Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: 20 Gold Coins per Zombie

Lin Fan walked towards the marketplace with Lilian. At this time, a large number of warriors clad in leather armor and wielding stone swords had gathered outside.

Just like the residents of Blue Star, the original inhabitants of the Minecraft world also coveted the rewards of the Nine-Story Monster Tower.

Lilian explained that the people coming to the Monster Tower today weren't just from the nearby fishing village; there were also people from other villages.

Every year around this time, many people would travel great distances just to try and claim some valuable loot from the Nine-Story Monster Tower. Among them, there were quite a few powerful figures.

Right now, Lin Fan could see many wealthy individuals strolling through the market, clad in full diamond armor.

"Tsk, when will I ever be able to wear diamond armor?" Lin Fan muttered enviously.

Lilian rolled her eyes at him.

"The diamond armor they're wearing was probably obtained a long time ago. Nowadays, diamond ore is extremely difficult to mine. A few hundred years ago, it was much easier to find, but the drop rate now is nothing like it used to be," Lilian said with a sigh.

Hearing this, Lin Fan understood.

Back in his previous life, when he played Minecraft, diamonds were rare but not impossible to find—if you mined for half an hour, you could usually find one or two.

But in this world, Lin Fan had been mining for several days without finding a single diamond. With such a ridiculous drop rate, how could he not realize how rare they were?

"Sigh, I'm still way too poor," Lin Fan lamented.

If any Blue Star residents had overheard him, they would have been absolutely furious.

A guy earning nearly 100,000 gold coins per day was calling himself poor?

If he was considered poor, then what were they?

Lin Fan and Lilian wandered around the market for a while. The marketplace was bustling with people, most of them there to buy supplies.

Lin Fan found a wandering trader and spent 2,000 gold coins on 10 wheat loaves before heading east with Lilian.

Wheat bread was far more expensive than tools like stone hoes and stone pickaxes, with a single loaf costing 200 gold coins.

Even for Lin Fan, this was an exorbitant price, let alone for anyone else.

That's why he usually didn't buy food—he simply couldn't afford it.

The Nine-Story Monster Tower wasn't too far from the market, and before long, Lin Fan and Lilian arrived at their destination.

It was nothing like Lin Fan had imagined. Instead of looking like an ancient ruin, the entire Monster Tower was built from stone bricks and towered into the sky. Each floor was about ten blocks high, and the whole structure stretched almost a hundred blocks into the air.

As for its width, it was even more astonishing. Standing at the entrance, Lin Fan looked in both directions but couldn't see the edges. He couldn't even begin to imagine how massive this structure truly was.

"This whole place isn't full of monsters, is it?" Lin Fan asked, taking in the sheer size of the Monster Tower.

If the interior was packed with monster spawners, there could easily be tens of thousands of creatures inside.

Seeing Lin Fan's expression, Lilian couldn't help but chuckle.

"Are you just now starting to get scared? Let me tell you, each floor has 108 rooms, and every room has four monster spawners. It's way more dangerous than you think," she said with a mischievous smile.

"That terrifying?" Lin Fan feigned fear to play along with her.

Lilian, seeing his reaction, became even more amused.

"Of course! Come on, I'll take you inside for a look."

With that, Lilian grabbed Lin Fan's hand and led him into the Nine-Story Monster Tower.

The interior of the Nine-Story Monster Tower was vastly different from its exterior.

From the outside, it looked like a grand and imposing building, but inside, the entire aesthetic resembled a prison.

The main hall was covered in mossy stone, making it nearly indistinguishable from a dungeon. The surface of the stone was damp and slippery, adding a sense of humidity to the air.

After only a few steps inside, a zombie wearing enchanted iron armor staggered toward Lin Fan. It let out a hoarse growl, as if all its hatred was focused solely on him.

Before the zombie could even get close, Lilian swiftly drew her iron sword and intercepted it. The zombie, eyes glowing red, charged forward relentlessly, but within moments, Lilian cut it down with a few precise strikes.

[Gold Coins +20]

Before Lin Fan could even praise Lilian, a notification appeared before his eyes. He was stunned to discover that killing a zombie inside the Nine-Story Monster Tower awarded 20 gold coins.

This shocked him.

After all, zombies outside the Monster Tower only rewarded 5 gold coins each. The difference was four times as much!

Seeing Lin Fan's surprised expression, Lilian chuckled.

"This is one of the unique features of the Nine-Story Monster Tower. On the first floor, each monster gives 20 gold coins. On the second floor, they give 40 gold coins. On the third floor, it's 60 gold coins."

"The higher the floor, the more gold coins you get per kill. That's why the Nine-Story Monster Tower is considered a great place to earn money."

"This is also why, despite its dangers, so many people risk their lives to enter every year," Lilian explained.

Hearing this, Lin Fan's excitement grew.

At the same time, he also felt a sense of unease.

With greater rewards always came greater risks.

If the gold per kill increased with each floor, then the danger level would undoubtedly rise as well.

Lin Fan and Lilian carefully stepped across the mossy stone floor, arriving before an iron door.

Lin Fan took a deep breath, pressed the button beside the door, and stepped inside.

The room was built from cobblestone and contained four zombie spawners. Twelve zombies were already wandering aimlessly inside.

The moment Lin Fan opened the door, all twelve zombies simultaneously turned to face him.

It was as if they had suddenly locked onto a target—one after another, they raised their decayed arms and lunged at Lin Fan.

Realizing the danger, Lin Fan quickly reached into his backpack and pulled out his iron sword, readying himself for battle.

Lilian, too, dropped her playful attitude. She took out her iron sword and stood back-to-back with Lin Fan, preparing to fight.

The zombies swarmed toward Lin Fan, their grotesque forms clawing at him.

However, Lin Fan was fast—far too fast for them.

Instead of facing them head-on, he maneuvered skillfully, kiting them back and forth. He would strike one zombie, then another, constantly keeping them at bay.

Within moments, he had reduced all of their health to below 20 HP.

Lilian was doing the same, but with a different approach.

Unlike Lin Fan, she carefully calculated each zombie's remaining health. When a zombie had only 5 HP left, she would kick it toward Lin Fan, allowing him to land the final blow.

Lin Fan had no idea why Lilian was doing this.

But since she was willingly handing him the kills, he wasn't going to complain.

Within just a few minutes, Lin Fan had slain every zombie in the room.

After clearing this single room, he had earned 240 gold coins—far faster than farming monsters outside!

With the zombies dead, Lin Fan sealed off the four spawners using torches and then turned his attention to the reward chest in the center of the room.
