Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Gates to the unknown power

Jerry's POV:

Tap Tap! Is the sound my cane makes as I go downhill. [Nature perception] was active as the spreading waves formed a picturize view in warped mind as my surrounds became clear, houses, a hole radiating heat, and parked cars. The waves expanded out to near proximities as I approached. The sound of burning fire and burnt corpse engulfed my senses. I had to cover my nose in disgust to keep from puking on the ground. Suddenly, my ears picked up on something other than the fire's constant burn and the sizzling of human remains, which emitted a terrible odor that I still closed off.

'Are those cries?' I said inwardly, "Let's be sure before I make a blind effort into uncharted territory." I snap my fingers, and a small ball of black fluff arises and immediately altered when I twist my fingers, turning into a small tornado, swirling in my outstretched hand as I whisper a command:

'Find the source'

The tornado escaped my hold and flew beyond the flames to a small barn shed next to the larger one, which I identified with [nature perception]. The mist is a pervasive force that serves as my distant senses, which include sight, smell, and touch. It was a gift bestowed upon me after I defeated my challenge with the old man; all I had to do was endure his lethal smoke from his overcompensating pipe to attain it.

It entered via the upper window, hid behind the straws and crops, and then came out to survey the barn. The barn was silent, with straw and hay scattered about. Because we both use the same communication signals, I can peer through the mist as if I still had eyes, seeing what the mist includes with its spread wide body of gas.

There are no hostiles present; it's possible that they took the creature with them to increase its security. The Muntante's team is the cleanup crew." The mist traveled down the upper floor to an area not covered by straws and hay, where it discovered a torn-up wooden door with visible metal tools inside. A small light flickered behind some wooden panels, and the mist's shared sense with me heard the voice, which became fainter and fainter as it turned, it moved and slowly filled the crevices in the wood openings.

It appeared on the other side of a massive, hollow home structure, smelling of feces, wet muck, and urine. The mist changed form according to my expressions somewhat as my senses became aware of what was within this region. Something about this scene felt strange, and it made me hope that having my sight removed was a good thing that happened, since I should not have witnessed this.

I could see a gathering of nude people being closely together in this empty crevice of humanistic torture after the mist covered the corner of spread-out senses. Females and children with empty, forlorn, and grey eyes stared quietly at the metal door, which flickered with light.

I sighed at the circumstance and told the mist to transmit my voice to the people; there are no words I can say to make this situation feel like the hero has arrived. That bastard Elliot was the one who brought me here, even if I didn't initially intend to be here. Though I had no idea what these people had been through, I knew what had to be done at this moment. I took a deep breath and spoke, my voice rising from the haze:

"Hello everyone, I'm Jerry. Could you please show me the exit? I mean the mist. If you do, I'll get you out of here, but you'll need to assist me with something. Does that sound good?

"Hello everyone, I'm Jerry. Could you please show me the exit? I mean the mist. If you do, I'll get you out of here, but you'll need to assist me with something. Does that sound good?

After two minutes or so of stillness, a young man got up from the gathering of kids. He appeared to be in his early teens, bald, and dressed in shorts coated in muck, feces, and urine based on the odor I detected. He added:

"I'm #7, and these individuals are my... family. Some have been unwell, hungry, and thirsty for several days. Sorry we couldn't be cheering for your present rescue right now; we're weary, and yes, I'll help on their behalf. The boy spoke respectfully.

He pointed at the group that had heard me speak to #7; I took a breath as #7 led the mist as requested; my energy was depleted from [Nature awareness], so I was depleting my reservoir on movement, and I needed the kid's assistance to pull the mist, which I partially solidified to aid with grasp. The mist filled in the crevices in the metal door and solidified, expanding its mass and constantly becoming solid like a rock and tough ice. It broke the heavy industrial door with weight alone as it was brought down with a loud thud!

I heard the sound and commanded the mist to expand its body and senses as I felt the presence of Jericho's sons and daughters nearby; however, I didn't sense them at all with [Nature perception]; I walked with a calm pace as [Nature perception] did its job with the energy I nearly burned with opening the door with the mist; my cane met the ground and spread the waves and ripples with the continuous tapping sounds. When I sensed them, there were two hostiles rushing toward the underground door.

I immediately ordered the mist to cover the entrance and underground with thick mist, causing it to expand in the chamber. As I ran to the opposite side of the barn, the waves guided me there. Sensing that I had blown a shrill whistle that could be heard from down there, the hostiles paused and split off as one goes to the underground while the other was coming for me.

