Mei had been waiting outside since I entered, she had not left. She was crouched outside, beside the door and looked up when I emerged.
"Done already?"
I nodded and shut the door behind me.
"Yeah. I got what I wanted."
She stood from where she was crouching and began walking away, I followed closely behind her. The entire village was in chaos, not complete chaos but there was obviously no order. Men were tied up like animals and even though I had said it was none of my business what the women chose to do with them, I had wished I was not there to witness it.
"What did you talk about?"
Mei's voice jolted me from my train of thought as she suddenly appeared beside me. We were now walking side by side. I turned my head to look at her, she was smiling, it was an awkward smile. She was not asking me for small talk, she asked because she noticed that I had been staring at our surroundings.
She probably felt the same way I did. Probably.
