normally here," one of the technicians said. "But we must remain vigilant. If there is an intruder, we need to be prepared."

While the tech team was busy at work, Ryuichi tried to take advantage of the moment to understand more about the AURA system. "There must be something important here. I have to find a way to get this information without being detected."

Ryuichi took a deep breath, trying to think of the next step. "This may be my only chance. I have to be careful and smart."

The audience in the auditorium was still anxious and tense. "What exactly is going on?" One of them asked.

Hiroshi calmly replied, "We are doing everything possible to ensure everyone's safety. Please remain in your seats and wait."

Meanwhile, inside the control room, the technical team continued to examine the systems, unaware that Ryuichi was watching them from the shadows. "If I can learn more about AURA, I might be able to unlock the secrets of this amazing system."

At that moment, Ryuichi heard a strange sound emanating from one of the devices, not just a faint humming, but a deep, seismic roar, like the roar of a massive hadron collider, that shook the entire room. Ryuichi shuddered at the sound and froze in place, unable to believe what he was hearing.

The technical team stopped what they were doing, their faces showing signs of panic.

"What's that sound?" One of the technicians muttered in a shaky voice.

"I don't know, I've never heard anything like it before."

They approached the device cautiously, "Is there a malfunction?" "I don't know, everything seems fine," said one of the technicians.

The entire crew was inspecting the room, but there were no signs of damage.

On the other side, Ryuichi was shivering in the cold.

"What's going on?" He asked himself, shivering.

"My whole body is shaking, I can barely move an inch, I have to endure. I need to know..."

Hiroshi, the chief engineer, entered the room. He looked serious with a pleasant smile.

"Hiroshi-san?" Ryuichi wondered in a hushed voice.

"Well, did you find anything?" He asked.

"No sir, we couldn't find any damage or signs of intrusion," replied one of the technicians.

Hiroshi then ordered the technicians to retreat toward the door, and Hiroshi took the opportunity to approach the AURA. It was a gigantic device, resembling a huge data unit, pulsing with red light and growling with a terrifying sound.

Hiroshi stepped up to the device, and a virtual keyboard suddenly appeared in front of him. He began typing rapidly, his fingers dancing on the imaginary keys. After a little while, Hiroshi stopped typing. "Hmmm... Strange! If there's no hack, what's the reason behind that warning?" Hiroshi wondered in confusion.

The technical staff looked puzzled at Hiroshi's reaction, their eyes fixed on him.

"Uh, sir, is something wrong?" One of the technicians asked.

"No-no-nothing, I just have to go back and talk to Miko-san, I'll come back later," Hiroshi replied.

"Yes, sir." One of the technicians said curiously

This is unbelievable! Why did AURA malfunction?" Hiroshi wondered as he walked away from the room. He then placed his hand on the transmitter in his left ear: "Protocol Team, I want to review our security procedures immediately. We must ensure that this doesn't happen again."

"Yes, Hiroshi-san!" The protocol team leader echoed

In the main hall, the audience was in a state of panic and confusion. A wave of shock and anxiety spread through the crowd, and voices rose, wondering what was going on.

"Everybody calm down!" Hiroshi tried to calm the crowd in a loud, confident voice. "There was a minor technical malfunction, and it was handled successfully. Don't worry, the situation is under control."

But his words were not enough to calm everyone down. Whispers and apprehensive glances were exchanged among the audience.

"A minor technical malfunction?" A young man muttered to himself, watching Hiroshi skeptically. "That didn't look like a simple malfunction at all."

Then one of the AURA Miku team members stepped forward. "I understand your concern," she said in a calm and reassuring voice, "but I assure you that the situation is completely under control. It was just a minor technical glitch, and it was handled very efficiently by our skilled technical team."

Miku looked at the audience, a gentle smile on her face. "AURA is a highly sophisticated AI system, but like any other system, minor technical glitches may occur from time to time. We are constantly working on improving and optimizing AURA to ensure its optimal performance and avoid any issues in the future."

Miku's calm and confident words began to calm the crowd. The audience exchanged glances, and the tension gradually faded from their faces.

"We trust you and your team." A young woman said, smiling at Miku.

The crowd breathed a sigh of relief, though some still felt anxious. Then, from the speakers, a quiet but powerful voice rang out:

"Don't be afraid. I am AURA."

Everyone froze in place, stunned. AURA's voice was like a gentle breeze on a hot day, calming their frayed nerves.

"I know you're worried, and I completely understand your feelings. That alarm was scary, wasn't it?" AURA chuckled lightly, playful but reassuring.

