Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

Emily's POV

"Hello, sunshine." Damon turned and greeted me as soon as I opened the door to his room.

Usually, he was still sleeping, or grumpy. He'd grunt and make all sorts of noises, without properly acknowledging me. I'd bear it all, telling myself that it was only a matter of time before he was out of his palace.

But that Tuesday was different.

I had on pink pants and a silky black shirt that Nala picked off the rack, using her discretion. I thanked her for it silently in my head as I paired it with the pink pants and it went so perfectly well.

I packed my hair in a high ponytail, and put on some fancy bands with coral decors. I looked like the perfect PA, even I knew it. It's how I saw women dress online.

I didn't know who I was gonna be working with asides Damon, I needed to make a good impression.

"Good morning, Damon." I replied, feeling a little bit uneasy.

"You look pretty." He said, smiling like a puppy.

"Thank you." I replied again, out of courtesy.

"I'll be done in a minute. Sit over there." He said, pointing to his bed.

That had never happened, never.

I tried to keep my gaze averted, my eyes away. I never looked at him while he dressed, and he never dressed up in the room. It was from the bathroom straight to the dressing room. Damon had a billion tuxedo's of different colours, feel and materials, patterns too.

"Have you had anything to eat?" He asked me, looking at me through the mirror.

"No." I replied. "I didn't want to go down to the kitchen." I added it quickly.

Neglect by kitchen staff could cost them their jobs, which most times, was the thread their families hung on to. I worked just a few hours there, and I swore to never jeopardise any of their jobs.

"Is there a reason for that?" He asked.

In the back of my mind, Damon was cold and hostile to me, like he'd always been. And I wished for that to be reality, cause this new him was NEW!

"I just don't feel up to it." I answered.

"Alright." He gave up. "I'll grab my tie and we can be on our way."

"Okay." I replied, thankful for the distraction, and hoping it would take a lot of time.

I checked my wristwatch, it was ten minutes past six. The day hadn't fully dawned.

I couldn't resist the view from the window. As expected, Alpha's room had the most beautiful view, from the window out into the yard, and further into the horizon, and from the door into the palace, it was really a hawk's position.

"How are you?" Damon's breath blew against my neck.

This time around, we weren't feets apart, he was right behind me, breathing down my neck.

I froze for minutes, waiting for my flight or fright response to kick in, but it didn't.

"Never been better." I chuckled nervously.

"That's great." He said, and kissed my ear. "The public will meet you, my wife, for the first time after the wedding. I need you to be your happiest, you already look very beautiful."

"Thank you." I replied. Just in case it was a compliment.

"Let's go, baby." He said, putting his hands on my waist.

I turned around immediately. That was just about all my body could handle.

I picked my purse up from his bed. It was some animal skin dyed pink and black, I think.

Damon chuckled and trailed behind me.

My steps quicker immediately I got out of his room.

I knew his routine, I knew the car he took on Tuesdays, even if I didn't, I knew to just locate Farh in the garage, he's the only one who tended to the Alpha.

 "I'm sorry." Farh said.

It's funny, cause I almost burst out laughing. How did he know I was forced or made to do it? How did he know it was a punishment for all my misdemeanours from the previous day?

I gave him a wide knowing smile, and hopped into the car, as I could hear Damon approaching us already.

"Good morning, Sir." Farh greeted Damon with a bob of his head, before taking his seat in front of the wheel.

Damon got in beside me, while Farh put his briefcase in the front passenger's seat.

Once again, we were in close proximity, too close for comfort.

His musky, minty, manly scent filled the car, overpowering the sweet mild cologne I opted for.

"Help me." I said quietly to myself, as I threw my gaze out of the car's tinted glasses.

I knew no one could see us inside, so I could peer for as long and hard as I wanted to.

Faster than I thought, Farh pulled over in the parking lot of some really really tall building.

It had glass panes all over, and sent the rays of the early morning sun scattering all over the streets.

"This is ours." Damon answered my unasked question. "Over six hundred billion dollar deals have been closed there, just since I became Alpha." He boasted.

"That's intimidating." I replied to him.

Damon laughed and held my hand, and together, we walked into the building. The interior was as posh as I expected it to be.

The reception, which is the first place you enter, had earthy indoor decor. With horns, and charms, and amulets hanging from fancy places on the wall, the chairs were arranged almost haphazardly, a beautiful mess.

The floor was terrazzo and glistened from all corners.

Men in suits stood up from where they'd been sitting and walked towards Damon and I.

I gave them a cursory smile, because I was too busy taking in everything around me, to be concerned with their business and consumer talk.

Damon dismissed them asap, and together, we climbed into an elevator.

As soon as the door shut, I let out some air I didn't know I held in.

"They said you are beautiful." Damon said, looking at me.

Being in an elevator with Damon was not the same as being in an elevator with Dathan. Dathans whole essence was ease, I felt free.

With Damon, I was highly self conscious and aware.
