Chapter 22 - chapter 22

I stared at my ceiling, a goofy smile on my face as I hugged a throw pillow.

The events of last night replaying in my head.

I kissed him

I kissed him

Well, technically it wasn't a kiss but still....

"Ugggh...." I was interrupted by a loud groan followed by Sid barging into my room, a water bottle in her hand.

" I'm never drinking again..." She deadpanned looking at me accusingly.

" What?" I say.

" Why didn't you stop me. You... You obviously have done stuff like this before you knew I was gonna wake up feeling like a bull fight took place on my head.." she stalked over, picking up a book from my table.

" You're evil." She finished, smacking the book on my leg. I just grinned, yanking the book from her hand and standing up to get her an Advil.

" Says the girl who was the wildest at the party. You were on a roll." I told her.

" I was, wasn't I. " She smirked proudly.

" Are you okay?." I asked handing the pills to her.

" Do I look okay?" She says gulping it and flinging the bottle across the room.

" You look terrible."

" Exactly. I feel worse." She sighed.

" On the bright side, you went to your first highschool party. " I smiled.

" Yeah, it was kinda.... Fun. How on earth do they have a sound prof dorm though? " Sid asked.

" No idea. "

" What happened to Tyler by the way.? "

" He was whisked away by pookie bear. " I told her.

" That bastard! He had the most fun. " She said and we both laughed.

" And you? " She asks.

" Me? What about me? " I blurted out.

She narrowed her eyes at me.

Should I tell her?

She can read me like a fucking book. I'm sure she'll find out anyway.

" You were with Xavier weren't you. " She casually spoke.

Ugggh!

" I kissed him."

She suddenly turned to me eyes wide as saucers.

" You did what?!" She says followed by her highest pitched scream yet.

" Tell me everything!"

 ***

I told her about everything. Including the strange red eyed students.

"I don't know, Coco, I've never noticed that. The seniors may be a little... scary but—"

" So you agree with me, they're creepy!" I cut in.

" I never said that. Okay, say you're right—"

" I am."

" Whatever. Say, the seniors have red eyes —"

" Not just the seniors... even juniors, I've seen a few of our mates with it." I cut in for the third time causing Sid to glare at me.

" Sorry."

" Okay, if they all did. What possible explanation do you have for it?" She asks.

" Good question. I think....they are all part of.... some secret cult!" I said, sounding ridiculous even to myself.

" That's.... that's..... very possible!" Sid agreed.

" Wait what?"

"You might be onto something ." She shrugged,

I sighed.

This is stupid.

" Have you tried asking Nate?" Sid says and my mind immediately replays our weird heated moment last night.

" Ugggh."

" And I thought I was the weird one." She said.

" Wait.... you don't believe me?"

" I do..... kinda?"

" Oh come on, you believe in magic and fairies but you don't believe this."

" That's a whole different situation. Fairytales are like.... amazing historical stories." She said with a dreamy smile.

" But this...is just kinda..sorta.."

" Stupid?" I asked.

" Ludicrous."

Ouch.

I couldn't ask Nate. I haven't seen his eyes turn red, he's probably not in the cult. Or what if he was but is just really good at hiding it?

What if I get into some real bad shit by probing too much?

"It hurts.." Sid groaned pulling on her hair.

I laughed.

" Shut up.."

 *********

Scanning the surroundings with my eyes for the hundredth time this morning, I pursed my lips. He probably would just see me during recess.

How was this going to work? If he wants to make his ex jealous then we have to actually be seen together, right?

I felt I twinge of...hurt that he's using me but I was excited.

How is he going to react after what happened yesterday?

Oh my god.

Is he going to kiss me? I mean eventually we might but is it going to be today.

I felt my stomach churn with anticipation and probably butterflies as my thoughts drifted back to after the party on Saturday.

I smiled at Sid who was blabbing about something as usual,

".... I am sick and tired of Mona and her I-know-it-all attitude, like nobody cares.... girl why are you smiling at me like that?"

" Nothing." I answered.

We reached the servers.

" A boiled egg." Sid said.

" And?" The lady asks sid shook her head. She took her plate from the lady it was my turn.

" Two egg sandwiches please."

" And a box of fruit juice." I heard a husky voice beside me, whipped my head to the side and I was met with his brown orbs.

" I don't want a juice box, thank you." I say trying my best to not turn to mush as he stared at me intently.

" I want you healthy, babe, it has lots of vitamins." He insisted, only breaking eye contact when he had to collect my tray from the server.

" Shall we." He says nudging me to move, gently.

" Give me my tray, Xavier. I have hands." I whispered.

" No." He simply said.

We reached our table and he dropped the tray gently.

" Hey Xavier." Sid, who I had completely forgotten was with us, spoke.

" Hmm." He nodded to her.

"Thanks for..... Carrying my food for me. You can go now. " I told him.

" Sit." He says.

Yeah, I was gonna.

I rolled my eyes and sat.

" Happy?" I forced a smile.

" Hmmm." He answers joining the three of us.

What?!

I quickly became aware of the whole cafeteria staring at us, whispers, glares and amused faces all directed at me.

Hmmm.

" Eat." Xavier's voice came and I turned back to see him raising the fork to my mouth.

" What the hell?" I moved back.

" Oh don't be shy, sweetheart.... Open up." He said with a smirk bringing it closer.

He narrowed his gaze at me a bit as if silently reminding me to play along.

Right.

I opened my mouth and ate earning a few gasps from students, like seriously, don't they have anything better to do?

Deciding to give everyone something to talk about,

" Mmmm...so delicious, thank you, boo." I smiled sweetly, his hands clenched around the fork and his eyes got darker.

" Um..I think I'm gonna go —" Sid started

" No!.... Stay please." I told her she gave me a puzzuled look but sat back.

" I can feed myself Xavier."

" Good. Then eat." He says I nodded starting on the sandwich while he opened the juice box for me.

" So, Xavier...." Sid started

" I...I heard you went to Hawaii last s..s.. summer." He glanced at her briefly and she quickly looked back down in her plate of boiled egg.

"I did." He said, his gaze back on me. At this point I think there's something on my face, why is he staring this much?

" Was...was It fun?" Sid stuttered.

She looks terrified.

"Yeah." He says.

Okay.

I stood up swiftly.

" We need to talk, now" I said to him.

" Let's talk."

" No. Get up." I said walking away from the table.

He followed. When I was sure we were out of Sid's hearing I stopped.

"What's wrong baby?"

" Do not 'baby' me! Why are you being so..... Sid is scared of you." I said.

" Everyone is scared of me." He answers with a straight face.

" Exactly and is that a good thing?" He just shrugs " if we're gonna make.. this work you gotta loosen up around my friends."

" Okay."

" Okay." I say and was about to leave when he pulled me back in, his arm around my waist and the other tucking my hair back his face close to mine I could smell his minty breath.

" Is she watching?" I ask, trying not to think about how his lips would feel against mine.

" No." He says.

No? What's the point of this then if the ex isn't seeing.

He tucked my hair behind my ears.

"Que Linda..." He whispers.

" Is that her name?" I asked.

He chuckled softly, closed his eyes, when he opened them, they were red.

" What.." I started, he suddenly let me go, running his hands through his hair in.... frustration?

" I'll see you at lunch." He says before stalking out swiftly.

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and went back to my seat.
