Chapter 29 - 29. Ghostgift

The corridors of Lombvár are covered with thick branches, the outer side of which is green with needles all year round. This is the only place in the territory of the Koál tribe where coniferous trees grow, even the forest around it is not a pine forest. This is what makes the residence of the Koál chief so special. The place where the tribe's most skilled ghost summoners and children of the high ranks are taught how to best use the ghost they summon, how to make contracts with them, how to summon them, and more.

Little Teveli also grew up in this place, ever since he could remember, the boy wanted to be a hegin, as big and strong as his uncle, about whom he had only heard stories. His father, who was the brother of this particular uncle, said that Teveli was named after his brother. It was for this reason that little Teveli did everything to be worthy of his memory.

His family told a lot about uncle Teveli, who was the right-hand man of the previous chieftain, who managed to make an alliance with a powerful ghost. He was described as a brave and kind, daring and talented gentleman. Little Teveli, on the other hand, could never meet this relative, because the uncle disappeared before he was born. He reportedly died during a mission given to him by the former chieftain. Uncle Teveli was the hero of the family, and little Teveli, who shared his name with him, constantly felt his uncle's influence around him, saw his father's sad look and decided to make a huge decision.

"Hey! Monster! Where are you going?" His fellow hegin students once shouted after him as he walked through the corridors of Lombvár. A group of boys and girls surrounded him. "When do you want to get a ghost?"

"Leave him alone!" One of the girls scolded the boy who was speaking, then laughed. "He doesn't even have the power to summon a ghost."

" You don't have the brains to understand why I don't have a ghost." Teveli whispered to himself.

"What did you say, little filth?!" The advocate boy's hands clenched into fists, but then a sharp laugh broke out from the far side of the corridor. The children's faces turned to the direction of the voice with pale and frightened eyes, the only one who did not react was Teveli.

"That the guta would hit him, it's him!" The one standing further back cursed.

"Let's get out of here while we still can." A girl also screamed, before the small group turned around and started running. However, Teveli just shook his head and continued down the corridor.

"I want to summon him. If it works, dad will be so happy." The child smiled.

"Hey! Kid!" Upon being addressed, Teveli immediately stopped and looked for the source of the voice, which was a smiling ghost with brown hair. "I heard what you said. Who do you want to summon?"

"My uncle." Teveli snapped at him.

"Have you tried?" Came the next question as the ghost stood in front of him with his arms clasped behind his back.

"Yes." Teveli nodded.

"And did it work?" The ghost asked.

"No." He frowned.

"Didn't you think that he might be alive? Then you will never be able to summon him. If you have no ghost, no one will recognize you, what are you going to do then?" The ghost explained.

"I'll trick them. If I can't summon him, then I'll be the strongest hegin with my mind." The boy smiled, and the ghost laughed and patted the boy on the shoulder.

"I like you, what's your name kid?" The ghost asked.

"Teveli." The young boy answered.

"You know who I am?" The ghost tilted his head to the side, but only received a nod. "Then why don't you run away like everyone else?"

"Firstly, you only harm those who are arrogant, secondly, you are just a ghost, I know how to defend myself against you. See you around, Kamu!" The boy waved and left the trouble-making ghost stuck to the center of the Koál tribe alone in the corridor, whom everyone avoided like a disease.

Everything went fine until a few hours later, but then someone called the boy over and commented to him that 'I see you finally managed to summon a ghost, Teveli. Congratulations!' The boy almost had a heart attack when he found the mark on his right shoulder that meant a ghost contract. He didn't understand how it got there, since he didn't make an alliance with a ghost. He hadn't even seen a ghost all day, well, he had seen one, but word had it that he didn't...

"Oh, would Athira chase him across the endless steppes!" The boy cursed when he realized that the impossible had happened. The trouble-making ghost of the Koál tribe, whom no one managed to bring into an alliance and with whom there was always only trouble, was now at his service. "No one should know about this, if they find out, I'm finished." He shook his head in confusion, then began to wander the corridors of Lombvár, to see if he could think of a solution. He was so lost in thought that he went straight into bars made out of tree.

"Oh, that turul bird whistling on the ice tree." He pressed his hand to his nose.