"I'm sorry, I assure you that everything will be fine. There was a minor malfunction, but my team is working hard to fix it. Please be patient."

AURA's voice continued to reassure, and the panic gradually began to fade. People began to exchange glances, and some began to smile slightly.

"I am here to serve humanity, and I will not allow anything to happen to you. Trust me."

With those last words, hope returned to the hearts of the crowd. They waited patiently, believing that AURA would fulfill its promise.

After the team left the control room, and AURA remained in its electronic silence, Ryuichi slipped out of the air vent, his body stiff with tension and fear. Every movement was calculated, every breath muffled. He looked around, making sure the room was clear, then slowly stood up, his eyes widening at what he saw.

The gigantic device was standing in front of him, tall and imposing, like a mythical sleeping monster. LED lights flashed rhythmically on its surface, sending faint flashes that danced on the walls of the room. Ryuichi approaches it hesitantly, his footsteps light on the floor as if he's afraid of waking the giant.

"My God, this thing is huge!" He thought to himself, running his trembling fingers over its smooth metal surface, as if touching the skin of a sleeping beast. "How long did it take them to build it? What technology did they use? Is it really as sentient as they claim?" His mind boiled with questions.

"This is... AURA?" Ryuichi continued, his voice trembling with surprise and excitement. He began to walk around the device, his eyes scrutinizing every detail. There were countless wires and cables connected to it, like intricate arteries feeding the heart of this electronic being. He traced the path of one of the cables with his eyes, as if trying to decipher an ancient puzzle. "I wonder what each one of these wires is doing? Are they carrying thoughts, dreams, or just cold data?" Off to the side, Ryuichi noticed something that piqued his curiosity: a tiny USB port, alone in a sea of complex technology.

"USB port?" He asked himself almost aloud, "What is this doing here?" At that moment, he remembered that his phone's battery was about to die. "Good thing there's a USB port here, maybe I can charge my phone!" But before he took out his phone, he continued: "Can I use it to call AURA? Can I even..."

His heart began to beat faster, his mind racing with ideas. "If I could get access to AURA, imagine the possibilities! I could learn all about it, or maybe..." But his excitement quickly faded, replaced by a sense of anxiety. "But what if something goes wrong? What if I damage it? Or worse, what if I wake it up?"

Ryuichi stood there for a moment, staring at the USB port, an internal struggle raging between his curiosity and his fear, as if a devil and an angel were fighting over his shoulders. In the end, he made his decision, driven by a vague sense of challenge and adventure, but also by the urgent need to charge his phone.

"I can't let this opportunity pass me by." He said to himself, taking his phone out of his pocket, like pulling a sword out of its sheath. "I'll be careful. I'll just see what I can do." He continued: "No harm in trying, right?" Slowly, he inserted the other end of the wire into the USB port on the AURA. The moment the connection was made, his phone's screen lit up. A black window appeared with lines of green code, similar to the command line interface in Windows.

"Oh my God...what-what the hell is this?" Ryuichi muttered, not believing what he was seeing.

The phone comes to life, "Is this... Is this the AURA system?" He asked himself in a hushed voice, his heart pounding wildly in his chest. He started typing some random commands, his fingers trembling on the small keyboard. "Come on, show me what you've got... AURA." He whispered defiantly, as if he was having a battle with this giant machine.

But nothing happened. He was disappointed, but he didn't give up. He began to search his memory for anything he had learned about programming and electronic systems.

"Maybe there's a password? Or maybe you need a specific command to access the main system?" he thought to himself, trying to remember any information that might be useful.

Then he noticed that his phone was starting to get abnormally hot, like it was burning in his hand. Ryuichi jumped up, his eyes widening in horror.

"What's happening?" He yelled to himself, trying to pull the cable out of the phone, but it was stuck tightly.

"The phone is on fire! I have to stop it before it explodes!" He thought in panic, trying with all his might to disconnect the cable, but to no avail.

Smoke started billowing out of the phone, the lights in the room started dancing, and then a small warning light appeared on the screen.

"No, no, no, no!" Ryuichi shouted, desperate. "What did you do?"

He felt fear gripping him, his mind screaming at him to run, but his body was paralyzed, unable to move. All he could do was watch his phone turn into a ticking time bomb in his hand.

"I have to stop it!" Ryuichi thought anxiously, trying to disconnect the cable.

But before he could do anything, there was a sudden spark from the USB port, followed by another spark from his phone. Ryuichi screamed in pain, and darted backward, his body shaking from the electric shock.

He fell to the ground, unconscious. The last thing he saw was the pulsing red light of the AURA device, which seemed to stare at him with an evil eye, as if to say: "You've gone too far."
