Claire's pov
Ethan's Father also lives in the estates but it seems like an endless drive. I remained calm gazing out at the vast open space. The atmosphere inside the ride seemed tense and I remained glued to my position. Despite being ethan secretary for years we never shared a ride. We moved past a few buildings, I suppose a private movie theater and Private gym with a spa house.
The whole view was breathtaking but my heart pounds louder the closer we get. I can't stop thinking about my faith with Mr Mathew. Ever since Ethan was made the CEO of Carter Enterprises he stopped coming to the company.
"Would his father cancel our marriage contract? Would he tell me to leave his son or I can't belong to the carters family". Different thoughts rampage through my heads as fidgets the hems of my garment.
The ride stops in front of a majestic building painted white coated onion skin. Ethan stepped down confidently while I struggled to get down. I took a deep breath patting myself carefully before stepping in. We were welcomed by a few maids and staff before we were ushered to the dining room, Where a powerful presence was sitting majestically with silver hair. His gaze shifted to us. He has a deep brown eye quite different from Ethan pairs.
"Oh dear!" His voice welcomed us and we greeted him with Ethan's moving closer to hug him. They seem to have a cordial relationship. I observed from afar watching the chefs set the table with a variety Including Matzo Ball soup with cannoli sauce, Grilled beef with kimchi and rice.
My stomach suddenly grumbled loudly.That moment I wished the ground would swallow me up.
Mr Mathew gave me a warm smile asking me to sit while Ethan maintained a straight face. You can't blame me, I haven't eaten well for the past few days and my strength is gradually depleting. I felt too embarrassed to lift my fork as I waited for them to eat.
"My dear Claire I invited you here to ask you a few questions and I appreciate your honest answers, seeing you are part of the family now." He started carefully.
"Have you been engaged to anyone before ?" He asked slowly, waiting for my response.
"Sir, I have never been with any man and I will try my best not to let the family down. You don't need to worry about me." I said politely, bowing my head.
"Very good my dear. Let's eat." He ordered
Sweats covered my face slowly with my heart thudding loudly. He must have been finding information about me perhaps to check my background.
I couldn't dare to look any of them in the face. I maintained my calm, finding the confidence to eat but then Ethan's phone popped notifications and he stood up immediately.
"Father, I have to go now, I will come see you soon!". Ethan announced,ready to leave me behind. Mr Mathew nodded his head carefully and he continued to eat. I wished I could join him but I was hoping I could talk to Ethan.
"See you soon sir "I greeted briefly, following Ethan's pace closely as we stepped out.
"Excuse me please " I managed to call out to Ethan. He stopped abruptly turning his back only for me to hit my head on his stony chest
I stepped back immediately adjusting myself. I fumble my bag and bring out the envelope he handed over to me in the office.
"Really sir?"He smirked ridiculously but I ignored. I got to understand he doesn't Really need my care, just my services as his secretary is enough so I decided to distance myself.
I really don't need any of these things. Including the card please. I'm okay with my salary and allowance and you don't even have to increase it.
Don't worry sir, I will stick to the rule and I promise not to bother you. I said briefly, caressing the ring in my hand, I hoped he wouldn't ask me to remove it.
I appreciate all you have done and I really don't need your money and any of these things. The driver also can stay behind, not like I have ever resumed work late. I handed over the documents back to him and refrained easily, turning back to take my leave.
He pulled me back to himself leaning closer to me. My body was weak but felt alive at that moment. I felt his warm breath on my face.
It feels like he was going to press his lips against mine. I patted my lips waiting for it with my eyes closed but then his voice echoed in my ear closely
"I insist the driver take you home and not just work, including anywhere you want to go! I don't want to see the pictures of you catching taxis up and down on the internet``.He said clearly leaving me behind.
This is it! Not like he cares he's only doing it for the public shows _
Media this,media that!. I wonder if they are real. I hissed, matching my way out but then I suddenly felt dizzy. My head began to spin uncontrollably and my stomach grumbled loudly,my mouth felt dry.
I realized I haven't eaten anything for days. I felt my strength leaving me at that moment I missed my steps and collapsed
Did I really collapse? I felt a strong cologne around me and then my body didn't hit the Floor
I felt arms around me and I couldn't resist much. It must have been the driver I thought briefly as my heavy eye closed