"What are you thinking about so much, young man?" He heard a kind voice before he raised his head. A man slightly older than his father sat on the other side of the bars , his blue eyes shone in a friendly way, and his brown hair rested loosely on his head, he was wearing the blue clothes of the tribe, but they were already quite faded.

"I..." Teveli began, but did not continue.

"Don't be afraid, no one will know from me." The man encouraged, while Teveli settled down next to the bars, pulled up his legs and put his arms around them.

"I wanted to summon the ghost of my uncle. I wanted h to be my ghost, everyone said I was just like him, but..." His voice stopped here.

"You are Teveli's nephew, right?" Came the question, and the boy nodded. "You really look like him. You say you wanted to summon hkm, that means it didn't work, right?" He received another nod in response." Then which ghost does that seal on your shoulder belong to?" He finally asked, and Teveli sighed.

"To the Koál troublemaking ghost." The boy said the ghost's nickname.

"It wouldn't be if that got out, would it?" Teveli heard the compassionate question and turned to the man in surprise. "No, it wouldn't. Maybe I can help you." Said the man.

"How?" Teveli asked enthusiastically.

"Kele." When the man said the name, a brown-haired ghost appeared next to him.

"What do you want, Idiot? Have you finally decided to ask for my help to get out of here?" The ghost asked.

"No, Kele. I am asking you to help this boy." The man pointed to Teveli, and the ghost turned towards him.

"Why should I he..." Suddenly the ghost hid behind the prisoned man. "Tell me he's not around." He begged.

"Who?" Teveli asked.

"My brother!" The ghost hissed, and another ghost appeared next to Teveli, Kamu, who spoke with a wide grin.

"Brother! It's been so long since you called me your brother. For this you can ask me a favor." Kele then looked at the prisoner and sighed.

"The kid is related to your stupid friend, huh?" When the man nodded to him, the ghost sighed again. "Listen, brother, I want you to leave the child alone. You can only appear next to him if he calls you."

"What?" Kamu and Teveli said surprised at the same time, although for different reasons.

"You bring trouble on the child's head if you show up next to him. We change! Boy, from today I will be your ghost." He puts his hand on Teveli's head.

"But, brother!" The troublemaker whined.

"Get out of here or I'm going to tell mom!" At this, the other ghost gave a hiss and disappeared.

"But that can't be..." Teveli muttered.

"Not normally, but you are like Teveli. You can even control the spirits of the living if you practice enough, you can also use the ghost of others if the ghost agrees." The prisoner explained.

"So kid, what should I call you?" Kele folded his arms in front of him.

"I am Teveli, sir, and I gratefully thank you for everything!" The boy smiled broadly as he stood up and bowed to them.

From then on, Teveli's ghost became Kele, with whom he continued to develop. And besides that, he developed his own abilities in his spare time, at first only on his own, during which he discovered that his spirit was able to leave his body and occupy the bodies of animals. Later, he developed the ability in the company of Suk, a child explorer whom he met through the Athamanas, thanks to which they discovered that they could change bodies.

"Teveli, Tev! I got it! I got it! I figured it out!" Suk ran enthusiastically towards his friend.

"How shall we do it then?" Teveli asked immediately. He didn't even have to ask, he knew it was about their joint research.

"Raise your hands. This wa,!" Suk grabbed his wrists and raised his hands to the height of his chest, then pressed his own hands on his palms, and an unpleasant stinging sensation ran through Teveli's body. "Now try to change!" He received the order, but in the next moment, instead of changing, Teveli moved forward, released the hand that was holding him and pulled out his weapon, which he pressed into the other's stomach. "Tev?"

"Shut up! You are not Suk. He would have easily counteracted this, it is common for them to attack people. Two!" Here he stepped back, pulled the blade out of the other's belly and turned away, closing his eyes. "This is the most embarrassing memory of my life. I know it didn't happen this way." He said.

"What didn't happen this way?" He heard Citar's voice and opened his eyes, only to find himself in a cave, which he looked around in surprise.

"How did we get here? Where are Suk and the bosses?" He asked with pure concern in his voice. Something was wrong, he just didn't know what it was.
