Chapter 8 - A General Or A Pervert?

Kelsey's POV

First, it was the kiss I was forced to give him on the cheek. Second, it's him appearing in my room in a towel, with wet hair and a stupidly perfect body. His abs are so hard and attractive.

I swear, I wanted to touch them but I'm no pervert.

Now, his heavy body is pressed against mine. To make it worse, my daughter had seen us in this awkward position.

How on earth am I supposed to cope with this man I'm to live with for a whole fucking year?

Screw that!

There's no way I'm going to let him win. How I was able to overpower him and remain on top of him, I have no idea.

After my warning, I noticed his hand on my waist, as if he was worried I would fall off his body. My hands were on his abs I've been wanting to touch. His body is so warm and dreamy. Seems like God spent days creating such a perfect being.

His hands left my waist as he signed at me to get off his body.

Fuck me. I didn't realise I was on him.

I stood up from him and he rushed into the bathroom. I wore my shirt back, and he walked into the room with his head low.

There's that pitiful look again. The one that makes him look like a cat.

"I'm sorry ma'am, I thought I was supposed to be here," he signed.

It's obviously not his fault. Lila must have led him to the wrong room.

"It's fine. Just move to the room after Lila's. Your luggage has been moved in already," I said to him, and he nodded.

He thanked me and turned to leave.

I can't let him stay here. My eyes travelled to the document on the table.

He didn't go through it, did he?

He's mute. What could he possibly do?

The door slammed shut and I swiftly locked it from behind before undressing again.

I took a quick shower and returned to the room.

While blow-drying my wet hair, my phone dinged. I turned off the dryer and raised my phone to look at the notification. It was a message from a company. The company where my father had arranged a job for me.

'Hello, Miss Kelsey Prescott; this is to inform you that you have passed the online screening and have hereby been offered a job as a journalist at the Buzz Bulletin Company. Please do well to report to the company to finalise your contract on Monday. Thank you!'

Screening?

I never did an online screening. It's definitely Dad's influence. I'm given a job as a reporter and... How is he even sure I can be able to do it well?

I sighed deeply after realising that Monday was in two days. I'll have to get ready for work on Monday.

I haven't started the job yet, but I'm feeling so weak and tired. It's too late to give up. If I don't do what my father wants. He'll take Lila with him.

The company I'm to work in is not far from the private military company. My father allowed me to work here because members of the military company often get interviewed by this company.

It was even said to be in partnership with the military company.

A friend of my father owned it.

If I get close to an officer through the company, I don't have to use Lila anymore.

That seems like a relief, but I can only hope for the best.

I finished drying my hair and went to sleep.

.

.

The next morning... It was Sunday. I wasn't able to sleep properly so I chose to go for a quick run. As soon as I stepped foot outside the house, Sylus was outside the compound as if he were waiting for me.

"Greetings Miss," he said.

I gave him a quick nod, scrolling through my phone for a workout song, but he followed me.

I stopped and flashed him a hard glare.

"I'm not running away, so stop following me!"

"I only want to do my job. Please, let me," he said, with a serious expression on his face.

"No. If you want to protect anyone, stay here and protect my daughter," I turned to leave but he appeared in front of me again.

"Is it because of that stranger? Miss, if you don't trust him with the young miss, then throw him out of the house,"

"One word about him again, I'll hit you myself, Sylus. He's not just a guest here; he's Lila's father," I said, wearing my headphones before running out of the compound. I felt his gaze on me, but I ignored him.

I walked past the gate and after running for over five minutes, there were other people other than me. Women, men... All muscular and in great shape.

Of course, this is like a military base.

Even their uniform was proof. Some were even in groups, jogging together.

No one noticed me. It was as if I was invincible. A lady with no muscle would look like a weakling to them.

I turned away from them and looked at the time. It's been one hour since I left the house. Lila and her father... I mean, Landon must have woken up already.

I have to go prepare breakfast for them. I turned around and just as I was about to leave, I bumped into someone. No, the person bumped into me.

He was stronger than me, so I ended up crashing my ass to the ground.

I grunted as I remained on the ground.

"I'm so sorry..." His voice came out soft and caring. I raised my head to look at him, but the sun almost blinded me. He stretched his hand towards me and he pulled me up.

"I'm really sorry," he repeated himself.

"Uhm, it's fine," I replied, waving my hand. He sighed in relief when he saw I was okay.

God! He's fucking handsome. Is that company grooming handsome men or something? How can everyone I've met today be so fit, handsome and almost perfect?

"Are you alright?" His voice snapped me back to reality, and I nodded with a smile.

"Yes. Yes, I am."

"I haven't seen you here before. You must be new," he then began a conversation. He's trying to flirt with me, which was annoyingly disgusting.

"Yeah, I'm part of the normal resident," I replied, plainly.

"Hoping to become part of the military?" He asked, with a charming smile.

Oh God! Not the smile.

"No. I'm just a normal person. I don't think I can become part of the... military," I replied and he nodded his head.

"You seem fit. I've met a lot of people like you. Are you scared of the Marshal?" He asked and I immediately kept quiet. What the hell is he talking about?

"How can I be scared of someone I've never met?" I asked and he leaned closer.

"Don't look shocked that you didn't get what you want. Didn't you bump into me on purpose? I'm sorry, I have no interest in you. I have a kid. Understood?" He said.

I blinked in confusion, wondering what he was talking about.

"However, you're hot and beautiful. I could give you my number for grabbing my attention," he said.

This fucker!

Who the hell does he think he is?

Suddenly, a man in uniform rushed towards the man I was talking to.

"General. I've been looking everywhere for you," he said, handing him a towel. The guy took it from me, dabbed his sweat on his forehead, and looked back at me.

"Is there an issue?"

"The Marshal has requested for a brief meeting in a few hours."

"That invincible bastard? What does he want this time? Tsk! I'll be there," he smacked his lips and looked back at me before forcing his towel into my hands.

"It's a gift. Keep it!" He turned to leave and waved me goodbye without staring back at me.

"Who the fuck was that pervert?" I mumbled. Staring at the towel one more time, I threw it on the floor and walked away.

However, it took me a while to realise that I shouldn't have tossed that towel.
