DING-DONG~RRZZZZ!
The alarm clock went off.
It rang so loud it immediately woke Zephyr from his slumber.
BEEP-BOOP!
As he moved his body to pick up his phone, he realized that he didn't even set an alarm, which meant that the sound was all in his head.
BUZZZZ!
"Fuck, I'm up," Zephyr muttered, his words sluggish as a signal of his lack of sleep.
[Time's running out] Nix's voice said, which caused Zephyr to fix his composure.
Raising his phone to check the time, Zephyr's eyes widened as he realized that it was truly getting late.
Jumping out from bed, Zephyr moved quickly, making his way to the sofa.
Sitting down, he then turned all focus to the almost ruined phone in his hands.
Moving to his messages,
He waited, his head occasionally raising up to catch a glimpse of the time.
And then
{ok, get ready}
He received a message.
And with fast motion, he changed the application he was using to another.
Its front cover was blank, as if the application itself was one which was never meant to be used.
Then he waited.
{Go!}
Another message came in.
And Zephyr started typing swiftly.
His hands moved with blinding speed.
The content of the words being written on his screen was nothing but pure green code.
It went on for minutes—no, for almost an hour—and finally, he stopped.
Zephyr's arms began shaking, as his eyes couldn't believe what they had seen.
On top of his phone, right where the time usually shows, was a message:
[{Bank: Payment +$30,000 into MAIN ACCOUNT}]
He didn't know how to act; his reaction showed delay.
And Nix, as though to confirm,
[Congrats Mr Zephyr]
[You are finally a criminal]
"…"
Zephyr couldn't speak; he was too stunned to say anything.
[I mean, I gotta give it to you]
[Stealing half a dollar from 70,000 accounts]
[Woo, you are truly something]
RRRIIIINNNGGG~RING-RING!
His phone started ringing.
He was scared, frightened.
And Nix, as if increasing the pressure,
[Answer it my boy,]
he spoke, as if taunting him.
[I mean, the worst that could happen is juvenile, am I wrong?]
"…"
Zephyr swiped to the right, accepting the call.
What gave him more chills was the fact that the call was private.
"Hello…" Zephyr spoke with hesitation, his voice sounding more like a question.
Then a laugh rang from the other side.
Zephyr felt confused.
{You know, I really thought you gave me the wrong number,} the voice replied. It was a woman. {But I'm glad you didn't.}
Zephyr's eyes widened, a sigh of relief moving out from his lips.
The only thing going through his mind was the thought of getting arrested.
Then he remembered the girl from the pizza spot.
{Are you there?} she asked, realizing that he had been silent the whole time.
"Yeah, sorry," Zephyr laughed slightly, his breathing rather loud due to the previous thoughts that filled his mind.
"I was just… busy." He said, feeling a bit at ease knowing it wasn't what he had expected.
"So what can I do for you, madam waitress?" his voice a bit teasing.
{Hehehe, nothing much, just wondering if you wanna hang out sometime?}
Zephyr was taken aback—not surprised, but taken aback.
"Wow, is the waitress truly asking me out? You sure it's not against work policy to go out with a customer?" he asked, his words betrayed by a hint of laughter.
{No, it's not!} she quickly replied, dismissing the thought of the question. {And besides, we are just hanging out… Right?}
"Yeah, of course," Zephyr giggled.
{Saturday 8 pm?}
"Saturday 8."
BEEP!
The call cut off, leaving Zephyr to the loneliness of his own smile's embrace.
[Problem detected…]
[Detecting Creep energy]
"Bro, shut up," Zephyr laughed, as he got up from his seat and dropped his body on his bed.
BEEP!
His phone received a message.
Picking up his phone and looking at its contents,
{Nice doing business with you, hit me up if you need anything else}
"Sigh."
Zephyr couldn't help but sigh, the message finally confirming how he was off from danger.
The person who was talking was a specialist who had a restricted bank account.
Zephyr had used his account to transfer money that belonged to at least 60,000 people.
Of course, this money was so little that even if noticed, it wouldn't attract that much suspicion.
'But to think that when the money was combined it would be this much,' Zephyr couldn't help but think.
Thinking about how for the past two days he had to do this exact same thing tirelessly, And it was only now that he truly understood the significance of all that hard work.
And as for the person who owned the account, he got to keep all the amount that Zephyr left to be in excess.
Although Zephyr was the one who did all the work, he understood how much trouble the man's unregistered account prevented from happening.
"What do I have to do now?" Zephyr asked, as curiosity hit him, making him wonder about the mysteries that lay in their next actions.
[Build a PC,] Nix replied almost instantly.
"So, more videos and notes?"
[More videos and notes]
__________[1 DAY LATER] {21 hours}
.
Sitting wearing pajamas and watching TV.
His mouth filled with ice cream as his body rested comfortably at the comfort of his sofa.
[{An unexpected gate suddenly appeared in the middle of the streets,
hunters say they are on their way but they appear to be taking time since its evacuation placed it as an E rank dungeon. Nearby residents say…}]
["…"]
"What?" Zephyr asked, feeling an odd vibe from Nix.
It was as if Nix were watching him with a skeptical gaze, even though he didn't have eyes.
[Based on your memories, gates are dungeons formed from an overwhelming amount of mana accumulating itself in one area]
"So what does that have to do with me?" Zephyr spoke, his face as if uninterested, as he scooped some ice cream and filled his mouth with it.
[You are scared, aren't you,] Nix finally asked, which caused Zephyr to slightly react.
[I am a part of your consciousness so there is no use in lying]
"Than why are you asking?" Zephyr replied, putting the ice cream away as though he had lost his appetite.
In truth, Zephyr was in fact afraid.
Even though he knew of the dangers that were to come in the future and the importance of growing stronger, something in him was genuinely frightened.
[Your fear is proving itself as a danger to your growth. If you wish, I can remove that feeling]
"There is no need," he replied, but deep down he really wanted it.
Never in both his lives had he ever seen monsters.
Even in this one, the most he had seen was watching them on TV just like everyone else… it all felt too overwhelming.
The thought of going in front of monstrous creatures was terrifying.
In his past life, he had always yearned to escape reality, fantasizing about waking up one day to discover that he had been transported to a world filled with elves and endless wonders.
But now, knowing that something similar had happened, he had lost all form of confidence.
His thoughts about the Monarchs and the Gods that govern this world arose a question in the depths of his mind: 'Was he truly enough?'
Could he even survive in a world like this?
[Your emotions are reaching a high level]
[Adaption is too weak to take effect]
[Panic attack defence]
[Panic attack neutralised]
Yet Zephyr just ignored the warning message, As a sense of encouragement took form.
Thinking to himself that even if he was weak,
Even if he wouldn't match their strength,
'He will not die,'
Not again, and certainly not in this life.
"So what do I have to do?" Zephyr finally asked, his resolve now clear.
He didn't know what it was—maybe it was his maturity, or probably because Nix had intervened—but whatever it could be, it made him realize one critical aspect:
'He needed power.'
