Chapter 8 - This is Impossible!

-A week later-

"Hey Thor, you wanna have a spar? No weapons?" I ask as we walk the halls, our footsteps echoing off the immense walls. We are walking to the library to try to figure out what my divinity might be and to see if there's maybe some hint somewhere. Loki's coming too, mostly because he just wants to study more magic. However, I can tell that Thor really doesn't want to do any studying, so I decide to test out my unlocked divinity. I can feel something waiting to be activated, like a energy pulsing within my body just waiting to be set free.

"Haha! You read my mind, brother! Let us go spar! Loki, youre coming too!" Thor announces, turning down a corridor leading to the training ground, dragging Loki behind him as I run ahead. "Using Mjolnir feels like cheating sometimes anyways, so getting a good hand-to-hand fight in sometimes just feels good!"

"I imagine, that thing is basically a cheat code. I wish i had an Uru weapon." I say, a pout forming on my face.

"Don't fret Verdi, I'm certain Father would be willing to have the dwarves forge something for you eventually. I'm sure you just have to earn it! Now, onwards! To battle! HAHAHA!" Thor announces, running ahead.

-

As we arrive at the training ground, Thor dropping Loki on the ground unceremoniously, I walk over to one of the open sparring grounds. There are sounds of warriors training all around us, grunting and yelling and the clanging of asgardian steel ringing through the air.

"Hey Loki, would you ever want to have a weapon forged for you?" I ask casually, though I imagine that he doesn't really need one.

"Magic is the only weapon I need, at least that's what Mother told me. I'm not good enough with it yet to be able to fight, but I'm sure I'll get there eventually. Though it may take a few hundred years. Asgardian magic is so complicated..." He replies, sitting on a chair overlooking our sparring area, opening a book labeled "Asgardian Magic for Advanced Users- By Freyja" and turning to his saved page.

"I can't wait to get back to my mission on Midgard; It's so beautiful there! Not to mention, I kinda like the Eternals, they're cool." I say, doing dynamic stretches as I prepare myself to duel my brother, who is slightly taller than me by a single inch, but is stronger than me by an incredible margin, even as early in his life as it is. Every time I spar with him, its like trying to stop a bull with my bare hands as a normal human, a damn near impossible feat.

"Ready, little brother!" Thor says, having done his stretches and set Mjolnir on the ground next to the fighting area.

"Let's Go!" I say, launching at him as quickly as possible. He puts his arms up in defense, getting into a fighting stance as he prepares for our clash. I reach him in less than a second, planting my left foot on the ground and launching into an overhead spinning roundhouse. Thor blocks with some effort before trying and failing to land a punch on my abdomen. I dodge by twisting my body midair, and then reach my hands to the floor, and push with my arms to jump backwards. I land gracefully, before quickly turning around finding Thor already on me. He throws a haymaker, trying to knock me out, a smile on his face. I dodge, but just barely, and I use his momentum to grab him and throw him over my head. He twists his body and somehow manages to land on his feet, before turning and hitting me with a roundhouse. I launch backwards, slamming onto the ground, and rolling back. I can tell he went easy on me right there so as to not hurt me, which is just a little scary to think about. Even so, he still knocked the wind out of me, and I'm sitting on the ground clutching my stomach for 10 seconds before I can breathe again.

"*Cough* Fuck, Thor, you hit like a damn rhino."

"Don't let Mom hear you talking like that, haha!" Thor says, walking over and lending me a hand.

"Wanna go again."

"Of course, is that even a question?" I say, already up and ready for another go. "I'm gonna try and use my power now though, so lets see what it can do!"

"Huh? Your power? Alright, but try not to kill me, alright?" Thor jokes, a small chuckle escaping his lips. He gets into a fighting stance as I close my eyes. I try and feel for that energy that I've been holding back, and within a few seconds, I activate it, the energy slowly pooling in my eyes, which I had expected.

But as soon as I open my eyes, I start seeing doubles. There's no pain, but just having everything look like this is really strange. The strange part is that I'm only seeing doubles of people. Each person in my line of sight looks as if there are two people moving at nearly the same time. However, the people who are not moving, like Thor, don't have a 'body double'.

"Woah, this is trippy." I say, looking around, my vision landing on Loki, who is reading his book with his legs propped up. I see his 'body double' move its arm to turn the page about a second before Loki's real arm does it, and it's right then that it clicks.

"I can see the future!" I yell out, clutching my head in disbelief, a huge smile on my face. Loki looks up from his book in shock, staring at me after my outburst, and Thor does a similar action.

"What?!""What?!" They exclaim at the same time.

"I can see about a second into the future! This is crazy! HAHA!" I exclaim, literally jumping for joy. "Alright Thor, lets go! Let's see how much of an advantage I have now!"

-Three hours later-

"This is impossible! FUCK!" I yell out, lying on the ground, completely exhausted, having lost every spar for the past three hours, and completely exhausting my internal energy reserves. "Why can't I beat you?!"

"I'm just better, little brother. Accept it! HAHA!" Thor says, laughing arrogantly. There's barely a scratch on him, and he's not even tired. Basically, yes, I could see the future, but for the first hour, I couldn't even get used to it; his future vision was more detrimental than anything, and it threw off my timing. I would move before I needed to, Thor would react, and the future would change to my face getting pummeled. However, once I got used to the new vision, it didn't even matter because Thor is just built different. I would catch him off guard with a kick, but most of the time he just ate it and pummeled me right back. He also quickly adapted to the fact that I could see a full second into the future, and started planning moves well in advance, to the point where I would fall for his traps. this continued for three hours, until I couldn't even get up anymore.

"you're bullshit, Thor. Why are you so strong?" I whine out, like a child who lost in a video game. My face is covered in bruises, and my body is black and blue. I'm used to it, though, and I'll probably be back to 100% tomorrow morning.

"Haha, yoou'll get there little brother! I've got a decade and a half on you, so until I hit a wall in my training you'll never catch up." Despite my annoyance at having lost, I'm actually pretty excited, after all having future sight is a permantent protection against sucker punches. Not to mention, I feel as If this power can get better, given time.

Suddenly, Freyja walks into the training ground, sees me on the ground and chuckles, "Thor really did a number on you, huh Verdi? He didn't bully you too bad did he?" She asks, to which I shake my head.

"No, mother, he didn't. I was having Thor help me test my new power!" I say, trying to get up and failing miserably. "I can see a full second into the future! I only lost to Thor because he's stupid strong, basically a cheater." I say, giving up on rising, instead just lying there in pain.

"Future vision, huh? That is sure to be a mighty ability, once you get the hang of it." Freyja replies, a smile on her face at the thought of me growing strong.

"I bet once I get better with magic that I'll be able to beat the two of you with one hand behind by back." Loki comments, still reading his book. Thor and I both look at him with flat expressions, not giving into his taunts.

"I'm sure once you get to that point, Thor'll have taken the throne, which of course will never happen, cause he's a loudmouth brat." I say teasingly from the ground, getting a shocked and angry look out of Thor.

"Hey! You wanna get pummeled again, Brat!" Both Thor and Loki say at the same time, having fallen for my taunt.

We all laugh and joke around for the next 20 minutes or so, before mother leaves and Loki follows, leaving just me and Thor, who takes his leave soon after, leaving me alone in the sparring ground.

"Thor! Please don't leave me here! I can't get up! Thor! THOR!" I cry out, hearing him laugh from the halls as he walks away.
