Shan had called the ambulance after Ingrid left half an hour earlier. When the medics arrived, they escorted the pregnant woman inside, and one of the nurses asked him to follow them to the hospital.
As Shan made his way to the hospital, the surgeons approached him, urgently explaining that the pregnant woman needed immediate surgery and required his signature to proceed. "Sir, the lady you've saved is in critical condition and needs dire surgery right now," said one of the surgeons.
"Wait, wait, wait! I'm barely making ends meet, and I don't even know her!" Shan replied, panic rising in his chest.
He watched as a defibrillator was wheeled past him into the room where the pregnant woman lay. ".... fuck it. Where should I sign?" Without hesitation, Shan asked the surgeon, who quickly showed him the documents. He signed the papers, and the surgery began, lasting around twelve grueling hours.
Meanwhile, in Ingrid's apartment, she stood in the shower, droplets of water cascading down her slender body. She closed her eyes, haunted by the memory of what she had done. Not only had she knocked the pregnant woman over, but she had run her over as well. Looking down at her hands, she felt a wave of fear wash over her, her skin pale and clammy.
Ingrid stepped out of the bathroom, wrapping herself in a robe that accentuated her long, slender legs. As she made her way to the living room to grab a can of beer, she spotted her daughter, Kim Yeon Mikage, age 15, receiving a tutoring lesson from her tutor.
"Kim Yeon, stop trying to flatter your tutor," Ingrid teased, eliciting a groan from her daughter. "Moooommm..., stop it! It's embarrassing!" Kim Yeon protested, while the tutor, Bae Sik Gong, blushed at the sight of Ingrid. He had come to their apartment not just to teach but because he harbored a crush on her, despite being in college.
After a few cans of beer, Ingrid fell asleep on her bed, plagued by dreams of the accident. "WHY DID YOU KILL MY CHILDDD?!" she screamed, waking up in a cold sweat. She glanced at the clock—it was now 12 a.m. Trying to shake off the remnants of her nightmare, she turned over and fell back asleep, desperate to escape her guilt.
At the hospital, the surgeons emerged with grim news: the pregnant woman had suffered a miscarriage and lost her unborn child. Shan listened to the surgeon's explanation, his heart sinking. "How is she now?" he asked, his voice trembling.
"She's stable for now, but we recommend you let her rest before we deliver the news to her husband," the surgeon replied.
"Alright." Shan said as he walked out of the hospital, he wandered the streets of Seoul, phone in hand, and stumbled upon a video of the accident he recorded. He turned to see a betting shop, where a man had just won 200 million South Korean won. Then he glanced at a building's TV board, which announced that the stock market had surged by 900% in a matter of minutes.
Sighing deeply, Shan continued to walk, lost in thought. He stopped at a local nightclub and ordered a private room. The hostess poured him a drink and made small talk, but he sat there quietly, consumed by his thoughts. "Why... just why?! Why didn't I turn in the person responsible for my suffering?" he asked himself.
His gaze fell on the hostess as she flirtatiously revealed her assets, a hint that his time was almost up. But as he looked at her, his mind raced back to Ingrid's words, Rae Yoorin's accusations, the mistreatment he had endured for a small mistake, and the disdain he felt from others.
"Mister?" the hostess asked, noticing his distant expression.
"ZIP IT!" Shan snapped, lunging toward her and forcing her into submission. "SAY IT AGAIN. CALL ME A PERVERT AGAIN, YOU PIECE OF MEAT!" he shouted, his anger boiling over as he roughly took control.
"What's wrong...?" the hostess whimpered, but Shan was lost in a whirlwind of rage and despair, each thrust deeper than the last.
In his mind, he thought, "Amidst all the chaos and pleasure, combined with wrath and despair... I realized that the reason I didn't turn her in was that the demonic beast within me instinctively felt that what I had witnessed had given me the power to change everything."
"Hehehe..." Shan smirked as the hostess moaned in ecstasy, begging for more. Later, he returned to his apartment and took a shower. Staring at his reflection in the mirror, he admired his muscular, athletic build. After dressing in a white shirt and black jeans, he approached his altar and retrieved two slips of paper, writing on them before rolling them up and praying to the Goddess Mahakali.
He shook the two rolled slips in his hands and dropped them in front of the statue. Choosing one, he revealed the word "Himself." A smile crept across his face as he burned the slip in the fire. The other slip, which hinted at "For them," was tossed into the bin. Shan had made his decision: to be himself and do whatever he deemed necessary.
As he made his way to the rooftop, he stood at the edge, gazing down at the sprawling city of Seoul. With determination, he smirked and declared, "Let's begin." Without hesitation, he jumped off the roof. As he fell, his life flashed before his eyes, and he smiled, embracing the fear as his body hit the ground. Everything went black—Shan was dead.
But then, he opened his eyes to find himself back in the hospital. Confronted by the surgeons, they urged him to sign the documents. Shan smiled, realizing he had returned to the past. He quickly signed the papers, and once the operation began, he dashed out of the hospital and straight into the betting shop.
"I'm betting everything I have on my card—make it fast!" he demanded, scribbling down the numbers he remembered from the previous winner and handing them to the cashier. Minutes later, he had won 500 million South Korean won based from his saving account card.
With his winnings in hand, Shan rushed to the Korean bank and called for the manager. "I want to invest 200 million won into stocks right now!" he insisted, and the manager guided him to the appropriate department. After handing over the check and selecting stocks based on his previous knowledge, he watched in awe as the market surged to 900%. Shan now had 5 billion won at his disposal, and after the settlements were completed, he received a new black premium credit/debit card.
Returning to the hospital, he waited anxiously for the operation to finish. When the surgeon finally emerged, he delivered the good news, the surgery was successful, and both the pregnant woman and her child were safe. Shan was shocked; he remembered that before he died, the woman had suffered a miscarriage. "Must be the butterfly effect," he thought, grateful for the unexpected turn of events. He thanked the surgeons and paid the receptionist for the treatment and medication.
Entering the room, Shan saw the woman he had saved. She looked at him with gratitude. "Were you the person who saved me?" she asked.
"Yeah, I was just there and saw you on the ground, covered in blood. I did what I thought was right," Shan replied, maintaining a poker face as he concealed the truth about the accident.
She introduced herself as Kim Ju On, and they chatted for a while. Later, her husband arrived, and Kim Ju On explained, "Thank you... thank you for saving my precious wife and our child. I'm Kei Kun Sook, by the way. What's your name?"
"Wolf, Shan Wolf," he replied.
"Well, Shan Wolf, if you need anything...anything at all, let us know. We can't thank you enough," Kei Kun Sook said, handing Shan his business card. Shan accepted it, saying, "No worries. I just did what any decent human being would do." He left the room, allowing them their privacy.
As Shan walked through the streets, he stopped by a hair salon. "Make it a normal cut, please," he instructed the hairdresser. Afterward, he visited a shopping mall and bought himself some clothes, favoring black and blue, his favorite colors.
Back at his apartment, he took another shower. Once he was clean, he dressed in casual clothes and settled on his sofa, opening his computer to the 'Won Group' website. He researched Ingrid and the Chairman, but found nothing. "Hmmm... something's not right. Leave it, I have what I need." he muttered, uploading the proof of Ingrid's hit-and-run video and photos to his pendrive and making a copy to his computer.
After a light dinner, Shan drifted off to sleep, ready to face whatever came next as the stage was set for his personnal revenge against Ingrid.
