Chapter 56 - My Redemption

"SARAH!"

Sarah was shot, I stood frozen where I am while Eric cries, he holds her in his arms, dirtying himself with her blood.

"Oi." Manager kicks Eric away from Sarah then holds him at gunpoint, disallowing any movements from him aside from devastated cries.

Manager picks his phone back up into his pocket, then asks with a strict face, "Tell me everything you saw, and maybe I can spare you."

But Eric couldn't answer, nor can he move, all he can do was stare at Sarah's dying body, jaw dropped and tears falling.

Why is this scene so familiar to me...

It's the same exact situation with Mr. Anthony. The second people are nice to me, the second people helps lift me up, I have to witness a tragedy unfold right in front of me.

This situation isn't just similar to that scene with Mr. Anthony though.

I picked up a sharp scalpel from the operating table beside me. This situation is also similar to my retaliation against that guy with the compass needle.

My hands were trembling, my palms were sweating, why am I frozen again? Why am I so helpless...

"Oi, finding replacements is annoying, tell me how much you know." Manager coerces.

Aren't you the one that told me, "Stop acting as though you're so helpless when there's clearly something you can do."

I think I'm gonna heed that advice this time, manager. I'm so sick of being helpless, I'm so sick of not being to do anything and just let people like you hurt me.

I have the power to do something right now, the key to save something precious to me right in my palms.

I intend to take a chance, shoot my shot this time, I want to live, just fucking let me live.

"AHHH!"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎

"You're right dickhead, there is something I can do..."

Eric stared at me flabbergasted, I was covered in the manager's blood, I didn't just stab him once, I tore his face apart.

Eric's shocked face soon turns to a terrified one when I avert my gaze to him, I probably didn't look human at the moment, but I finally succeeded in standing up for myself, for once, I did it.

"We need to get out of here."

Eric heavy breaths gradually calms down as he regains his composure.

"Man we're dead...we're dead man..."

"That's not happening this time."

This time, I will stop being a coward, I will stop shrinking in fear, I will live.

I took everything in the operating theater that looked useful for escaping, and also donned the black trench coat the manager was wearing.

The coat was stained in blood, but thanks to it's dark colour, the blood stains wasn't prominent.

"What are you doing dude."

"Has more pockets I can hold more stuff that could be useful." I hurriedly place all the items I found useful into the pockets on the trench coat.

"Alright let's-" while turning, I noticed the surgeon just exiting from the lavatory, he sees my blood stained face, shrinks back in and locked the door.

"Let's go." I reiterated.

"What about Sarah?"

I stared back down at Sarah's corpse after Eric said that, I still lost something, and that still hits me hard like a train.

I looked around the operating theater hoping for something that we could use to transport Sarah's body, hopefully give her a proper funeral once we get out of here.

It's idealistic, but I can't bring myself to leave her here for my own survival.

"There, that, we'll bring her with that." I said while pointing at the wheeled stretcher in the corner of the operating theater.

"No..."

"No?"

"We won't get out bringing her, I'm sorry for asking about it..." Eric says.

"What?! We're not going to leave her here."

"We'll die man! Damn it." Eric says with a bitter look, frustrated and devastated.

It took a lot in my mind to convince myself that we won't escape this place with a dead body on our backs, especially since the car mechanics shop down there is filled with workers.

"Fine..."

Eric lets go of Sarah, stands up and walked out the door with his head hung and a gloomy atmosphere around him.

While in the stairwell, we heard sounds of wheels rolling, they're probably delivering another patient upstairs, so we hid behind the door until the delivery team passed us.

"Door's all locked..." Eric commented looking at the pulled down storefront gates. It's shady illegal work after all, you can't deliver a body in broad daylight, of course they're closed.

"I took manager's phone with me." I told Eric as I pulled the phone out.

"Manager's dead!" Loud announcement from upstairs, delivery team noticed.

"Shit, move first." I dragged Eric by the wrist with me to the back of a tire rack shelf while the other workers hurry upstairs.

"They'll be finding us!" Eric says panicking.

A truck was going to move outside, so the storefront gates behind it was slowly lifted.

"There!" I pointed.

"There's no cover! There's people outside that will catch us."

Looking at the truck that was going to reverse out the shop, it seems the lock on the cargo bed wasn't intact.

"Lucky us, let's go."

"Wait!"

I didn't wait for a second opinion from Eric, we didn't have time, I dragged him by the wrist and sprinted frantically towards the back of the truck, and snuck on top of it with Eric.

"What are you doing?" Eric asks once we're both inside the cargo bed and I closed the door behind.

"Escaping. Just walking out would've been too conspicuous."

Suddenly, the crisp sound of the door of the cargo bed being locked can be heard.

"We're trapped man!" Eric reprimands me.

"I-I uh...maybe this leads somewhere we can escape easier."

After that statement of mine, Eric gave me an exasperated look and pointed to the contents of the truck's cargo bed.

It was about 10 people just lying unconscious, all with the weird earpiece on them. Oh...
