"If possible, I'd like all of you to keep this a secret," Joey said, expressing his wish.
No one in the house objected. None of them were the type to gossip.
Still, over time, Bisky picked up on subtle hints that the life-rich Specialist aura Joey was using wasn't actually his own.
This discovery had stunned her. Once she heard about Wing, her interest in Joey intensified dramatically.
The way she looked at him afterward—it was like a prospector who cracked open raw jade and discovered imperial green.
The hungry gleam of greed and curiosity in her deep eyes made Joey inwardly scream in distress.
Killua and Gon? They could barely hold back their laughter. They'd experienced Bisky's "training" firsthand.
But because the aura didn't belong to Joey himself, Bisky began to reassess his determination. This wasn't just dedication—it was bull-headed obsession.
No wonder a Conjurer's best friend is an Emitter.
By midnight, Joey finally called it quits. His condition wasn't fit to continue, and he realized he'd basically slept an entire day away.
Bisky had actually arrived the night before—brought in by Palm.
Instead of going back to his room to sleep, Joey took a shower and returned to the living room with his bedding. Bisky then summoned her ability, "Magical Beautician Cookie-chan", and gave him a full-body massage. Only then did he finally collapse into sleep.
Of course, that massage wasn't something he had the nerve to request. It was part of Bisky's investment in him.
After seeing Joey's potential, Bisky straight-up told him she was going to invest in him.
Her bluntness made Joey feel... seen. So without hesitation, he accepted.
As for what return she expected on her investment, Joey wasn't exactly sure. Maybe friendship. Maybe future assistance.
But truthfully, just as Bisky was investing in him, he was also investing in Bisky.
This was mutual benefit. A win-win.
Cookie-chan's massages cleared away Joey's fatigue, allowing him to redirect his energy fully into Nen training.
And Bisky didn't go easy on him—she immediately laid out a rigorous foundational training regimen.
As for the wallet, Joey kept it close at all times. Even in his sleep, its life-rich aura continued flowing into him.
While he rested, Killua and Gon were still grinding their Ren practice.
According to Bisky, they needed to hold Ren for at least three hours if they wanted to be worthy opponents of Knuckle.
Normally, improving Ren stamina by ten minutes would take an entire month of training.
To go from one hour to three? That would take twelve months.
That's where Bisky's unique skill came into play. Cookie-chan could compress eight hours of sleep into thirty minutes.
This let them reset quickly and jump straight into the next round of training—squeezing every second out of each day.
Of course, talent still played a massive role. No matter how efficient the training, a person's innate potential couldn't be rushed. Nen quantity didn't magically increase overnight.
And without enough Nen reserves, sustaining Ren for long periods just wasn't possible.
After his half-hour rest, Joey sat up and watched Killua and Gon.
According to Kite's "quantification" approach to aura:
Maintaining Ten consumed around 1–2 aura units per second.
But Killua and Gon, even during Ren, only burned 1 aura unit per second.
During Ten, they seemed to consume nothing.
Joey realized it was due to their monstrous physical stamina.
He came to a simple conclusion: He needed to bulk up.
Since his Nen had already awakened, improving his body would cause a massive surge in his aura reserves.
And the most effective way to do that? Weight training.
Unfortunately, there weren't many tools around. Shaking his head, Joey began his next round of Nen emission practice.
Although his ultimate goal was to complete Gold Experience, simply releasing Nen repeatedly was also great training for Ten and Ren.
His days soon fell into a strict rhythm: Train, eat, massage, train, massage, eat, repeat...
Until on the third day of his stay in town—
His phone rang. It was Shipin.
Moro has fulfilled his promise.
For a moment, Joey froze, his breath catching in his throat.
He knew exactly what this meant.
Turning sharply, he shouted toward the back, "Killua! Gon! Kite is back!"
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the two boys were at his sides, lifting him effortlessly as the scenery blurred around them.
At the NGL checkpoint, the three jumped down from a truck and saw Shipin pushing a wheelchair.
In it sat Kite.
His body was swathed in bandages. One arm missing. One leg gone. Even one eye was covered with gauze.
But despite everything, his presence still radiated strength. When he saw the trio, his lips curled into a faint, rare smile.
"Kite!" Gon ran to him, tears streaming down his face.
Joey met Kite's eyes and gave a solemn nod before glancing around. He didn't see Moro or the others.
"She's called Neferpitou—a powerful one," Kite said, naming the Chimera Ant who took his limbs. "This time... it was my mistake."
"No, Kite. We were too weak!" Killua's voice trembled with frustration. "If not for us—"
Kite shook his head. "I wasn't her match. Even without you there, it wouldn't have ended any better."
Then his gaze drifted to Joey's missing hand. "This time, it's thanks to Joey's ability—and that map. Without those... I probably wouldn't be alive."
On the ride back, Kite told them the story of his survival.
It was surprisingly simple.
After Joey's hand was severed, the Heartpiercer attack went berserk. Just touching it—just being near it—caused massive explosions.
Strangely, the blasts were even more powerful than when Joey had controlled it.
Almost like it held an infinite reservoir of aura.
Kite slowly realized that the War Chariot wasn't just a beast—it was a vow. A restriction.
The explosions weren't coming from stored Nen.
They were the result of a condition being fulfilled.
And seeing Joey's missing hand now... Kite finally understood.
That condition was Joey's severed hand.
Back then, without knowing this, Kite had quickly deduced three possible ways to deal with the runaway Chariot:
Kill its user—Joey.
Completely destroy it.
Use Exorcism to remove its Nen.
