Chapter 21 - Ruins

On the ruins once called Idoru, corpses littered the ground, mixed with the stench of burning. It was no longer even a dead city; the demons' mass self-destruction had obliterated everything. "Ugh~" A figure slowly crawled from the rubble—it was Joe. "Am I still alive? Where are the others?" Joe called out, "Sisi, Judo, Kaia, Emily!" A faint voice replied, "I'm here." Joe followed the sound and found Emily lying on the ground. "Ouch," Emily groaned as she stood. "How's everyone?" she asked. Joe said, "I'm not sure. Let's split up and look." Joe and Emily searched the area, surrounded by mangled human and demon remains, a sight that nauseated Emily. "It's Judo!" Joe shouted. Emily rushed over, stunned. Judo, recently healed, was now missing two limbs again, his face charred black. "Judo!" Joe called. "I need to heal him now. Joe, find the others," Emily urged. "Okay," Joe said and left. Soon, Joe ran back, saying he found Sisi, and she was in bad shape. Emily hurried over—Sisi was impaled by sharp debris, bleeding heavily, barely alive. "What do I do? I only have enough magic to heal one person," Emily cried. "I'll share my magic with you. Try it," Joe comforted. "Alright, get Judo. Sisi can't be moved," Emily said, starting to heal Sisi. While treating her, Emily worried about Kaia but couldn't leave.Joe struggled to drag Judo over. Sisi was nearly healed, regaining consciousness. "Hurry, use my magic," Joe said, channeling his energy to Emily, leaving himself unsteady. Emily, with no time to rest, absorbed it and began healing Judo. Joe, half-walking, half-resting, searched for survivors. Judo's injuries were severe; Emily drew on her own life force to heal him. Joe surveyed the devastation—no standing buildings, not even city walls. The others were likely gone. He called out, hoping for a response. Then he saw Kaia's holy sword on the ground, but no Kaia. Panic hit—had Kaia perished? He shouted Kaia's name. "I'm here~" a voice answered. Joe turned; it came from the sword. He picked it up, listening closely. "Kaia, is that you?" Joe asked. "I'm in the sword. My body was destroyed, so I used transfer magic to move my soul into it." "What?! Your body is gone? What now?" Joe, frantic, clutched the sword and ran to Emily. Judo was nearly healed, limbs restored. Emily, sweating, continued working. Joe waited quietly. When Judo was fully healed, Emily sighed in relief. Joe approached and said, "I found Kaia. He's... in the sword." Emily looked confused. "What?" "Kaia's body was destroyed. He transferred his soul into the sword," Joe explained. Emily nearly fainted.
