Emma's POV:
I woke up on the floor feeling drugged. I sat upright and jogged my head. I still felt light-headed. Immediately the memory of what happened came back to me and I began to touch my body to see if anything was amiss. Not that I lost my arms or anything.
"What happened?" I thought. I checked the time on my phone. 6:20am. "Oh no! Mom's gonna be worried. And I'm so darn late for school. I stood up quickly and then rushed back home.
"Emma, where have have you been?" My mom-Eveyln- asked as soon as I entered the kitchen. "I've been so worried." Right I knew that.
"I was in the park." I replied as I dropped my phone on the coffee table.
"Since 5am? Doing what?" Mom asked still not satisfied with my reply.
"I was doing stretches." I said not sure if she would buy it. I didn't want to tell mom what happened to me at the park. Yet. Knowing her, she would freak out and take me to a doctor. Mom wanted to ask more questions but then I spoke up immediately.
"Mom, I'm going to go freshen up. I'm already late for school."
Within minutes, I was done and came back downstairs. I checked the time on my phone. 7:20am.
"Mom, I'm leaving. I'm already late." I said picking up my phone from the coffee table and began to leave.
"Won't you eat anything?"
"No! No time." I shouted as I made way for the door.
"Teens." Mom shrugged.
"Hi Emma." Natalie said walking up to me in the school hallway. I held open one end of my locker door and turned right in the direction of the voice.
"Hi Natalie. Today you're in school so late, or where you here ever since?" I asked putting a book in my locker. Natalie wasn't one to come to school late.
"I've been here. I didn't see you in class so I decided to come check for you." Natalie said.
"Awwwn. What a bestie." I said closing my locker.
Natalie laughed. "Are u done? Let's go. It's time for class."
"Yes." I said. "Oh no wait I forgot my Chemistry textbook."
"Silly you." Natalie said and I smiled. There is nothing silly about me miss.
I brought out my index finger to press the locker button, a sudden green spark emitted from it onto the button causing it to spark and go poof I guess. The locker doors opened with a slight creak. Natalie had shock written all over her face while me, still mesmerized looked around to see if anyone else apart from Natalie saw. Good thing the hallway was deserted. Then I gulped. Real hard.
"Emma.....what the...." Natalie tried to speak.
"I don't know any of this, or how it happened I swear." I said trying to explain myself.
"Then how.....how did you?" Natalie asked still stammering.
I then explained to her what had happened to me in the morning. Natalie then calmed down. Which is surprising though.....
"Please don't tell anyone about this." I pleaded. "Even my mom doesn't know anything. At least until I find out what's wrong."
"Ok. I won't tell her." Natalie said and I heaved a sigh of relief. "Get your textbook let's go to class."
I hurriedly grabbed my textbooks and closed the locker. Then I followed Natalie straight to class. As we were walking on the hallway, we saw Principal Mullins coming straight for us. She looked mad. Real mad.
"Oh no." Natalie said. We weren't meant to be in the hallway.
"This is bad. I just wish she would turn left and wouldn't come near us." I said subconsciously. And as if my wish was being granted, Principal Mullins turned left towards the cafeteria as if she didn't see us coming at all. Normally she would give that student detention but today.....
Natalie's eyes widened. She had heard what I said. I was shocked too. We stopped moving.
"Emma, how did you....?" She wanted to ask. Who wouldn't. One minute Principal Mullins was charging straight for us like a bull with no horn and the next...she's gone as if she never saw us.
"Shut up. I just told you now, I don't know what's wrong with me. Now let's get to class." I said dragging Natalie along.
"You're late." Our teacher said when we arrived.
"Sorry sir." We mumbled and walked in.
During basketball practice, Natalie and I were put as acting home team. After some time, A girl named Sam threw the ball off course and it rolled into the bathroom. Everyone stopped playing and looked at her.
"Sam." Natalie said.
"Sorry." She said raising her hands in surrender.
The coach blew the whistle and gestured towards the bathroom. "I'll get it." I offered. Not like anyone wanted to get it actually.
I ran into the bathroom and spotted the ball at the far end of the wall, so I moved towards it to pick up and then it happened again. Another spark from my finger and the ball was deflated like a squashed pumpkin.
"No! Darn it." I said. "What am I gonna tell them now." I picked up the ball and left the bathroom. I'm in a really big mess now. Everyone was shocked to see a deflated ball.
"What happened?" Coach asked but there was a distinct edge to his voice.
"I don't really know sir, I saw the ball deflated when I entered." I replied with a shaky voice. What kind of stupid lie was that. Natalie's eyes were on me the whole time. Of course she knew that was a stupid lie. Who would believe that.
"But..." Coach was speechless. He blew his whistle again. "Practice over guys. Come back tomorrow." Poor coach. He probably thinks I did that on purpose now.
Everyone began to leave, Natalie knew otherwise. "It's a good thing you deflated that ball Em." Sam said as we were leaving. Of course they'd think I deflated the ball. "I didn't bring my A-game with me today. I was soo confused."
I rolled my eyes. She doesn't even know how to play. "You don't even know how to play. Talk more of an A-game." But of course she pretended as if she didn't hear me.
"Was it you or did that ball actually deflate?" Natalie asked me on our way home from school. I sighed.
"It was me. That same spark again." I replied but Natalie didn't say anything.
"What's happening to me Natalie? All because of that stupid gem." I said. I wanted to cry, what was wrong with me?
"Don't worry Em. I'm here for you." Natalie said holding my hand squeezing it real tight.