The hostile approached the door and carefully opened it; fortunately, I was there and ready. I hoped I was prepared because I would be relying on bodily energy rather than my ability essences, which I expected to be a problem.

When the door opened and the rifle's nose appeared, I was able to detect it with my nose. I quickly grasped the assault gun's nose, which caused the air to tremble with gunfire as I aimed it in the proper direction. I smacked the person's nose and used the grip and cane to form a lock-on grapple with their weapon. I leveraged the person's strength on the gun to pull them in for a headbutt, prompting him to retaliate with a kick to my gut.

As a result, I collapsed on the ground, one hand grasping a handful of soil and dust and throwing it at the hostile's upper previous place of the hostile's face. I got up and hurried to the opposite side of the barn, hoping the dust would reach their eyes. Fortunately, it did.

The noises of the gun being fired were behind me as I sprinted along the wall to guide myself into a turn with my hands; the structure felt small and almost curving, and I did a fast turn and took off. The hostiles followed carefully, rubbing dust from their eyes.

I slowly ran around the barn, to the entrance that the enemy had opened, and followed my nose into the nasty subterranean.

Thank goodness the people were saved because my nose did not catch any smell of blood. The mist distracted the hostile, who continued to fire his gun at the black mass in bewilderment. I sneaked up on him and terminated him with a chokehold that I drove to the ground by hooking his legs down to the hard surface on his front, breaking some bones in the process.

'Good, I hope I shattered something in that Stoneheart you guys have,' I thought, gritting my teeth.

I removed one of my hands from the hold and pounded the outer ear to get to the eardrum with enough force to bleed, causing the enemy to scream in pain as I command the mist to solidify into a knife as I iron grasped it and constantly stabbed at the head and the punched ear until blood flowed.

The sound of the opponent being killed could be heard as the dull eyed people who were moved by Seven started to stared at me killing someone. Some were confused and some were surprised, but I was too preoccupied with stabbing the hostile to notice.

Suddenly I felt cold steel poking the back of my head. "Drop the knife, kid."

'Oops'

I did as instructed and dropped the knife, mentally telling the mist to be ready to act on my word when I sensed danger was dropping, making a sound like a metal pin meets the hard surface. The hostile sounded like a man holding a rifle to my head, the same gun I had escaped from a while ago.

"Stand up slowly, with your hands where I can see them on top of your head" and I did so.

The man then gave the order:

 "Turn around."

I answered:

 "Not a chance in hell."

He then puts the rifle to my head and utters:

"I will blow your head off you don't do what I say boy"

 I smiled and added:

"Okay, and as an added bonus, I'll take this off," I said, pointing to my fold as I gently loosened it. Despite not recognizing me, he allowed me to do something he shouldn't have. That would mean that Jericho was really wrong to keep me from them.

I removed my blindfold and turned around; the man let out a shocked gasp. I said:

"Now you'd harm little ole me, wouldn't you?"

My empty sockets may have appeared to him as an abyss-seeking hole as he stood there, enthralled and perplexed, but neither he nor I could see it. But I understood from memory what was being seen; a swirl was continuing to flow; hypnotized, he dropped his rifle, and I commanded the knife to fly behind the man as I stated:

The knife abruptly went through the chest to the heart, got out of the chest passed beneath the chin, and emerged from the brain and skull leaving a hole on top of the head. I grabbed the man's throat and, before he could fall down and said to his lifeless body:

"I'm sorry, friend. My given eyes aren't designed to see or be seen. This is the penalty for my misfortune, my transgressions, and my decisions. I must thus keep my eye sockets closed in order to avoid burdening the innocent or the guilty; the high price is that your soul will remain here and nowhere else." I released my grip on the body and let it fall down next to his fellow brother.

I took a breath and said softly:

"#7 don't get close" I added that as I heard footsteps behind me, the mist transformed into a gas cloud and disappeared.

I hastily searched the ground for my blindfold as I heard seven approaching.

"Seven, don't get close," I yelled.

But seven didn't stop as he picked up something nearby and tapped my shoulder.

"I heard and understood, here. "I believe this belongs to it." He offered me a lightweight towel, which I knotted around my eye sockets. I took a breath and said:

"Thanks, Seven, now let's get your family out of here" I patted him on the shoulder as he directed me to his kidnapped family.
