Alec's POV
I didn't know why I chose to go out instead of spending time with my wife. But Meg had to learn her lessons. I loved my mother and sister, but how could she let them come in our house like that and look down on her? For how long will she continue to be weak like this? She is my damn wife and she needed to be stronger than this!
The party was boring already, or I was just eager to head home.
"Leaving already?" Bruce, one of my colleagues and friends at work asked.
I nodded, "this party sucks. Besides, I've met with the chairman of Brooks Store, and I'm pretty sure he's fallen in love with me already."
"Ha, nice one. So you came here to strike the deal, not to celebrate with us?" Thomas, another of my friend teased.
"You know me, bro. It's always business over pleasure." I said to him.
"You know, Mira says hi. She always asks of you." Bruce said with a serious tone.
"Well good for her. She can't resume, when I fired her 3 months ago, it was for a good cause." I replied.
"I still think you shouldn't have fired her." Bruce insisted.
"Well, good night fellows. I'm not having this conversation anymore."
"Fine." Bruce grunted. "But I just thought you wanted to get away from your wife, you know, Mira is such a nice means of distraction for you--"
With so much anger boiling inside me, I reached for his collar, being taller than him, I had him in my grasp that he blinked fast in shock with his hands thrown in the air in surrender.
"Don't ever talk about my wife like that, do you understand me?" I realized my voice was thunder, but I didn't care.
Bruce was shivering now. "Y-yes. Sure man, stop this we're in public!"
"Yea man, cool down!" Thomas joined in, trying to calm me down.
I let go of Bruce, but my anger had not reduced. Quickly, not wanting to cause a scene, I turned and walked away. I could hear them muttering behind.
"What the hell is wrong with him? There's no lie he hates his wife, so why is he getting all defensive like that?" Thomas was saying.
"Just leave him. Whatever man, just leave him." Bruce said back and they continued muttering something else I did not hear because I was already far away from them.
Damn it, even I didn't know why I became so defensive like that. It wasn't a lie that I was fed up of my marriage with Meg. But she was still my wife anyway. And now, I think our three years contract would be over this month, so I was already looking forward to becoming a father soon. I told her to wait three years before we could start getting all hyped up about having kids.
I stepped into the vehicle and ordered my driver to drop me home. On getting home, I saw that my mom and Bella were still around. Of course Meg was still so weak to chase them out of our matrimonial home.
"Well that was quick. So did you meet with the chairman?" My mother said.
Bella jumped up to meet me. "Hey, what's with the gloomy face?"
"Nothing." I brushed her hand off as she brought it to touch my face. "She's upstairs, right?"
Silence. Both Bella and mother exchanged an awkward glance that made my brows furrow.
"What's this? Did you fight again?" I rolled my eyes. "By the way, why did you ask me to send a picture of our company dinner of six months ago? Specifically the one where Mira was in it?"
Bella coughed, clearing her throat. She had asked that I sent a picture of our company dinner six months ago like it was something urgent, specifically asking of the ones Mira featured in.
"I still can't believe you fired that sweet innocent Mira." My mother said, ignoring my question to Bella.
"I told you why I fired her. She was hitting on me, plenty of times. Even though I told her I was married."
"So? What's the point staying with a slut like your wife anyway?" My mother said causally like that wasn't an insult to my wife!
"I take it all, you know? But it has to stop tonight. Meg will be the mother of my kids, and you should start respecting her now. Jokes apart, mom." I said in a strict tone. "How dare you call her a slut?" Bella snorted, and my mother actually giggled.
My frown deepened. "Whats this? What's going on with you two, huh?" I demanded.
"Your wife, or should I say ex wife, came in here with a man! We tried to ask her who that man was but she was so rude to us she said we should mind our business!" My mother narrated dramatically.
"Yes. And you need to see the way she played with him. He was grabbing on to her waist, and they were giggling and laughing together. She mentioned something about divorcing you, brother. Meg has gone." Bella concluded.
I just stood still like a log of wood, trying to process what they'd just said. But the truth was that Meg wasn't that kind of woman at all.
"What is this, you guys fought again didn't you? Or wait, was this me?" I exhaled deeply. "Fine. I'll just call her."
"You don't believe us? Go see for yourself. She took everything! She stole some of your stuff too, and we couldn't say anything because this man was huge! What if he hurt us?"
I ignored and went up only for me to see she had indeed cleared all of her stuff. Immediately, I began to dial her number. All to no avail.
"What's this? How can you just leave, Meg? What the actual hell?" I didn't realize I had been talking out loud to myself.
I found my way to the control room to check through the cctv footage. The ones inside were faulty at the moment, but I could see the one outside. Truly, there she was with three boxes and a man!--wait, Meg brought a man over to my own home?? And she was leaving without telling me anything?
At this rate, I thought I would explode from all the rage burning inside of me. Heaving in deep breaths, I thought of what might really be happening. "Okay Meg, you're stupid so I know you'll come back." A bitter laughter escaped my lips. "You better come back, okay? You're nothing without me, we both know that!"
So she was cheating on me? Meg was cheating on me???
My mind was racing now as it replayed back our argument early that evening. "So what? Was that enough reason to leave me? To embarrass me in the presence of my family! Ha! You better come back, Meg, else, I swear you'll regret it."
