Few Days Later:-
Gojo walked toward the facility where Robot was setting up interviews for the new Guardians of the Globe, his hands stuffed in his pockets, sunglasses on his face covering his eyes.
He hadn't said it out loud—didn't really need to—but he'd missed a big plot point from the Invincible show, and it nagged at him a little.
A few days back, after he'd given the Teen Team his quick "Cursed Energy 101" lesson at their base, things had settled down. He'd explained CE in simple terms, emotional static, power from bad vibes, all that jazz, and they'd mostly nodded along.
Eve had tossed a couple of follow-up questions his way, curious about how it fueled him, while Robot drilled him on the mechanics, asking about energy output and limits.
Rex and Dupli-Kate just shrugged it off, and soon enough, everyone split—Gojo heading out, Robot off to prep for his new gig, and Eve stepping away too.
What Gojo hadn't clocked, what plenty of fans would've guessed, was what went down after he left the base.
Rex and Dupli-Kate stayed behind, alone together, and it wasn't the first time they'd snuck off for some "fun."
They'd been at it for a while, hooking up behind Eve's back, usually in the bathroom when the coast was clear.
Gojo had known it was coming—Rex cheating with Dupli-Kate was straight out of the show's playbook—but he'd figured it'd hit a day or two later, not that day, right after the Flaxan attack.
He'd been so caught up with the invasion, Cecil's grilling, and his little CE lecture that he didn't see it lining up. Big mistake.
That very day, Atom Eve had walked back into the base, maybe to grab something, maybe just bad timing, and caught them red-handed.
Not in the shower like Gojo might've pictured, but sprawled out on the couch, fully naked. Rex was kicked back, grinning like a king, while Dupli-Kate straddled him, doing all the work.
Eve froze in the doorway, her pink energy flickering as the scene burned into her brain, her boyfriend and her teammate, tangled up without a shred of shame.
Gojo wasn't there to see it, but he could imagine the fallout: Eve's shock turning to fury, Rex stammering excuses, Dupli-Kate scrambling for clothes.
He'd wanted to catch it on video—blackmail gold to make Rex silent or more like viral him… or something more dumb—but the timing blindsided him.
'Should've known,' he thought later, smirking despite himself.
Now, five days later, he stood in the facility Robot had picked for the Guardians interviews, a sleek GDA building with clean lines and humming tech.
The Flaxan fight was old news, Cecil was off his back for now, and the Teen Team was still reeling from Eve catching Rex.
Gojo had heard the whispers, Eve hadn't spoken to Rex since, and Dupli-Kate was keeping her head low. Robot, though, was all business, standing at the front of a makeshift briefing room, explaining the criteria for the new Guardians.
A handful of wannabe heroes milled around, some in flashy costumes, others in street gear, listening as Robot laid out the plan in his calm, clipped voice.
"All Candidates will be assessed on combat ability, teamwork, and strategic thinking," he said, glowing eyes scanning the group. "Matches will be arranged to test compatibility—observe who fights well with whom."
Gojo mind wandering as Robot droned on about the Guardians of the Globe recruitment. It'd been five days since the Flaxans invasion, and now that he thought about it, those green creeps hadn't come back.
'Must've been decades for them,' he mused, smirking faintly. Time ran weird in their dimension, way faster than Earth's, so a few days here could've been a lifetime there.
Omni-Man was due to wake up any day now, patched up in that GDA med bay. And Mark, Invincible, was here too, leaning against a wall in his yellow-and-blue suit, arms crossed.
He wasn't joining the tryouts, though, just watching, his face tight with something Gojo couldn't quite read.
Earlier, Robot had cornered Mark, offering him a spot on the new Guardians. "Your abilities would be an asset," Robot had said, voice steady as always. Mark shook his head fast, waving it off.
"Nah, man, I can't—school's a thing, homework's piling up, and it just won't fit my schedule. Plus, y'know, other stuff." His excuses sounded flimsy, like in the show, and Gojo caught the real vibe: Mark wasn't ready for that weight, not after his dad's mess.
Atom Eve had turned it down too, no surprise there, Rex and Dupli-Kate's couch stunt five days back had left her done with the team. She wasn't here today, probably off somewhere licking her wounds.
Gojo tuned back into the room, scanning the crowd. Robot wanted to shake up the roster, bring in fresh faces, but he didn't know the hero scene too well yet.
Gojo, though, had a few names in mind from the show. Bulletproof was one, tough, reliable, standing a few feet away in his sleek black-and-orange suit, nodding along to Robot's spiel. Gojo had already nudged Robot about him.
"Guy's solid—strong, takes hits like a champ," he'd said, and Robot agreed, adding Bulletproof to the list. Still, he'd have to test like everyone else for the convenience.
Tech Jacket was another Gojo wanted, that high-tech armor kid, but he wasn't around, off-planet or just MIA, no clue.
Then there was Spawn, dark, gritty, a solo act. Gojo figured he wouldn't bite even if he was in this universe; the guy's whole deal screamed "lone wolf," and he'd scoff at the Guardians' team vibe.
'Haven't even checked if he's real here,' Gojo thought, shrugging it off.
He shifted his weight, standing between Bulletproof and a dozen other heroes, some in flashy capes, others in patched-up gear, all listening to Robot's "gibberish." Gojo smirked; the guy was laying out rules and expectations like a teacher reading a syllabus.
"Combat proficiency, adaptability, and team cohesion are critical," Robot said, his glowing eyes sweeping the room. "Tests will determine your suitability." Gojo adjusted his sunglasses, half-listening.
Bulletproof was in, but he'd have to scrap like the rest—same as Gojo.
'Fair enough,' he thought. 'Let's see who's worth keeping.'
Robot wrapped up his speech, voice cutting through the chatter. "The recruitment test begins now. I will announce matchups—observe your assigned opponents." The crowd tensed, eyes darting as names started rolling out.
