"Good morning class." the teacher said as she set her clipboard on the stand before her, "lets open our books to page one hundred thirty-seven." The class opened their books, and the teacher began to read. as she read, one of the students, Talia heard her friend Amil call her name in a faint whisper. Talia turned behind her to find out what her friend needed. When Talia turned, she didn't see her friend, in fact she did not see anything. It was dark all around her. Then Talia heard a voice. " Talia" Talia." Talia" Talia looked toward the front again and everything went back to the way it was before. "Talia?" Her teacher asked " Are you alright? " Talia looked around the classroom in a panic but nothing seemed to be out of place and her friend amil was sited right behind her looking into her book. the bell rung and the teacher dismissed the students.
Talia got up from her desk and walked out of her classroom as she walked through the hallway, Talia noticed that there were notebooks and other school supplies scattered on the floor. Teachers rushed from class to class calling out student's names and different groups of people crowded together talking about something in hushed murmurs. As Talia observed the chaos around her, her friend Amil came up from behind her and put her hand on Talia's shoulder. Talia jumped slightly but quickly balanced herself. Hey, Talia, are you okay? You seemed spooked in class? Did something happen?" before Talia could answer, Amil seemed to hear someone call her and she began to walk away. Talia grabbed Amil's hand but before she could say anything Amil's black eyes scared her and she released her. Amil quickly turned towards a window in the hallway and jumped out. Fortunately, it was on the ground floor, so when Amil jumped, she wasn't harmed. A mil landed on the ground and her eyes suddenly went back to normal.
Talia quickly rushed outside the school to check on amil. "Are you okay, Amil?" Amil nodded yes and Talia helped her up and walked her home.
That night Talia had a dream that she was the top student in her school, and she was receiving an award. As Talia celebrated and began to give her speech, Amil came up to the stand and shoved her down the stand. Then looked at her as she sat on the ground. "You'll never be number one. Get comfortable in second place." Amil whispered as she smiled menacingly at Talia. Talia quickly jolted from her sleep and sat at her desk to study.
As she studied, Talia heard a voice behind her calling out her name. Talia looked behind her and found herself surrounded by darkness once again. she got up from her desk and grabbed her lamp. Talai slowly walked into the darkness with her lamp being a guide to her. despite the great darkness, the lamp shone brightly and pierced the darkness around her. Talia walked for what seemed to be hours before she reached a high table. the table was empty and seemed to be waiting for someone to fill the seat. she observed the table but soon lost interest in it and continued walking. Finally, Talia found herself in a completely white room with a woman who was writing on a chalkboard and had her back facing
After about an hour of writing and Talia sitting on the floor waiting for the woman to pay any attention to her existence, the woman turned to face Talia. " Hello Talia, what brings you here?"
Talia looked up and saw here teacher standing there in all white smiling down at her. "Miss?" Talia asked with shock. "
Before Talia could say or ask anything. She found herself back in her bedroom with her lamp exactly where it was when she began studying. Talia looked around her in a panic, but everything seemed to be in place. She got up from her des sighed deeply and went back to sleep.
The Next morning, Talai woke up and rushed to school. Today was the day of her test and she had studied all night. She was sure that this time she would beat Amil and be number one in her school. When Talia reached school, she noticed sirens around her and ambulances parked Infront of her school. She brushed off the slight disturbance and quickly walked into class and sat on her desk. She waved at Amil as she did every morning and set her stationary on her desk. The teacher walked in and stood at her stand. "Good morning class, I hope you rested well last night because today we have a test that is fifty percent of the grade. Amil please come up to the front and hand these sheets out." Amil walked up to the front and handed out the tests to everyone in the room.
As she did the test Talia felt that her hard work was paying off. when she got to the second page of her test, Talia heard Amil call her from behind. She ignored it but Amil was persistent. Finally, after Amil Had called her seven to eight times, Talia turned to face her. However, Amil was not behind her. it was a large reflective surface. Talia turned to face the front, but the reflective surface had now fully surrounded her. Outside the reflective surface, Amil and Talia's other classmates panicked and violently tapped on the surface calling Talia's name. In the reflective box Talia saw Amil standing before her with a gold medal around her neck smiling. Talia tapped the surface, and her finger got stuck in it. She then tried to pull her finger out by placing her second hand on the surface and pushing but hat hand got stuck too. As Talia screamed out in panic, she felt herself fully submerge in the reflective thing. Everything was dark and silent for a long time before she opened her eyes and found herself standing on a stand with a gold medal around her neck. For a moment she was unaware of where she was but then everything made sense. She was in Amil's body, maybe. And she was being awarded as the number on student in her school. Within the reflective surface, Talia smiled as she had now become the person she envied most while, outside the reflective surface, Talia's classmates cried out in pain as they slowly became submerged by the reflexive surface.
