Chapter 22 - CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Leah saw the confusion on the face of the woman in front of her now.

"Can you explain why this is affecting my child? Why is Ashley's soul imprisoned? That child is not yet dead!" Sharlene asked, her face clearly showing confusion and concern for her child.

"That's her fault, Sharlene— her fault." Felicia blamed Leah; she was already used to being blamed in situations like this, and she calmly looked at the person in front of her.

"I have so many questions. W—why are they here? W—What place is this?" Next, it kept asking questions one after another.

Leah just sighed. "Sharlene," she called her by the name of the person in front of her and stared at her.

"I know you can answer your questions." She slowly stood up from her chair then.

"I don't know who you will side with or who you will help." Leah continued while looking at Sharlene.

"Don't involve the child in this, okay? Whatever sin I have committed against you, against Grandma, please don't involve my child." Sharlene just clenched her fists.

"Besides, I'm out of your mess and my child's; I have my problems to face, so let my child's soul go." Sharlene continued, her gaze fixed intently on Leah.

"Did you hear that, Felicia?" Leah turned to Felicia, who glared at her angrily. "Her child is what she's worried about now," she added.

Felicia examined her thoroughly before turning his attention to Sharlene.

"Sharlene, we'll help you when we leave; my friends, especially Ashley, can help. Sharlene, I understand what you're experiencing right now. Please trust us to help you. We need your trust to find peace for our souls." Felicia tried to convince Sharlene; she even saw how she pleaded with her grandchild.

Leah couldn't help but smile and shake her head—just shake her head.

Sharlene looked at her hand, and she saw how Sharlene hesitated.

"Why did you imprison my child?" she heard Sharlene ask again. "You still haven't answered my question." Sharlene asked her grandmother.

"I was the one who locked Ashley up." Leah admitted that she was the one who did it and sighed.

"What did my child do to you?" Sharlene asked her and saw upon seeing its blazing anger.

"Sharlene, you're talking to an evil spirit; Leah won't bring anything good." Felicia said Leah knows Felicia fueled the anger of Sharlene; she just shook her head.

"I did it because I wanted to." She smiled at Sharlene.

"Release my child, or I'll release Grandma." Sharlene threatened her.

But Leah only smiled at Sharlene. "That's something I won't allow to happen." She stated that with a serious expression on Leah's face.

"What has caused you to feel so angry? You weren't like this when I first saw you alive." Sharlene looked at her and asked, "What changed since I first saw you alive?"

Leah just smiled and softly laughed. "I know you'll find out too; if you really want to know, you can travel and see what happened back then. You can do it without your grandmother's help." Leah explained it to her.

"Grandma, tell me the truth, are you the one reason why I always see her life back then?" Sharlene asked her grandmother directly.

"Because I want peace, and I want you to see her past; after this, if you free us, I won't bother you anymore. I did this for your own good." Felicia said to Sharlene.

Sharlene didn't answer; she thought for a moment and looked at her closely. Sharlene approached Ashley, who was in prison.

"I will come back, my child; I will come back. Don't give up, please." That's all she heard from Sharlene; she sees that Sharlene is full of pain to see Ashley in that situation.

Sharlene looked at the three who were in prison. "I will return; I will find out the truth myself, whether I will let you go or not." Leah heard her say.

"Sharlene—" Felicia's voice is pleading with Sharlene.

Sharlene interrupted Felicia, who was not yet done talking. "I will come back, Grandma." Leah could only hear Sharlene sighing.

It disappeared like a bubble from their sight; Leah guessed its body had awakened, coming from a long dream. Sharlene's disappearance broke the entire silence that had enveloped them.

Leah only sat down then and watched the three; she was laughing because Felicia's plan to flee them had failed.

"Felicia! Our key is there. Is that really your grandchild?" Manuel asked Felicia angrily.

Felicia remained silent, but her companions continued to blame her.

"Do you really think your grandchild is stupid enough, Felicia?" she asked, laughing softly.

Felicia was trembling with anger and gave Leah a fierce look. She was just shaking her head, stood up, and left the three.

She touched Ashley's room and looked at the child.

Why did you lie to Mom? Please explain why you haven't mentioned that you saved me. Leah was the only one who heard Ashley's voice.

Leah didn't say anything. You will also be free here; I will find a way to lift your grandmother's curse. She made a promise to Ashley.

She left after saying that to the child. She stepped out of her self-proclaimed home of darkness. She waves her hand, and she ends up in an old mansion. She left behind memories when she was still living here.

As she entered the mansion that was filled with old memories, some of her acquaintances had also fled and left this mansion— her once happy mansion, now, just like her, full of sadness and anger.

Leah used to live here peacefully; she caught sight of her old room where she used to live; she just remembered the sweet love that she experienced back then that would bring her ruin.

"You were really so foolish back then, Leah." She commented to herself and just laughed, sitting on her old bed.

She gave everything to the man she loved deeply, sacrificed her womanhood, became a good wife, and is becoming a good daughter-in-law to her husband's parents.

Leah left her room; she went somewhere. She was looking for a grave.

She saw herself back then; all she did at that time was cry because her pregnancy was sensitive; she miscarried the child in her womb.

My child! She still hears her wailing back then, when she made a grave for her dead child, because she was the only one mourning the loss of her child; she was eight months pregnant, and the baby was almost fully formed; there, her world as a mother collapsed.

This situation continues to this day. She thought to herself. Leah didn't see her child when she passed away because she wasn't at peace, and all she wants is to find justice for her death.

Back then, as a soul seeking peace, I was mocked. Leah thought to herself back then that they were just making fun of her.

I will also make fools of you, Felicia, Angely, and Manuel. You used someone who had nothing to do with this, and until now, you still haven't changed.

She was walking through a crowd of people, almost in a hurry to reach their destination. Occasionally, she bumped into them, but she just pushed through. Leah can read their thoughts; she has just realized that living people can be frightening. She is afraid of what it might do just to reach their destination.

Leah just observed the living; she needed to return again. She visited her acquaintances, realizing that she would still be here if not for the tragedy that claimed her life in the past.
