Chapter 3 - Kragmar Plains

Dawnfyr stood in the shadow of a jagged outcrop, the sun dipping low over the Kragmar Plains. It had been weeks since Marcus first logged into YGGDRASIL, and the initial thrill of the game hadn't dulled one bit. What had dulled, however, was his patience with how slow leveling up had become.

Another wolf snarled from the edge of the clearing, its hackles raised. It was the lone survivor of the pack Dawnfyr had just dismantled, its smaller frame trembling as it circled him, hoping for an opening.

"You're not gonna make this easy, are you?" Dawnfyr muttered, flexing his fingers around the hilt of Crimson Fang. He'd gotten used to the sword's weight over the past few weeks, but it still irked him. A smaller, lighter weapon would've been much more his speed, but given his ogre build, there weren't many better options for raw power.

The wolf lunged, its fangs glinting in the fading light. Dawnfyr stepped forward, meeting it mid-charge with a devastating swing. The blow was clean, sending the creature tumbling to the ground. It let out one last whimper before falling still.

Experience Gained: 400 XP

A small chime rang in his head, and another message popped up:

Level Up: 4 -> 5

Finally. It had taken weeks—weeks of hunting, grinding, and exploring—to reach this point. Dawnfyr straightened up, letting out a tired sigh as he sheathed his sword. His shoulders ached, his fingers twitched from the hours of combat, and yet he couldn't stop the small grin that crept across his face.

"Slow and steady wins the race, huh?" he said, gazing at his stats screen. His progress felt hard-earned, each level a result of careful planning and relentless effort. For every dire wolf and rock troll he'd bested, he'd gained not only experience points but also a deeper understanding of the game's mechanics.

Still, Marcus couldn't ignore the fact that his progress wasn't as fast as he'd hoped. His experience bar crawled upward at a snail's pace now, and the monsters in the Kragmar Plains no longer posed much of a challenge. He'd have to move on to tougher areas soon, but for now, he took a moment to savor his milestone.

Logging out of YGGDRASIL was always a bittersweet experience. As the blinding white light of the game's exit screen faded, Marcus found himself back in the real world, still seated in his sleek gaming pod. He removed the neural interface helmet, stretching as he stepped out.

"Man," he said to himself, running a hand through his hair, "that grind is no joke."

The weeks he'd spent playing YGGDRASIL were some of the most immersive he'd ever experienced. But as much as he loved the game, real life still demanded his attention. Marcus made his way to the kitchen, reheating leftovers from the night before. His penthouse was as pristine as ever, its modern, minimalist design a stark contrast to the rugged wilderness of the Kragmar Plains.

As he ate, his thoughts drifted back to the game. He'd been playing for weeks now, dedicating hours each day to building Dawnfyr's skills, exploring the world, and experimenting with different strategies. But even with his third wish ensuring he was naturally talented at the game, it was clear that leveling up wasn't going to be an overnight process.

"I guess this is how the devs keep it interesting," Marcus mused, shoveling another forkful of rice into his mouth. "No power leveling for noobs like me."

Outside of the game, Marcus's life had settled into a comfortable rhythm. Mornings began with a workout in his private gym, followed by a hearty breakfast and a few hours spent working on side projects. With his background in programming, he'd even started tinkering with a few ideas inspired by YGGDRASIL, drafting blueprints for potential in-game items he could request later.

But as much as he tried to balance his real-life responsibilities, Marcus found himself returning to the game more and more. The world of YGGDRASIL was addictive, a vibrant escape where he could forge his own legend.

Occasionally, he ventured out into the city, exploring Tokyo's bustling streets and indulging in the finer things his newfound wealth afforded him. He'd visit high-end restaurants, shop for cutting-edge tech, and even take the time to chat with fellow gamers at local VR lounges. But no matter where he went, his mind always wandered back to YGGDRASIL.

The next time Marcus logged in, Dawnfyr materialized in the Kragmar Plains once again, his crimson skin glowing faintly under the moonlight. He adjusted the grip on Crimson Fang, surveying the area for his next target.

The grind was slow, yes, but Marcus knew that every encounter brought him closer to his goals. Whether it was fighting off packs of wolves, dodging ambushes from rock trolls, or exploring the hidden nooks of the plains, every moment felt like a step forward.

"Level six," he said to himself, a small smirk tugging at his lips. "Not bad, Dawnfyr. Not bad at all."

But as much as he enjoyed the satisfaction of his progress, one thought lingered in the back of his mind: it was time to move on. The Kragmar Plains had served him well, but he was ready for something new—new challenges, new monsters, and maybe even new players to test his skills against.

With renewed determination, Dawnfyr began his trek toward the edge of the plains, the promise of adventure pulling him forward.
