Chapter 66 - Coin Flip on Life

I didn't wake up lying on the mattress this time, I was sitting with my back against a wall.

"Your back hurts eh?"

There's immediately no chance I'm just a regular officer then. I rubbed my blurry eyes to get a better view of the man in front of me.

I'm probably a traitor, the man in front of me had tattered clothings and messy hair, typical look of a soldier in this dystopian future.

"Your main objective: Find the King of Spades, kill the King of Spades and his subordinate." My earpiece informed, if I'm on the Diamonds side, that means...

"Hi." The man in front of me wave with a warm and cheerful smile, unusual for someone living in such a condition.

"Are you the King of Diamonds."

"Straight to the point! How'd you even guess that though? Did he tell you?" The man sitting right in front of me was very enthusiastic and animated, he looks like he's jumping with every words.

"Did who tell me?" I found that question of his incredibly intriguing.

"Uhhhhhh I believe...Ghostdoctor?"

Wh-what?

Since this game is fake, is there a chance a player snuck into the games and disguised themselves as an npc?

"Are you a player."

"Nope, very much King of Diamonds."

"Prove it."

He gave an exasperated look before pulling out a poker card from his pants' pocket, indeed, it's the card of the King of Diamonds.

"That doesn't prove it, you could've snucked in, killed King of Diamonds and took his card." I'm 99% sure this I'm looking at is an impostor, a player playing npc, there's no way an npc should know about the game, let alone Ghostdoctor.

I drew my newly upgraded iron sword while still sat on the mattress. In terms of appearance, it's still an ordinary greatsword. What's different is that it's at the perfect weight for me to wield and control, the grip is stable and the blade is sharp enough to cut through pure steel.

"State exactly who you are." I said while pointing the tip of my sword to his face.

"Unlock! Lock!" He yelled those two words quickly and caused a click sound from the door. The door unlocked and locked on his command.

Ghostdoctor had mentioned this...

King of Diamonds and King of Clubs has their own abilities too.

For King of Diamonds, anything he touched with his palms for more than 1 minute can be controlled by him telekinetically, it's like connecting a Bluetooth device. It can only be inanimate objects though.

For King of Clubs, he can travel in the form of shadows. He can turn into a mere shadow in the wall and travel in that form as long as light is present. He is invulnerable in his shadow form but harmless as well.

Is this the King of Diamonds' ability in action? He just controlled the lock on the door telekinetically.

"He should've told you I can do that too. I mean come on, that's sufficient proof that I'm King of Diamonds."

"No it's not, you could just be a player who happens to have similar abilities."

"Oh come on! What's the odds of that?!" He was very frustrated, but I refuse to let my guards down and kept the sword pointed at him. He lets out a disappointed sigh.

"Tsk, I hate dealing with sharp kids." He ranted, "Well whatever." Then grabbed the blade of my sword with his mere palms.

"What are you doing?"

"Just wait a minute, literally a minute."

I had grown impatient, I swing the sword with intentions to cut the fingers off his hand. Yet I missed, it was point blank range and I still missed, his evasion of my attack was so fast my eyes couldn't capture it.

"Be patient damn it! It's one minute man! I don't wanna kill you!"

That's a threat, I stood up, held my sword up high ready to slice the door open to escape. But before that, the luggage in the room came flying to my head. I didn't train my physical abilities like agility, all I have is a very strong maxed out weapon, I couldn't evade the luggage, and got knocked unconscious by it.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎

I woke up again finding myself tied by ropes on an office chair, still in the same room, and my sword was in his hands.

"I just want to talk, Sean." He said while pointing the tip of my sword to my face, he even knows my name, Ghostdoctor didn't tell me this would happen.

"Who are you?"

"KING OF DIAMONDS HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I SAID THAT?!" He yelled out before shaking his head to calm himself, "Sorry, but you're a pain in the ass."

"What are you doing to me?"

"Um, well I wanna talk, after talking I'll tell you your job in this stage don't worry about it. Actually, did he already tell you about how this stage will go?"

I'm so confused right now, but I'm tied up, I'm the one at a disadvantage here, I might as well comply with his questionings.

"He did."

"He told you like, there's four characters, you kinda wanna kill eachother, you being attached to a King means you have 50/50 chance of living. Actually I bet he'd be creative when saying that, I bet he told you it's a coin flip on life, didn't he?"

The hell? That's exactly how Ghostdoctor described being attached to a King.

"Who actually are you? A friend of Ghostdoctor?"

"Aw man, it's so rare seeing you all discombobulated, it's so rare man. I'm terrified of you, you know? I might be dancing in your palms right now and I wouldn't know."

"I don't know what are you talking about."

"I mean how? Really? Normally people would be panicking if I'm in front of them, but you, nah nah, you drew your sword, ready to fight. And even after being tied up and immobilized, you're still cool as a cucumber."

Thanks for the compliment, but everything about this right now is still creeping me out.

"If you really are the King of Diamonds, shouldn't you let me out right now? I'm absent for a long time, I'm probably now their prime suspect for being attached to a King."

"It's absolute chaos out there, don't worry about it. They're probably fighting it out like cavemen as we speak, no one will know you ain't there.

So like I said, let's talk! Since you know your job already and all. After we talk, I'll let you out there in the chaos."

I was hesitant, but I really don't have much of a choice but to go along with this strange npc that somehow knows names of players, and even knows Ghostdoctor well enough to predict his words.

"What do you want to talk about?"

"Ummm let's see here... let's start with, how many people have you killed so far?"
