Chapter 16 - Speech [2]

Arthur leaned against a wall in the hallway, his attention was glued to the piece of paper in his hand.

'And with that.'

He finally turned his attention away from the paper and crumpled it before making his way out of the building.

As soon as he stepped out he used a basic level flame spell.

He burned the crumpled piece of paper before dusting his hands.

There was no need to focus on trying to learn all the boring details, instead he would incorporate some of the things that were used in his time during the war.

The crowd of students outside the hall were gone, in the brief time that he had spent getting and trying to cram the letter.

He passed by the guards stationed at the door, the men gave him a brief glance before opening the door for him.

He responded with a brief nod as he entered inside.

10:58.

Without wasting anytime he made his way to the side just as the opening formalities were about to finish.

He stood in the shadows as he waited for it to reach 11, watching the professor on the stage speak.

Naturally, his eyes wandered to the numerous students present.

He couldn't find the one he was looking for.

Not his sister, neither was it Roselyn.

However, it was supposed to be on a particular student. The supposed top-ranker of the first years in Lavender Academy.

The player character.

But, Arthur couldn't find him.

'I'll need a better view.'

There would be no better view in this place than the podium.

11:00.

The professor at the podium had already ended his speech, but he was adding a little extra to it.

The reason? The professor that was supposed to take over was nowhere to be found.

He calmly stepped out of the shadows and slowly made his way over to the podium.

The professor glanced his way and almost stuttered over his words as he saw Arthur approaching, but he still managed to catch himself.

Arthur subtly gestured for the man to get off the stage as he calmly made his way over.

The man didn't think it over and quickly wrapped it off before excusing himself.

As far as he knew, maybe this man was supposed to be the replacement, it didn't seem too far-fetched to the professor considering the circumstances.

Barely some seconds after he left, he was replaced by another professor.

Arthur Vaelthorne.

His was the closing speech.

And it was clear that the students were hardly paying attention, even the ones in the front row who were supposed to be attentive were seemingly on the verge of falling asleep.

He gripped the side of the podium as he surveyed the room with a sharp gaze.

Finally, he began.

"Good morning."

Some eyes looked up, staring at the man who was supposed to give a speech – for the third time today.

They were obviously bored and didn't expect much.

"For everyone present, this is your first day at Lavender Academy."

His speech didn't sound like a closing speech.

"Most of you come from noble backgrounds, awakened early, and trained under private tutors. Others are commoners, you've clawed your way here despite your differences, you may have awakened later than those you sit with and had little to no privileges as you worked hard, and now you barely scraped by the minimum to this prestigious academy."

His words were beginning to attract the students – even the ones that had seemed to be on the verge of sleep were watching him.

Arthur had already deviated from the original script he was given, but it was good in its own way, he had his audiences attention.

"You all will be first years even with your differences, but even though most of you are different, I'm sure you all have the same thoughts now. - 'What's going to happen?'"

He calmly took a deep breath before continuing.

Now, he had everyone's attention, even the ones that were supposed to be sleeping through.

"Here, most will experience two things. Disappointment and doubt."

He paused, letting his words sink in.

The silence in this place could only be described with one word—

Pindrop.

If a pin were to drop everyone would be able to hear it.

The next words that came out were shocking.

"But, I'm sure everyone here already know disappointment and doubt, something like that won't be a new topic for anyone."

A slight grin spread across his face as he spoke.

"Even if you prepared for it, just know that it will hit you harder than you ever expected it to be able to."

"Here, you will undoubtedly be broken down and remolded into something better. However, if you can't be reshaped into something better, Lavender Academy has no use of you, consider your non-existent potential gone."

He paused for a second.

It seemed to be there to allow his words sink in again—

"Thank you, and welcome to Lavender Academy."

He said.

Then, he walked off the stage.

Nobody clapped, they were too shocked to do so.

But, the message had been passed on, everyone present had listened when he was speaking.

Arthur didn't say anything, his eyes were closed and he seemed to be thinking to himself. But even then, he easily navigated and left.

He went in the direction of another building, particularly the one where the headmaster's office could be found.

When he was searching for the headmaster's office he had managed to find his own office, though at the time it wasn't important.

Now, he was going there.

The door opened with a slight creak.

The office he was currently in was nothing out of the ordinary.

Slowly, he went to sit on a chair, ignoring a stack of paper on the table next to him.

Arthur dropped his gaze to the ground.

And let out a sigh.

"Why the hell....?"

He murmured as he stared at the ground.

His mood had turned sour in an instant.

Though it wasn't because of the speech, he already knew that he had finished it prematurely and he didn't even care about it now.

But—

"....Why the hell is this showing?"

He murmured to himself as he stared in disbelief.
